When the time states 8:30, about 3/4 of the participants show up at 8:00. Now, if we state the start time is 8:00, will the same participants show up at 7:30? THAT is the big question and is up to debate. Your input is important here Page!2

3 Chapter G Senior Director s News Ezra & Marilynn Bostic This is great. We ve got our riding in for January, February and March looks even better. We had our meet and greet with former chapter MI-O members who are now part of our chapter. 25 people showed up and had not only great ice cream, but a chance to meet and talk and build friendships. After that we had 11 bikes take a ride through Fennville and the Dumont Lake area. Thanks to: Howard Stob, Ezra/Marilynn Bostic, Jim Hake, Rodney DeJonge/Dar Koza, Hank Van Kampen, Ken/Kathleen Heibel, Bob/Terese Coffman, Bob/Jan Rosales, Ron Meschke, Curt/Diane Weatherbee, Terry/Bonnie Garvelink, Bob/Jane Ungrey, Patrick Prost, C.J.Schroll, Jeff Altena, Harry/Marcia Emmert and Lance. We also rode to the Amish Cheese Ride by Lakeview. Don Reed drove down from Big Rapids to join Howard, Jim, Pat, Ezra, Marilynn, Rodney and Dar for a super ride with a stop at Turk Lake Inn for lunch. We had a great time at Wingless Weekend in Houghton Lake. Bob/Jane Ungrey, Len/Jan Snyder, Bob/Jan Rosales, Howard Stob, Ezra/Marilynn Bostic, Harry/Marcia Emmert, Rodney DeJonge/Dar Koza, represented our chapter. Because our Chapter s area is so big, we re looking for different places to meet once in a while, like by Kalamazoo, South Haven and Holland that would benefit all of us as members of Chapter G. Got some ideas to meet? Let me know. We hope to see a lot of you at our Anniversary part on March 25. (see page 10) Your CD Ezra Happy St. Patricks s Day and Happy Spring! Hi Everyone. February brought some surprisingly warm days, warm enough to RIDE! And so we did and had fun bragging that we rode in February and January and December and even in November! As soon as the weather turns warm, warm enough to get that bike out on the road, we are getting antsy to RIDE So take a moment to do a little parking lot practice just to get yourself, co-rider, and your bike ready for the street! I just wanted to mention that we met some new to our chapter members at Captain Sundae s! I had a great time meeting those who could make it. I hope that you enjoyed meeting us, and will join us as your schedule allows. So, Welcome to Chapter MI-G. We will be getting our bikes ready to ride soon, so come and get your bike ready and join us at our gatherings, and other events. You are very welcome, Marilynn Page!3

4 Rider Education BOB UNGREY MI-G Rider Ed SALT, PEPPER or BOTH Sitting here thinking about "Spring" and a suggestion for an article about Group Riding! A HOT topic so I'm going to write from my point of view, so please don't read between the lines and think this article is about you in any way, shape or form! We are all different in one way or another. Look around at Chapter G and no two people look alike, act alike or have exactly the same temperament, abilities or hold the same options as anyone else. Here are some thoughts I've come up with regarding Group Riding and then we'll try and put them together. Some like long rides, some don't due to their limitations, health or otherwise. Some like slow riding so they can see what nature has made for us. Some need more potty breaks, too much coffee or didn't eat prior to the ride, has to go somewhere. Destination may be a topic of discussion, where to go, eat, get gas, etc. A lot of hills and curves, depends on what you're riding, bike or trike? Thank you to all of you that have submitted future rides you'd like to partake of, some have never make any suggestions, so we base our rides on your suggestions, not just the Ride Coordinator or Chapter Director. Please let us know where you'd like to go. It may even be an over nighter. There's one in the works. So, lets start with setting up our Group Ride! 1. Where are we going, good start. Meet at... at time... Leader is..., Tail Gunner is Length of time/ride from start to finish. 3. Stops along the way, gas, potty break, places of interest (overlook, lake, cheese shop, bakery, winery) just to name a few. 4. Morning ride, meet for breakfast or eat at home? Same for afternoon ride. 5. If stopping for lunch, have all agree on location, if not eating at the same place, make sure a time is set and a head count done, prior to continuing on our journey. We don't want to leave anyone behind. If for some reason, you'll be departing the ride and returning home, please advise the group so we are aware of you're leaving the group. Page!4

5 Rider Education BOB UNGREY MI-G Rider Ed SALT, PEPPER or BOTH 6. Always line up and stay in the same position for the whole ride. That way whoever is in front and behind knows who that person is. Any one without a CB should/will be in the middle of the pack and can see the hand signals given by the lead bikes. 7. These are the basics only, please read them over. None of us are "Mind" readers so please speak up if there is anything you wish to change, place to stop at, eat so these issues can be agreed upon and everyone will enjoy the Group Ride. These steps should make our journey a lot easier, more organized and be able to plan the outing so everyone can have a great time and look forward to the next outing with the Group. The above article will be reviewed and discussed at our next gathering, so please make notes and we can discuss them then. Thanks and until then Ride Safe and keep warm. 6 More things When does the riding season officially begin? For a long time, it s been April. But we ve had upper 40 s and 50 s in January and February. If you keep your bike in storage, are you missing some great opportunities to ride? Maybe an idea is to store your bike in a ready to ride condition. Worried about salt residue on the road? You can always stop at the local spray wash down the street Speaking about riding, Rodney DeJonge got his Level 4 certificate and patch at Wingless Weekend. He has joined a very special group.
