July 2018 Omaha, Nebraska President's Message I would like to Thank Ken Grigsby and all of our club members who helped with the Skills car show. It was an interesting weather day, but considering the closure of the street in front of the school we had a good turnout. The kids made some very nice 3D printed trophies along with the great trophies that Ken made. Susan and Ed Dellinger did a great job setting up our pancake breakfast at the park in Plattsmouth. The weather was good, and the pavilion was very nice. We had lots of good food and fun games to play if you were so inclined. Thanks to Esther & Dave, Jim, Jill and Katie for the cooking, and Rodney for holding the bowl. It was a fun time and we had 8 A's there plus a few modern. Don Graves has planned a trip on the 8th of July, be sure and check the newsletter for more info. If you have not already signed up be sure and check with Don & Janet. The Norfolk tour is soon approaching, if you plan to go be sure you get your reservations. That's all for now. We are having Root Beer floats before the next meeting from 6:00 to 6:20 so don't be late or you will miss out. See ya at the Meeting, Bob July Tech Talk Now that we are into the driving season, I thought it would be a good time to think back to items we talked about in the past few months. These small tasks will make your driving much more enjoyable and trouble-free. They all needed to be done before this season started. I ll have a printed list for each of you to check off, as you get them done. We ll cover each at this tech session, just in case you are not sure what I m talking about. Good member discussion are always great, because it usually brings up other items we may not have thought much about. If we correct these items, too, that is a sure sign we ll have an even better time enjoying our favorite Fords. Hope to see you at the next regular meeting. Don P.S. Remember the Second Saturday Soirée. Let me know if you have some item we can work over. 1

Upcoming Events July 8 Let s Drive and Eat! - two of our favorite pastimes! We are going to meet up at the Casey s in Crescent at 10AM. After all this rainy, stormy weather, we deserve a beautiful day, right?? Your A is probably just dying to get out and drive! You, too! After a nice ride through the beautiful Iowa countryside, we will stop and have a nice wiener roast, complete with s mores and other goodies. That does mean you will have to bring a little something to contribute. As of this writing, we could still use Baked Beans, a cold drink like Lemonade with cups, or any salad and dessert. Please let us know if you will be joining us and what you will bring (so we can have a well-rounded lunch). Don & Janet Graves ( , janet@omahaneb.org) Gretna parade July 28 Y all come to our one and only parade for the year! We will line up at 9:45AM at the Gretna Middle School, which is on 216th ST across from the American Legion. There is some road work being done on 216th ST, so you are better off to approach from the South. The parade starts at 10:30AM. We will be near the front of the parade, so we shouldn t have too long of a wait. Once we get through the parade, every member who is in the Meadowlark group in the parade is invited to the McKinney s home for lunch. Yum! Do your part and bring a side dish or dessert to share! McKinney s live at S. 216th ST in Gretna. Because of the street repair, we will be approaching from the south. We actually follow each other from the parade, so that shouldn t be too hard. Sign up so you get the latest information on this event! A reminder: It is has been our club policy to NOT throw candy from the cars during a parade. Too dangerous. If you want to give out candy, have some one walk along side to give candy to the kids. NOT A CLUB EVENT: Highway 66 Concourse Classicat Strategic Air Command and Aerospace Museum. Anyone can go see this great show of classic cars among the airplanes. The dates of the show are July Several members will be showing their cars among the planes. Those who are showing cars need to take them to the museum on Wednesday, July 18 by 6PM at the latest. Don t forget to bring your Fire Extinguisher (with a current date tag) and something to keep your car s drips off the floor. 3
Upcoming Events continued Off to Norfolk on August 3-5 We hope you are joining our overnight tour to Norfolk, the home of Johnny Carson. We will be leaving from Menard s in Elkhorn at 10AM on Friday, August 3. The main places we will be visiting are: Elkhorn Valley Museum Ashfall Fossil Bed State Historical Park If you are planning to go, be sure to make your motel reservation for Aug. 3 & 4! New Victorian Inn & Suites, 1001 W. Omaha Ave, in Norfolk (402) The rate is $69.99 per night for either a King size bed or 2 Queens. This includes a deluxe 26 item breakfast bar, free high-speed wireless internet, and cookies & coffee in the lobby. Give the Confirmation # & Meadowlark Model A Car Club when you register Or contact Jim Musel (jim.musel@hmtrucking.com, ) If you have questions or comments, contact Jim Musel (jim.musel@hmtrucking.com, ). Some of the best parts of longer, overnight tours include driving and trouble-shooting together and having a glass of wine or other beverage together as we sit around in the evening. 4
Past Events SKILLS & GRILLES SHOW Report from Ken Grigsby: The night of June 1, 2018 was windy and rainy, but Saturday was a clear sunny day with a lot of wind. With the help of Barney Deden, Ed Dellinger, Charley Earnest, El Gertner, we were able to make the trophies used for the Skills Car Show on June 2, 2018 at Gretna High school. A special thanks to Tom Ross for supplying a lot of the parts used to make the trophies. Thanks to Ed and Susan Dellinger and Jim Musel for picking up the things needed for the show and returning them to the trailer. Also, I appreciate those club members who helped with the show, and also those who drove their Model A s for the show. Because of road construction on 204 th Street, getting to the show was a challenge. We had 47 registered entries, with 12 being high school students. There was a wide assortment of vehicles in attendance, with mature drivers and young drivers displaying their vehicles. More from Esther Miller: The June 2 nd Skills, Grilles, and Grills Show had 47 entries. Eight high school students had 12 of the 47 entries. The weather was hot, but very breezy keeping it tolerable. The club would like to thank Ken Grigsby for heading this project and making the trophies with assistance from Ed Dellinger. Bob & Mary McKinney reached out to the businesses to receive backing for the Sponsor Awards. Katie Musel was a true Meadowlark Junior Assistant helping at the Admission table & handing out the trophies. Club members who contributed their time to this event were: Karen Noodell, Don Noodell, Lee Hendrix, Jim Musel, Ed Dellinger, Susan Dellinger, Barney Deden, Dave Miller, & Esther Miller. And thanks to Jim Musel for the photos. 5
The Model A Regional held in Springfield, Missouri on June 3-8 was lots of fun and we met many new friends enjoying their Model A's. The tours were to Bennet Springs State Park, Womack Mill, Fantastic Caverns, Country Classics, Bass Pro Shop Outdoor World & Aquarium, and Table Rock State Park. The tours averaged about 100 miles each day so everyone could enjoy their rides every day. Lunches were generally provided with the tours so it was easy to join in with friends. The Hubley Races are always fun to watch - lots of competition among the entries. One of the most enjoyable events was the car games. Some new ones were added to get everyone using their talents to win. Good Food Creative trophies and quilts Good car games Good fun! Driving to the meet were Bob & Mary McKinney and Ed & Susan Dellinger. Dave & Esther Miller and the Jim Musel family also brought their cars down. In general, We Had A Great Time. Submitted by Susan Dellinger Thanks to Mary McKinney, Jim Musel, and Dave Miller for the photos. More photos at 6
