Here's a part of the story: At MacEwan University in Edmonton, Chaldeans Mensah said the issue has been "a major political headache" for the premier, but Wednesday's move may give her the chance to get her government's agenda back on track. 3 MacEwan receives $30 million from province for new arts facility President David Atkinson and Board Chair John Day were both interviewed for this story about the province helping to fund our new academic building. Here's a part of the story: "This is truly an investment on Alberta's future," said MacEwan president David Atkinson, adding the university "deeply appreciates" the province's "vote of confidence" in the institution. "The expansion will enhance the arts district and contribute to the transformation of downtown," added Atkinson, noting the new arena is going up on 104th Avenue to the east of MacEwan and the Royal Alberta Museum just north of City Hall. The project will go out to tender early this summer. "We want to move forward; there are a lot of competing pressures," Atkinson said. It's magic! Here's a part of the story: Wednesday, it was Grant MacEwan University's turn for a treat: $30 million, over three years, to help fund MacEwan's long-planned $153-million downtown arts campus. The plan will allow MacEwan to close its Jasper Place and Millwoods sites and consolidate in the downtown core. 4 Illness forces Richard Wagamese to postpone Edmonton reading MacEwan University Book of the Year author, Richard Wagamese had to cancel an event at MacEwan due to illness. Here's a part of the story: Author Richard Wagamese's gala public reading at MacEwan University has been postponed due to unspecified health reasons, it was announced Tuesday. Wagamese's 2012 novel, Indian Horse (Douglas & McIntyre), was selected as the 2013 MacEwan Book of the Year. The British Columbiabased writer was due to appear at the university on March 17 for the reading, which was to include a Q&A with Edmonton author Richard Van Camp. Hancock declined to say which department is holding potential Galleria funding, but it won't necessarily be "this year money" because the project could be two or three years out before big spending is required. "It's like the arena concept - it's exciting but... we're not paying prices that are not competitive. " Hancock said it makes sense for the U of A to expand into downtown even while MacEwan University is consolidating on one campus. "They are very different institutions," said Hancock.
