OFFICE CLOSED Monday 2nd October 2017 Queens Birthday Monday 25th December 2017 to Monday 1st January 2018 Dear Clients Tamborine Mountain Community Care acknowledged 25 years of continuous operation in September. A milestone that all staff, past and present should be very proud of. I have high praise for those community members that had the foresight to set the wheels in motion all those years ago and for recognising that the community was lacking any help for the aged population of the community. Anyone in the community can do their bit to support the organisation by becoming a financial member of TMCCA, all it takes is a minimum $25 donation (tax deductable) to become a life member of the association and in return you can feel good about yourself by contributing to the continued success of the organisation. We held our 25th AGM on the 15th September where the board members were elected. Our new committee is Nigel Waistell President, Lance Cordingley Vice President, Jackie Sherrard Smith Treasurer, John Clem Secretary, Effie Andersen, Wendy Tait, Nicky Carr, Rob Lilystone, Howard Stevens and Neil Bell. Leonie Steinfort, Sonia Wagstaff and Sue Stewart retired from management committee this year and I thank them for volunteering for this role and their support during the time that they have been on the board. Stay Safe, Geoff Marshall COMPETTITION TIME Caption this photo to win an emergency hand torch Tell us your caption for the above image to be in with a chance of winning an emergency LED hand torch which can also be used as a hands free reading light. Call the office, send an or let one of our staff know your caption by 31st October.
Tamborine Mountain Scarecrow Festival TMCCA exhibited at this years scarecrow event held over the weekend of 15th 17th September. There was a great number of fantastic creations spread right across the mountain and each year the festival just gets better and better. Our entry was conceived, designed and built by staff, volunteers and clients from both our Friday Friendship Group and the Gents Group. A great effort which was appreciated by the judges as we won Highly Commended with a prize which was donated by one of the sponsors Munchkin Mayhem. Valued Volunteers When you next see our valued volunteers doing any number of duties including, helping on the bus, driving you to a medical appointment or assisting with delivery of programs to a variety of groups, please ensure that they know they are very much valued. These wonderful people give up their free time to help our community members, they of course get much satisfaction in being there for you, helping you out and doing a good deed but an occasional acknowledgement of that help will I am sure be very much appreciated. Without our volunteers we would struggle to deliver the extent and variety of services that are currently FREE library books We have a selection of reading books available at the centre, many large print versions, for you to borrow. They can be swopped with books of your own or passed on to someone else to read.
Tamborine Mountain Community Care High Tea Fundraiser This year our annual themed high tea was What A Circus. It was wonderful to see so many of you at this event and to see so many of you come along as a circus performer. We were treated to a special event of Otto the Lion with his handler aka Margaret our finance officer. The high tea was served to our guests and was enjoyed by all. Opportunity was also provided for all to have their photos taken in our photo booth. The monies raised through the event was a respectable $902.We have to thank so many of our local businesses that donated prizes for our raffle which helped boost the fundraising effort. Our thanks go to Gaslight Pizza, Apple and Radish, Eagle Heights Bakery, Eagle Heights Butchery, Eagle Heights Food Works, Ian Mac Allan Lawyer, Joseph The Greengrocer, Granny Mac s Fudge, Under the Greenwood Tree, Masala Shanti, Illahie, Florence & Frida, The Vintage Pickle, The Olive Branch, Mitre 10 Hardware, Gourmet Mountain Muffins.

Tamborine Mountain Community Care can now be found on social media, please like and follow us for all the latest news and updates. Check your Water tanks! We have had very little rainfall on the mountain over the past few months so make sure you keep a careful check on your water tank levels. Due to high demand, as people run low, the water supply companies based on the mountain are quoting a delivery time frame of around 10 days. TMCCA FUNDRAISER The attendees of our weekly client support group Friday Friendship the staff and volunteers that deliver the program have been very busy in the past few months putting together a Fun Foods book. The book consists of recipe contributions from each person involved within the group. The recipes are family favourites and have a generous mix of sweet and savoury dishes from across the globe. These books are being sold to raise funds for TMCCA to help supplement the government funding and assist us in continuing to deliver home services. With 28 individual and tantalising recipes, why not purchase a copy for your bookshelf and also a copy for friends and family to enjoy. On sale now at our offices for just $10 each.
M o v i e A f t e r n o o n Wednesday 11th October pm 3.30pm The Worlds Fastest Indian For 25 years in Invercargill at the south end of New Zealand, Burt Munro ( ) has been working on increasing the speed of his motorcycle, a 1920 Indian. He dreams of taking it to the Bonneville Salt Flats to see how fast it will go. By the early 1960s, heart disease threatens his life, so he mortgages his house and takes a boat to Los Angeles, buys an old car, builds a makeshift trailer, gets the Indian through customs, and heads for Utah. Along the way, people he meets are charmed by his open, direct friendliness. If he makes it to Bonneville, will they let an old guy on the flats with makeshift tires, no brakes, and no chute? And will the Indian actually respond? (Run time 2hr) Wednesday 8th November pm 3.30pm Struggling actress Mia (Emma Stone) and aspiring jazz pianist Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) begin a whirlwind romance as they both pursue their dreams in Los Angeles. However, their blossoming relationship is challenged when their careers pull them in different directions. Damien Chazelle (Whiplash) wrote and directed this musical love story, which co-stars John Legend, J.K. Simmons, and Rosemarie DeWitt. (Run time 2hr 8m) La La Land
