3 3 PRESIDENTS' MESSAGE THE SAGA OF JONATHAN HENRY SEAGULL APRIL, 2010 Have you ever wondered about our Puget Sound Chapter's mascot which is so predominately displayed in our logo? Well, let me introduce you. Aa-a-a!! To feel the wind rush through my feathers; to feel the salt air splash upon my face; to sniff the scent of a herring or a salmon; to spot a 'T' about to round a corner... Aa-a-a!! But, I have brought dishonor and disgrace to my family. To most seagulls, EATING is the most important aspect of life. But, here is where we differ. It seems so very special to me to practice my art of flight so that I can better track those unbelievable Model T's... It is this obsession for which, I, Jonathan have become known. Even my name denotes a famous background. Jonathan - for my famous counterpart, Jonathan Livingston Seagull, Henry for the creator of my obsession, Henry Ford, and Seagull for my family which has not yet chosen to disown me as of this reprint. My life, as a bird perched upon the National emblem, was to begin under the pen of Maggie Murray when Randy began the T Oilers News for the Puget Sound Chapter of MTFCA. After all, what insignia could be more appropriate for the Puget Sound area! Only, I became a bit mischievous! While perched upon that National Emblem, I only did what comes natural for seagulls. (We do have a reputation for being dirty birds.) There I stood, having done my duty, until I almost became extinct. Then came the 1973 Totem Tour put on by our chapter. This event gave me the chance to improve my relations, as well as the chapter's, with the National. Mike and Donna McGinnis vouched for my new character and cleaned up my image, and I was then free to wing my way through the activities. About this time, the editor was looking for a reporter, so I applied, having been the assistant at that time anyway. Then I knew my calling (as long as no one knew my real identity.) I could glide with wings spread full, swoop down when a 'T' passed by, and again soar forth to catch the hearsay of the Puget Sounders. During one of the printings of the National award-winning T'Oilers under the helm of the McGinnises, I acquired my namesakes. Now, I was ready for anything. I even stood sedately still and modeled for the top of the totem pole created for the Totem Tour and got to spread my wings and neck to look like flight for another trophy. True, I still have not shed my entire mischievous behavior, but at least I improved my techniques. The program for the coming meeting is right up my alley. Jim Cunningham is going to tell us about poles and cruising timber. What more can a bird as for?! I might just drop by and let a little herring or perhaps a slippery clam tickle your funny bone! In the meantime, always keep your eyes peeled skywards when you attend a Model T function, which includes the next meeting at the Southcenter Sizzler on this coming Saturday, April 17 at 12:00 PM (REMEMBER, IT IS A WEEK EARLY). By the way, having just returned from a flight, I get to report having seen 3 nice road-ready Model T's for sale; I have included the details in this T'Oilers. Another important function coming up is the Monroe Swap Meet on May 15 and 16. It is a fun place to donate a couple of hours and get to help those who need parts as well as to visit with your fellow club members. Sign up at the meeting or call Dwaine or Ray or Jerry and volunteer. Besides, you never can tell when the next seagull overhead just might be me! Your co-presidents, Donna and Harold
4 4 PSC Meeting Bob s Burger & Brew in Marysville, March 27 th, 2010 Co-President, Harold Musolf, called the meeting to order. Thirty two members were present. Jim Young introduced Jerri Eilet as a new member. They just purchased a 1917 Model T Roadster. Jerri was welcomed by our members. Treasurer s Report Ann Musolf reported that things are well, and all members are paid up. Also we have had three recent renewals. Sunshine JoAnne Costa was not present at the meeting but everyone is healthy and doing fine she reported by phone. Joyce Arneson is dealing with a balance problem. It was noted that Ann Musolf and Linnette Engler are doing fine after each had a bout with cancer and Donna McGinnis eye surgery was a success. Events Jerry and Patty Wrolstad reported that the Tulip Run is all planned out and ready to go. Jerry said this is around a 70 mile tour. He also thanked George Grimm for letting us use his place for parking. Jerry said he is taking parts for the Swap meet. There will also be a signup sheet for the booth manning at the next meeting. Several members reported different events that we could attend so they will be listed in the Oiler for reference. Insurance Donna McGinnis stated that we met the National requirement for being insured this year. Stores Dwaine Engler said that you can or call him for orders from the stores. Ford coffee cups are on sale at $6.00 a cup. We are getting some new material for the maintenance of our T s as well. Ray Moore will be printing out copies for the store. Website Larry Mann reported that the website is getting more pictures and other items all the time. Larry has worked hard to keep updating the site. Also the Oilers are posted on the site. Thanks for all your time Larry. Old Business The Valentine Party was a lot of fun and a good time was had by all. New Business Donna reported that the new rosters are out. Please pick them up at the meetings and if you can hand deliver them to members this would help to save on postage. A big applause was given by the group for all the effort and time that Donna put in for making the new rosters. Mike gave a little talk about going to the National Meeting in Mesa, AZ. He brought back some good information for the club and brought back literature from some seminars he attended. Thanks a lot Mike. The meeting was adjourned at 1:15 with a motion from Ann Musolf and a second by Linnette Engler. Door prizes were won by Jim Young, Emma Gibson, Skip Arneson, Dave Howie, George Wood, Harold Mann, Ann Musolf, Mike McGinnis, Patty Wrolstad, Nancy Moore, Harold Musolf, Ann McFee and Walt Berdan. Mike McGinnis won the badge drawing. Mike had his badge so he collected $ Good job Mike.
5 5 Does your shop look like this??? Our club will have a booth at the Swap Meet at the Monroe Fairgrounds on May 15 and 16. You are welcome to sell your parts (10% commission to the club) or bring donations where the club gets the full sale price. Call Ray Moore, Jerry Wrolstad or Dwaine Engler and they will help you sell all those unwanted parts and give you more room. Talk to them about how parts can be gathered for the swap meet. At least one of them will have a truck at the next meeting to collect parts if that works for you. Dwaine will have a sign up sheet with 2hr. spots to run the booth Saturday and Sunday. Ray, Jerry and Dwaine also the some help with the setup on Friday afternoon and teardown on Sunday afternoon. Let them know if you can help Please put a price on all your commission sales! We aren t mind readers for what you consider a fair price and we don t want anyone to be disappointed. Dwaine
6 6 The Third Annual T's Tiptoeing Thru the Tulips Tour happened on April Fools Day. Thankfully, Mother Nature offered a "weather window" in which to make the best of a cold and somewhat rainy day to cruise thru the Skagit Valley tulip fields. Sixteen cars made the journey, including 5 T's, several speedsters and a few later vintage cars of various makes. George Grimm offered his farmstead just west of Island Crossing as a staging area. The focus this year was more on driving our cars and less downtime; the route covered just under 70 miles. Despite the cold, everyone seemed to have a good time as was evident by all of the smiles and joking at each stop, especially the lunch stop at the Royal Fork in Mt. Vernon where we were able to get some feeling back into appendages that had been numbed by the cold. The sun was out on the return trip to George's place, which made that part of the trip especially pleasant. Thanks to all who attended, and thanks again to George Grimm for his hospitality.
