1 I*5?*3811* mum* 2014 Spring Newsletter "A Volunteer Group Supporting Recreation on the Eastern Slopes" *Did you know that it costs roughly $10,000 just to install one outhouse in the backcountry and $1,000 a year to maintain it? Our non-profit volunteer organization raises millions ofdollars to put back into our backcountry, one membership or donation at a time. Alberta Sustainable Resource Development and the Bighorn Backcountry Commitee entrust us with the stewardship ofthe Hummingbird, Eagle Creek and Cut-offForest Recreation areas. We also have an on-going agreement with Parks Canada for the Bighorn Campground. Past Events The 20th Anniversary ofthe FOESA Banquet was a sold out success. Tracy Millar was a crowd favorite and Duane Papke was the saddle winner. We would like to welcome New Directors Tim Reinhart and Sean Connelly. The Wardens at Ponoka Legion April 5th Hosted by Dale andbarb Olsen assisted by FOESA Directors Tom, Larry, Tim and Dale. The event netted FOESA $2, Mane Event Red Deer April 25 to 27th memberships were sold and raised $2795. Thanks to the persons that worked the Mane Event. Members; Murray Hagel and Adair MacDonald. 3 A Letter from the President Ithas been 20 years since that first meeting at Mountaineer Lodge. Do you think that the people at that first meeting would have any idea where the Friends would go in 20 years? We have five campgrounds we look after, a good working relationship with Parks Canada, Big Horn Backcountry Access Management Group and countless other organizations. We have a great volunteer group ofpeople, almost 600 family memberships and alarge number ofpeople and businesses that make financial donations. For the last 20years wehave also had a great bunch of directors who have worked hardto make thefriends what it is today. It is a great organization with a great future.
