2 New Bridge Opens Along the Enoree Passage Palmetto Conservation Foundation (PCF) hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new state-ofthe-art pedestrian bridge across Indian Creek on the Enoree Passage of the Palmetto Trail on September 20, The new 50 ft fiberglass bridge, funded by the Dominion Foundation, protects sensitive wildlife habitats and provides safe passage for hikers and bicyclists traveling through Sumter National Forest between Newberry and Laurens counties. 3 First Suspension Bridge on the Palmetto Trail Complete The 60 ft gap along the Wateree Passage of the Palmetto Trail has been connected with a new suspension bridge! The bridge, funded by SCE&G, allows hikers to continue along the Wateree Passage and eventually access the existing Wateree Bridge. With this new connection, Palmetto Trail goers can traverse the section of passage that was previously impassable during flood season. PCF Trail Coordinators will be working during the upcoming seasons to build the final connection from the new suspension bridge to the existing Wateree bridge that overlooks the Wateree River.

4 PCF Welcomes The Palmetto Conservation Corps On Wednesday, September 21 the first crew of the Palmetto Conservation Corps moved in at the Glendale Outdoor Leadership School. The Corps has had a mix of in classroom and hands on training through their first week of orientation, which concluded with Wilderness First Aid Certifications on Sunday, October 2. The Corps begins training on the Trail at Sassafras Mountain and Croft State Park on October 4 and will continue working on Trail projects across the state during their 5.5 month terms of service. We are beyond thrilled that the Corps has officially hit the ground running and would like to thank all those who made this program possible through support and guidance over the last year and a half!
