After passing the Jessieville High School, look for the Range Work Station on the right side of the highway. Tools: Tools will be provided for those needing them. Work Plan: We plan to work on the section of trail at the west end of Flatside Wilderness. This is about a 1.8 mile one-way hike. Please plan on helping provide trail maintenance in Flatside Wilderness as OMH continues to keep this section of the Ouachita Trail in good hiking condition. Please let Ralph know if you plan to work as soon as possible. Should be back by: early afternoon. Saturday September 22, 2018 Cedar Glades Park (4.5 miles easy - moderate) Hike Leader: Jim/Vanessa Edgar vedgar455@yahoo.com Carpool: Hot Springs Village: 8:30 am at West Gate parking lot (Ride share is $2 or meet at trailhead) Meet At: 9:00 am - trailhead (please see directions below) Directions: Cedar Glades Park in Hot Springs there are 2 trailheads, we will start at the trailhead on Cedar Glades road. In downtown Hot Springs, left on Whittington, right on Cedar street to Cedar Glades road. Stay on Cedar Glades road (do NOT turn on Wildcat road), drive past the entrance to the landfill the next right is the Bull Bayou picnic area which is the trailhead we will be using. There is plenty of parking and a restroom at the picnic area. Details: The trails at the park were built on the former Hot Springs landfill. Even though it is a city park it is located in a forest area with plenty of trees, a couple of creeks and a few nice overlooks. The black loop is the longest trail and winds up and down (no steep climbing) around the county landfill. Come join us for a nice hike in the park. We will be stopping for lunch, let us know (to organize carpools) if you want to join us for lunch. Bring: Water, hiking sticks, hiking boots and snacks.

3 Should be back by: Early afternoon Thursday, September 27, Hot Springs Mountain (6 miles, Moderate) Hike Leader: David Tedrahn (omhhikerdt@gmail.com) Please let the hike leader know via if you plan to join in the hike Carpool: Hot Springs Village: 8:15am at the West Gate (Ride share $2.00) Meet At: Whittington Avenue TH at 8:45 am for a 9am hike start time. Directions: Drive to the north end of Bathhouse Row in Hot Springs and turn west onto Whittington Avenue. Follow Whittington (a boulevard divided by a wide parkway) to the west end, turn left at the Weyerhauser Office and immediately turn left again, heading back east on Whittington. The trail head is a few hundred yards ahead on the right. The street widens just before the TH providing plenty of safe, on-street parking. Hike Details: We will hike up the Mountain Top Trail to the Sunset Trail, a climb of about 450 feet. We will then turn west onto the Sunset Trail and follow it to the top of Magic Mountain. We will then retrace our steps to the Mountain Top Trail and follow it downhill to the south to hook up with the West Mountain Trail. We will hike east on the West Mountain Trail to the lookout where we will take a break before continuing counterclockwise on the West Mountain Trail to the Mountain Top Trail, and then down-hill back to the cars. Total ascent of the hike will be in excess of 1,100 feet and the total length about 6.5 miles. We should return to the TH by 12:30pm. Group lunch options in town after the hike. Bring: Hiking boots or shoes, hiking sticks, trail snacks and water. Saturday, September 29, Hot Springs National Park Trail Maintenance Activity Coordinator: Bill & Christina Lammers (bclammers84@gmail.com) Thursday, October 4, OT Section 8, MM to (8 miles, Moderate) Hike Leader: David Tedrahn (omhhikerdt@gmail.com) Please let the hike leader know via if you plan to join in the hike Carpool: Hot Springs: 7:15am at DeSoto Park (Ride share $7.00). If you

4 are coming from Little Rock or other points north or east of the hike you may meet the group at the OT TH on Highway 9 by prior arrangement with the Hike Leader. Directions: We will caravan from the meeting point at the HSV East Gate, driving east to Highway 9 and then north to the turnoff for Lake Sylvia (about 30 miles, 40 minutes). We will turn west onto AR-324 towards Lake Sylvia and then turn west again onto FR-805/CR-55. We will drive 4 miles/10 minutes to where the OT crosses FR-805. There is limited parking at that TH. Hike Details: We will start hiking at OT MM and hike north and west to MM (FR-94). After reaching FR-94 we will turn around and retrace our steps to the turnoff for Flatside Pinnacle. We will climb to the Pinnacle and have a lunch break. We will then return to the OT and head back east on the OT to where it crosses FR-805/CR-55. We will then turn off the OT and follow the forest road back to the original TH and our vehicles. There are two short water crossings at the very start of the hike, one with a foot bridge and one rock-hopping. If we have a typical dry September these will not be an issue. If you are working on completing the whole of the OT this hike will add 4 miles to your goal. For anyone else this is simply a really nice hike with some outstanding views. Expected Completion: 1:30 pm to the vehicles at the forest road TH and 2:30 pm to the meeting point near the HSV East Gate. Bring: Hiking boots or shoes, hiking sticks, trail snacks, lunch, and plenty of water. Saturday, October 6, LOViT (6 miles, Moderate) Hike Leader: Phil Simpson (philhappy@suddenlink.net) Thursday, October 11, LOViT (10 miles, Difficult) Hike Leader: Wally Marroy (wallyam@cablelynx.com) Saturday, October 13, Hot Springs Greenway Trail (5 miles, Easy) Hike Leader: Linda Branim liluze@aol.com Carpool: Hot Springs Village: 8:30 am at West Gate/Century 21 parking lot (Ride share is $2.00) Meet At: 9:00 am Transportation Center (downtown Hot Springs/Farmer's Market) near the corner of Broadway St and Olive St

5 Details: This is an easy urban hike which meanders alongside Hot Springs Creek from Transportation Plaza to Golf Links Road (possibly a bit further depending upon completion of latest construction). Restrooms and water fountain are available at the Depot. Ambrosia Bakery is nearby for either breakfast or lunch following the hike as well as numerous other downtown restaurants. Per map, trail to Golf Links Road is listed as 2.5 miles so expect the hike to be approximately 5 miles in length. Nice walk for what we hope will be a beautiful Autumn day. Bring: water, walking shoes (trail is paved so boots are not necessary) Should be back by: noon Thursday, October 18, Flatside Trail Maintenance Coordinator: Ralph Butler (rgbutler39@yahoo.com) Saturday, October 20, Hike To Breakfast (5 miles, Moderate) Hike Leader: Becky Gifford (rjgiffordar@gmail.com) Thursday, October 25, Richland Creek (6 miles, Moderate) Hike Leader: David Blankenship (dbblank@sbcglobal.net) Saturday, October 27, Hunts Loop & Halloweenie Roast (4.3 miles, Moderate) Hike Leader: Theresa Keyser (theresadeano@yahoo.com) Thursday, November 1, OT Section 8 (10.1 miles, Difficult) Hike Leader: Joy Linker (joyfullymovin@gmail.com) Saturday, November 3, Cane Creek State Park (5 miles, Easy) Hike Leader: Marilyn Weih (marilynweih@gmail.com)
