Several factors linked to the improvement are more highly visible Footbeat Officers and the city wide Park Smart program. Tips to discourage break-ins: Hide your valuables before you arrive at your destination. Lock valuables, including electronics, in the truck out of site. Take valuables with you. Take your wallet, phone, purse, etc. with you and don t leave them visible in the car. Lock your vehicle and take the keys with you. Don t leave vehicles running unattended. 3 Officers of the Month Officer Tiffany Hang & Officer Michael Hill Meet the Richmond District School Resource Officers, Officer Hang and Officer Hill! Officer Hang has been with the department for 3.5 years and has worked at Northern, Bayview, and Richmond Stations. In her free time she likes to cook and go camping. Officer Hill has been with the department for 3 years and has worked at Southern, Bayview, and Richmond Stations. In his free time he enjoys playing sports and also coaches a youth football team. 3

4 Citizen of the month Paulette lewis Meet our Citizen of the Month! Paulette is the manager of the Beach Chalet Restaurant, located on Great Highway near Ocean Beach at the western edge of the district. A San Francisco native, Paulette has worked in the restaurant industry for many years and even ran her own restaurant. She enjoys meeting the tourists that come to the city to visit and eat at the restaurant everyday. The view from work isn't bad either. 4

5 Events in the Richmond District This Week Title: Clement Street Farmers Market Date: 09/09/2018 Time: hrs Location: Clement Street between 2 nd Avenue and 4 th Avenue Title: Golden Gate Park Band Series Date: 09/09/2018 Time: hrs Location: Golden Gate Park- Music Concourse Bandshell Details: This event is a weekly two hour concert by the Golden Gate Park Band. Classical Music, Marches, Opera Selections, Jazz, and more will be featured during the concerts. Title: Caesar Maximus Play Date: 09/06/ /09/2018 Time: hrs Location: Golden Gate Park Music Concourse Details: This is a site specific performance of an original play entitled Caesar Maximus. The performance will take place throughout the Music Concourse, in the Bandshell, and in the North Tunnel under JFK Drive. This is a ticketed event. Title: Autumn Moon Festival Date: 09/08/2018 Time: Location: Clement Street (Between 5 th & 8 th Avenue), 6 th & 7 th Avenue (Between Cornwall & Geary Blvd) Details: This Holiday is a time to reflect on the bounty of the summer harvest, the fullness of the moon, and the myth of the immortal moon Goddess, Chang-O, who lives in the moon. The Moon Festival is often considered a Chinese Thanksgiving because of its celebration of gratitude and inclusion of abundant food including the popular moon cake. The Autumn Moon Festival will be a fun, family-friendly event where attendees will 5 have a taste of the cultural diversity of the Richmond District.

8 DEFINITION OF SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY Suspicious activity is any observed behavior that could indicate a crime-related incident has been committed, or about to be committed. Unusual items or situations: A vehicle is parked in an odd location, a package/luggage is left unattended, a window/ door is open that is usually closed, or other out-of-the-ordinary situations occur. Examples of Suspicious Activity: An individual peering into vehicles, to try and locate any valuables left unattended. An individual trying door handles to vehicles, and/or residences to gain access to the vehicle and/or residence. An individual checking front doors of residences to locate any unattended packages, or individuals following delivery trucks to see where the truck is dropping off packages. IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING DEFINITIONS OF CRIME Robbery Robbery is the taking of property from another by using force or by using fear. Assault An assault is an unlawful attempt, coupled with the present ability, to commit a violent injury on another person. Battery- (Misdemeanor battery) is any willful and unlawful touching of another. (Felony battery) is the use of force or violence upon the person of another that causes serious bodily in jury. **Assault is when a person swings their arm and battery is when that arm makes contact with another person. ** Aggravated Assault Assault upon another person with a deadly weapon or instrument other than a firearm or by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury. Burglary The intent upon entry into a property to commit grand theft, petty theft, or any felony. 8

10 SAN FRANCISCO POLICE DEPARTMENT INCIDENTS IN THE RICHMOND DISTRICT THIS WEEK Apartment Fire 08/31/18 16:48 Hours 48th Ave/ Cabrillo St Officers responded to a structure fire at an apartment building, and found residents trapped inside the building. Officers immediately began evacuating the building. Fire arrived and assisted in the evacuation. One resident and an Officer sustain injury during the evacuation. The fire was deemed not suspicious in nature. Driving Under the Influence, Arrest 08/31/ Hours Geary Blvd/ St Josephs Ave Officers observed a vehicle speeding, and run a stop light. Officers conducted a traffic stop and suspected the subject was under the influence of alcohol based on established physical signs of intoxication. Officers conducted Field Sobriety Tests, which the subject failed. The passenger of the vehicle became belligerent and combative and was placed under arrest. The driver was placed under arrest and booked at County Jail One on the following charges: Driving Under the Influence, Reckless Driving, Resisting Arrest, Red Light Violation, Speeding. The passenger was arrested and booked at Richmond Station on the following charges: Drunk in Public. 10
