5 JOHN SNELL It is with great sadness that we report the death of John. He passed away in August and his funeral was held in Cyprus on 24th. He served as Chairman for many years, generously giving his time, knowledge and the use of his office facilities at E J Snell & Sons. He even donated and paid the initial running costs of an old estate car to transport the club banners, gazebo etc. In his role as Chairman he had the support of his wife, Claudine and many of us will remember the fantastic club events they organised at their home. Over the years, he had a number of cars latterly including a Rolls Royce Silver Spirit, Porsche Boxster and a Lotus Elan. Not without the occasional problem older cars give us, he had a rather different problem with the Lotus on a trip to Brittany to visit our A R S A club friends. Generous as ever, he had sausages and bacon in the boot, a gift for his hosts. Unfortunately, the lock broke and the meat travelled around Brittany, then came back to Harracott where he had to drill his way in before the gifts crawled out on their own! He had a wicked sense of humour and I have fond recollections of him at club events, sitting outside his camper van entertaining us with his stories. When he eventually sold his business, he and Claudine retired to Cyprus where they were able to enjoy time together despite soon being diagnosed with a terminal illness. Our thoughts are with Claudine at this sad time.

6 Chairman's Ramblings Sad news to start with, John Snell a very active member and previous Chairman for a long time has recently passed away. John and Claudine moved to Cyprus a few years ago but still followed the Club activity very closely. Alex and John Lain met up with Claudine in Cyprus, and whilst on holiday, and passed on a small token of the Club's appreciation for all they have both done for the Club over the years. What a day at the Castle Combe Autumn Classic, yes the weather started off somewhat wet but it eventually cleared and any rate we had the Club gazebo set up at the track side! The wet weather certainly made the racing entertaining and let's just say that of the 3 Morgan SLRs worldwide, only 2 can now turn a wheel! The Winter Warmer Sunday breakfast are well under way, with details in the mag. Thanks Heather for your organisation. Places for the Pannier Market Show are filling up fast (around 50 cars booked in already) so if you wish to go pse contact Glen Merritt very soon! Donations for the tombola in aid of the Calvert Trust would be appreciated and can be brought along on the day. The annual slot car racing evening, hosted by the Exmoor Slot Car Racing Club, is set for Saturday 17 th November at Swimbridge Village Hall from 1830, there will be tea/coffee etc available with food (and alcohol) being on a bring and share basis. Its a great event, brings out the little boy/girl in everyone and it is surprising just how competitive it gets! There are also prizes this year so you have to be innit to winnit. Alex Lain has organised the post Christmas bash, details in the mag and the March AGM is already scheduled for Swimbridge Village Hall with lunch laid on by outside caterers details to follow. I started with sad news so will end on a happy note. John and Anne (now Whitehead) both met through out Club and were married in late September. A few of us were lucky enough to share their celebrations at the Carlton Hotel in Ilfracombe. On behalf of the Club they were presented with a gift voucher, John thought it would be ideal to buy 20/50 oil for his Herald and Anne had visions of new wall paper for the lounge...let's wait and see what happens! So John now has a racy little number and Anne now has an old classic with creaking suspension and that drips on the drive (John, beers on me at the next Committee meeting)!

7 Club Logo Mugs and Pin Badges We have had some mugs and coasters printed, they are available from the Chairman via . They are 5 pet set and can be collected from a show or posted for extra cost. We also have our new pin badges. Made out of metal with an enamelled face displaying our logo. A nice high quality item, priced at 5 plus postage or collection from a show. 8 CLUB T SHIRTS AND FLEECES ETC A local company has agreed to produce, pack and post T shirts, Fleeces and caps etc with the Club logo on. This saves Committee members having to organise it and paying up front out of their own pockets. 9 Dunster Castle The annual run to Dunster Castle is organised by Peter Westaway one of our Events Managers. Takes the winding roads from Blackmoor Gate through Lynton and Lynmouth to the National Trust castle near Minehead. It is run on two days so there is enough room for everyone to park in front of the castle.

10 Calendar Competition We are going to be running a competition for an NDSCCC 2019 Calender. We want you to send in the best pictures of your pride and joy for a chance to be on it. Your pictures will have to be high quality. Send them to the Editor or Chairman. Here's an RX7 I got at Goodwood...
