Bude Motor Club Show 12 of us made the annual trip to the Bude Motor Club show on May 14 th. It really was a case of everything from a Minor to a Murcielago! We all met up at Rownhams with a second stop at Bideford and drove down in convoy. It gave us the chance to use our new NDSCCC feather flags as well. Its always a nice drive down the Atlantic Highway and the weather was kind as well. Unfortunately Rob Merrit suffered a clutch failure in his Renault 5 GT Turbo and ended up limping home after the event keeping gear changes to a minimum...all fixed now though, the perks of being a full time mechanic, but its not that often you find shattered clutch pressure plate spring fingers!

Chairman's Ramblings Just writing this after a very busy weekend at the South Molton show, OK so the weather threw a few challenges our way on the Sunday and the club gazebo certainly proved its worth! We had a great club turnout with around 24 club cars on the Saturday and about 17 on the Sunday, so well done those who laughed in the face of the weather forecasters! The club BBQ was also in full use on both days and special thanks must go to Glen, Heather, Kate and Petrina for keeping us all fed and watered. The Big Sheep is our next show (11 June) with over 55 cars booked in and then Ilfracombe (18 June) with around 40 cars booked. Both events will have the club Gazebo and the kettle on but no BBQ. Its great that our club can put out such a varied mix of cars at these events. A number of visitors at the recent shows have congratulated us and said how much nicer it is to see such variation rather than the single marque shows where the only variation is the colour of the MGs, Jags, TRs etc. Enough for now, need to sort the brakes out on the Green Beast to be seen at a show near you SOON! (I hope)

Readers Contributions This write up was sent in by Malcolm Stone who attended the Royal Windsor Jaguar festival in early May. Last weekend, in our XJS, we attended the Royal Windsor Jaguar Festival in aid of the Prince's Trust. We were one of 1000 other Jaguars. We were parked on the Royal Mile, where we stayed all day. 250 "chosen" Jaguars, ranging from the very first Swallow 1929, all through the various models, right up to the modern day XKSS 2017, were parked in another area and at a given time the whole lot drove up through the Royal Mile, into Windsor itself, and back into the quadrangle in Windsor Castle. All these cars had been vetted and "searched by detectors and sniffer dogs" beforehand. The Royal presence was Prince Edward, who is now the Chairman of the Trust. There were so many people at the event (you could walk on their heads up the Royal Mile), that we could not get near enough to see any presentations. It was a full weekend of events, starting with a welcome glass of champagne and nibbles in the Castle, dinner in the Castle (too expensive for us) and jazz in the cricket pavilion the Sunday evening. We opted for a gala buffet (there were two such events) in our hotel with 300 attending. There were no long speeches, just a thank you from the Trust and as there were quite a lot of Europeans present there was a short speech from them. Luckily the weather was kind, and we had a good run up and back. It was an experience to remember, never seen so many Jaguars in one place. Malcolm Stone. Malcolm's XJS at the show Jag's as far as the eye can see

South Molton Vintage Rally We arrived early Saturday morning in my van with the marquee and relevant club regalia and set it up ready for the members when they arrived. When a few members started arriving we promptly fired up the stove to get the bacon butties and sausage sandwiches on the go. When everyone had stopped turning up we had over 20 members and took up about a third of the show field on the Saturday! We left the marquee up over night and the show resumed the next day. Although there was a bit of rain in the morning the afternoon was fantastic weather and a perfect end to the weekend. Although personally I was feeling a bit under the weather there was a real community spirit from the club and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Brittany Visit 2017 Our annual exchange with our friends from the A.R.S.A club of Brittany took place 4 th 8th May and a great time was had by everyone who took part, both French and English. Things did not run smoothly in the organisation this year: There was a mix up with dates and most of our club members who had enjoyed our previous exchanges were unable to join in The host organiser was hospitalised and unable to organise the program of events One of our participants had a vehicle problem the day before we were due to sail However, undeterred we carried on and everything went well: It was looking as if John and I would be the only takers this year but Heather, Jeff and Sandra signed up Steve, from the A R S A club was discharged from hospital and was well enough to join in with events, even organising part of the weekends activities and, along with wife Wendy, hosting Heather. Jeff had intended bringing his Vauxhall but last minute problems meant he and Sandra came in their Land Rover (normally used for off-roading). His was still the oldest vehicle and he was pleased he brought it because he felt he would never have kept up on the drives in the Vauxhall. Those who have never taken part in such an event are missing a treat. Our hosts met us at Roscoff and settled us in during the morning and in the afternoon we had a drive through the beautiful scenery on quiet roads to see some Bretton Saints. These were 70 fantastic works of art each about 10 tall, carved out of the local granite sited on top of a hill with fantastic views.

On Saturday we were joined with a few more members of their club for a scenic drive through the national park to Trevarez, a beautiful house which the English bombed towards the end of the second world war. The grounds were full of beautiful Rhododendron and Azaleas. Sunday saw even more French cars join us for another beautiful drive and visits to places of interest plus a really good lunch at a lakeside restaurant. Next year we will be welcoming the A R S A members. I would encourage you to join in the fun.
