1 news update September 2018 (No.7/18) Our Autumn event took place on September 10 th to the 13 th, based at The Metropole Hotel in Llandrindod Wells, Powys. After a damp start on the first day we were favoured with good weather for our outings, all very ably organised by Jerry & Miriam Targett and by Tony & Ros Hartnell. Reserved parking and a selection of the cars on the event. Miriam s route instructions took us through some spectacular Welsh scenery the first day to our destination in Hay on Wye, with a stop en-route at Erwood Station Gallery an art gallery displayed in some restored ancient railway carriages. Day two took us through the spectacular Elan Valley, heading for our destination at Devil s Bridge for a trip on the Vale of Rheidol Railway. The route involved some long climbs, which all of the cars managed admirably. Cresting the longest climb the Radfords Tigress and the Cooke s Mk I saloon.

2 The Kettels in their Mk II Carlton DH Coupe were four up as was Mike Heins in his Mk I Speed Model. Proving that the EMGS is a Broad Church Christine Cooper crests the summit in her Austin Seven Chummy.

Another enjoyable EMGS event, with 20 couples taking part, was favoured with good weather, great company and took us through some fantastic scenery. Our thanks go to the organisers.

5 overseas news One of our overseas Associate Members, Matt Spoljarevic from Queensland is building a very accurate Tool Room copy of Cecil Kimber s trials car, a.k.a. Old Number One, and he is currently visiting England in order to take precise measurements and details from the original car which is in the museum at Gaydon. So keen is he to ensure absolute accuracy that he has made a 3-D print of the handbrake bracket, from a dimensioned drawing that your Scribe sent him, and this will be used as a buck for a duraluminium casting to be made. Here s the 3-D printed bracket : A couple of pictures of his rolling chassis notice the full scale image of the original car on the wall. Matt will be chasing some necessary but elusive components needed for the build whilst in England, especially a front brake cross-bar and chassis mounting brackets. If you have spares on your shelf, please let me know. We will be meeting Matt, his wife and son in Oxford on October 3 rd, to give them a walking tour around some of the iconic Morris Garages sites in the city.

6 Meanwhile, from New Zealand, Kevin Atkinson sent us a couple of work in progress pictures of the Mk I 18/80 that he is restoring. The chassis is virtually ready in this shot and here the engine is trial-fitted, while the new body tub stands in the background.

7 2019 Sunday January 6 th 2019 The Early M.G. Society A.G.M will be held at The Lambert Arms Hotel, London Road (A40, near M40 Junct. 6), Aston Rowant, Nr. Watlington, OX49 5SB. By popular demand, our guest speaker will be Tom Spats Langham, the raconteur and banjo player provided that there is no conflict with his commitments as a professional musician. For those travelling long distances, a special deal has been arranged for an overnight stay including dinner at the hotel on January 5 th. The bed & breakfast tariff for a single room is 130 and for a double room 150, but these figures include 25 per person allowance for dinner on Saturday night. Tea and coffee with biscuits will be available prior to the meeting, followed by Sunday lunch and then tea & cakes before departure.
