1 Newsletter - December 2016 View this in your browser President's News Dear Members, Friends, Supporters We would like to extend our greetings to you and your family as you prepare to celebrate this Christmas and the New Year. Let us reflect on our many blessings, family, friends. and those who are less fortunate than we are, as well as those artists that are no longer with us. We are proud of our achievements for 2016 which includes a fully functioning website, quarterly newsletter, increase in membership, colour brochure and a fabulous Launch Party in Alice Springs. We have a new dynamic Board including Indigenous artist representatives Helen McCarthy and Jeremy Donovan. The Board is thankful for your contribution and your continued support. Congratulations to Daine Mellor - recipient of the 2016 Australia Council Fellowship for the Visual Arts.

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Fellowship recipient will be announced at the National Indigenous Arts Awards on 27 May 2017 with the Red Ochre and Dreaming Awards.

4 Congratulations to Daine Mellor - recipient of the 2016 Australia Council Fellowship for the Visual Arts. Winner of the 2009 National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art Award, Mellor s art explores ideas connected with landscape, history, post-colonialism and culture. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Fellowship recipient will be announced at the National Indigenous Arts Awards on 27 May 2017 with the Red Ochre and Dreaming Awards.Read more... Members News The 2016 Bond University Indigenous Gala was a sell-out evening; celebrating Indigenous culture and achievement. The event featured music legend Troy Cassar-Daley and the Annual Indigenous Art Auction with artworks sourced by AAAA Vice President Adam Knight and proudly supported by many AAAA members. All proceeds from the Gala support Bond University s Indigenous scholarships and students. This vibrant group of young artists began working out of Cape York in northern Queensland, creating Indigenous artworks to reflect the tropical heat and coastal reef shorelines of their homelands. In Gallery2 the work of Yuendumu artist Elsie Napanangka Granites celebrates the great Mina Mina Dreaming site that is sacred to women of the region. Image: Rosella Namok 'Stinging Rain Ya Fall Down' 110 x 180cm It's been an events filled couple of months at Yubu Napa Gallery in Alice Springs; We strive to promote the vibrant Arts scene in Central Australia with productive partnerships with Tourism Australia, Tourism NT and Tourism Central Australia. We also host many community and not for profit organisation's events in our gallery space at 65 Hartley Street Alice Springs. During November, Yubu Napa hosted a fundraising exhibition featuring artworks by students from the Flexi Learning Centre to raise funds for their Art trip to

Darwin. The aim of this program is to re-engage young adults into positive pathways for individual success. The effort and commitment from the students was outstanding.

We have invited two students to paint in our studio to further develop their technique and to provide support for these young emerging artist.

We will be commissioning a range of exclusive coasters featuring artworks by Leroy Link and are considering which artists works would look the most amazing on an OzAboriginal silk scarf! Flinders Lane Gallery has brought together another vibrant, contemporary selection of works by the artists of Warlukurlangu; renowned for their spectacular use of colour and pattern, depicting traditional Dreamtime stories in an enriched, contemporary way. Despite the hot weather the community marched on and displayed great spirit by immersing themselves in the offerings of the festival and enjoying the buzz in the atmosphere. Aboriginal culture was well promoted and received by the community, the festival offered an opportunity for people to connect and learn about Indigenous arts and culture. What an amazing way to showcase all that Central Australian Aboriginal Art Galleries have to offer.

Expect to see a collection of refined artworks that express an intimate portrayal of the intricacies of Country. Sorry Business AAAA acknowledges the passing of Glady Kemarre & Mr Snell and sends our deepest condolences to the family and communities. An inspiration to so many. Their legacy will live on in the lessons they taught us all about the power of culture and connection to country and family.
