1 PROGRAMME JULY 2017 THE ART OF FUNDRAISING 7 TH EDITION PRINCIPAL SPONSOR

2 CULTURE BUSINESS WELCOME TO CULTURE BUSINESS Culture Business started with 2 simple questions: What is new in fundraising? Who are the game-changers? Since the first edition of the conference in 2008 we have tried to answer these questions, building a global community of cultural leaders, innovators, and producers who champion future thinking in fundraisings. Year after year and across the globe we have found that arts organisations find fundraising increasingly challenging. As we face these challenges, we have discovered that innovation is not enough and that we must engage in collaborative work and seek more partners. Our social engagement as people and as organisations is vital. This year in Melbourne, it is a true privilege to bring an inspiring group of speakers to share their best practices with 200 experts in fundraising. During two and half days we will find new ways of working, evaluate new ideas and move forward. We thank our partners for their amazing support. It has been a great opportunity to work with all of you. Make the most of the Culture Business experience. About Culture Business The Culture Business conference gathers 200 professionals from the worlds of culture and business. Participants are encouraged to take risks and to think beyond the usual limits. Speakers showcase fresh ideas in philanthropy, marketing, sponsorship and development. Hands-on workshops tackle practical methods for operating in new markets. In between these intensive sessions there will be informal opportunities to network with your peers from around the world. The Culture Business Story Culture Business was launched in Paris in the aftermath of the financial crisis of With many concerned for the future, we brought together experts from the worlds of culture and business to learn from each other and foster new collaborations. We showcase fresh ideas and innovative strategies to help you thrive in uncertain times. Corinne Estrada CEO, Agenda communications agency 2 AGENDA culturebusiness.melbourne

John Rodgers, Consultant Director, National Theatre, United Kingdom John Rodgers says that bold, ambitious and sometimes risky initiatives in the cultural sector can prove to be highly attractive to existing or new sources of funding. If the funding is secured and those initiatives succeed, the reputation of the cultural organisation is enhanced and its support base grows. John will use a number of real examples of initiatives taken by the National Theatre which have helped to transform funding, reputation, audience reach and sales capacity. THE PRODUCER S APPROACH TO FUNDING A PROJECT Sanjoy K Roy, Managing Director, Teamwork Arts, India The creative industries and the arts need to be seen as embedded components of corporate and societal development and they need to be leveraged fully in the process of discovering new solutions for the varied problems that countries, communities and societies are facing. Learn about the new paradigm that we need to strive towards in order to establish accepted standards of excellence in creativity; we need to seek ways towards financially sustainable models that go beyond paying mere lip service to CSR objectives or subsidy-driven funding. A larger pan-industry vision needs to emerge. THE PROS AND CONS OF ARTS PARTNERSHIPS WITH GLOBAL LUXURY AND CONSUMER BRANDS Laura Sears, Head of Corporate Partnerships, Victoria and Albert Museum, United Kingdom The V&A has established a successful track record of working in partnership with global luxury and consumer brands on its high profile exhibition programme. With reference to specific case studies, Laura will explore the enormous advantages of this kind of alliance above and beyond the financial support given: increased marketing and PR reach, and audience development and learning outcomes. CAPITAL PROJECTS: BUILDING THE FUTURE OF THE CULTURAL ORGANISATION Caroline McCormick, Director, Achates Philanthropy, United Kingdom Successful cultural organisations have to have a clear understanding of who they are, what they are doing, who they are doing it for, and the impact of their work; this informs all of their decision-making and their fundraising strategy as well. Thriving fundraising campaigns result when fundraising and communications come together as a public manifestation of the organisation and its work; it s critical that you have your house in order before you invite people in PM TO 1.30 PM NETWORKING LUNCH 6 AGENDA culturebusiness.melbourne Programme subject to change
