8 WESTERN AUSTRALIA KIMBERLEY: BROOME BROWSE LNG PRECINCT A Liquefied Natural Gas Precinct (LNG) supporting gas fields in the Browse Basin, located off Western Australia s northern coastline. The Browse LNG Precinct is intended to support the processing of natural gas from the Browse Basin gas fields approximately 425km off the Kimberley coast. The Browse LNG Precinct is designed to accommodate a minimum of two gas processing proponents and other supporting activities at one location to reduce the environmental footprint of gas processing on the Kimberley coast and enable the sharing of common-user facilities such as the port, roads, infrastructure corridors and workers accommodation. The precinct is intended to cater for an LNG production capacity of up to 50 million tonnes per annum. The Department of State Development is the lead agency for the development of the Browse LNG Precinct. The Anketell project is planned to create a new multi-user port and associated Strategic Industrial Area (SIA) for strategic and downstream processing industries in the Pilbara. The Anketell SIA is connected to the future port, key regional infrastructure and local resources such as gas and iron ore.
