Click here Hi Waihi As winter's chill bites us all, it's still warm inside the Gold Discovery Centre in Waihi. The Centre is proving great all-weather entertainment for all ages and for families. There's a lot happening, read on... Waihi's award-winning walkway very popular Waihi Gold Mine Tours reach record numbers 1

2 You may have heard that the Martha Mine is going through some changes at the moment? Waihi's Pit Rim Walkway which encircles the Martha gold mine has recently been awarded a 'Certificate of Excellence' from Trip Advisor. The 4km walkway consistently receives rave-reviews on Trip Advisor and its popularity with locals and visitors alike continues to grow. The unique trail winds its way in a loop from the Cornish Pumphouse (opposite the Waihi i-site), through park land, native bush and via interesting gold mining heritage features and back to town, near cafes and shops. While the American owners, Newmont are currently in the process of selling Waihi's Martha Mine to Australian company Oceana Gold, Waihi Gold Mine Tours remains largely unaffected. Our exclusive independent tours will carry on taking passengers inside the fence where the general public can't go, to experience modern-day gold mining up close has been a record year for Waihi Gold Mine Tours with numbers up over 50% on our previous best year (2014). ACCEPT INVITATION AND REPLY Plans have recently been published announcing a proposed cycleway link between Waihi and Waihi Beach. The new 11km route would extend the Hauraki Rail Trail and deliver cyclists in to the heart of Waihi Beach. This is exciting news for tourismrelated businesses, as this new trail will undoubtedly add to the already huge appeal of the Karangahake to Waihi section of the Hauraki Rail Trail. Genuine Waihi Silver now for sale Ethically produced Silver from Waihi's Martha Mine can now be purchased from the Gold Discovery Centre. The Waihihi Bullion Company has arranged supply of the authentic Waihi silver to be available for purchase for the first time since the modern mine opened in The unique Waihihi branded ethical silver is available in 10 oz ingots from the Gold Discovery Centre. China Travel Service Expo in Auckland On 26th September we'll be part of the China Travel Services Expo at the Vodafone Events Centre in Manukau. We're looking forward to presenting the Gold Discovery Centre and Waihi Gold Mine Tours to the Auckland Chinese community and will have an awesome 'Weekend in Waihi' prize to give away to one lucky shopper. 4 With five months before the end of the year the Waihi Visitor Centre/i- SITE has already surpassed its previous highest visitor numbers ever! By the end of June the door counter told us we were approaching the 2010 record of 49,326, and by mid July we'd clicked over 50,000 people. Projections suggest between 60 & 70,000 people might visit the Centre by the end of 2015, a massive jump since opening as an i-site in collaboration with the Gold Discovery Centre.
