WestConnex As peak production edges closer on Australia s largest transport infrastructure project, there is now a 3,600-strong workforce helping to deliver WestConnex. Local businesses and suppliers are benefiting significantly as construction continues with more than 700 contracts signed to date with NSW based suppliers and companies. The $16.8 billion WestConnex is the most significant investment in road infrastructure in Australia right now, forming the central spine of Sydney s future motorway network with connections to the future Western Harbour Tunnel and F6 Extension, Sydney Motorway Corporation CEO Mr Cliche said. When WestConnex is completed, motorists will be able to travel between the Anzac Bridge or St Peters and Penrith without stopping at a single traffic light. With roadheaders working 24/7, cranes in the sky, and hundreds of pieces of machinery above and below the ground, it has also become a major driver of economic growth in NSW. At around 30 kilometres in length, WestConnex comprises of the widening and extending the New M4, duplicating the New M5 and connecting the two motorways to provide a long overdue underground link to create a seamless free-flowing western bypass of Sydney s central business district for motorists. WestConnex is about one-third complete and as construction continues the project is creating thousands of jobs and supporting a wide variety of businesses. Currently there are 3,600 people working across WestConnex project sites daily, including 1000 working underground, with 10,000 jobs to be created across the life of the project including hundreds of apprenticeships, Mr Cliche said. More than just a motorway, WestConnex will also deliver more than 18 hectares of open space for local communities in the inner west and around 23 kilometres of new and improved cycle-ways and walkways. New M4 Mr Cliche said Sydney motorists are already enjoying the benefits of 7.5 kilometres of widened New M4 with four lanes between Parramatta and Homebush opened to traffic in July last year, with a one-month toll free period. Since the opening of the widened New M4 to four lanes in each direction, motorists have benefited from improved travel times and access, Mr Cliche said. Motorists are experiencing significant travel time savings, including up to 18 minutes between Burwood and Pendle Hill, even with higher than anticipated volumes of traffic recorded. By early next year the widened section of the New M4 will connect to the New M4 tunnels currently under construction, to create a traffic-light-free connection between Parramatta and the City West Link at Haberfield. ENV With tunnelling almost completed on the New M4 and under way at all New M5 sites, around 20 kilometres has been tunnelled across the project and almost nine million tonnes of soil excavated. It will transform the way motorists, freight and services move through the city with 40 minutes projected to be cut from an average peak journey between Parramatta and Sydney Airport when complete. admin@nviroscope.com.au Fax: (02) Mob: The Roadbuilder Right Solutions Right Partner Specialist hydrology & meteorology expertise & services Field sampling Training Environmental monitoring E: hydrographics@alsglobal.com

Construction on the second section of WestConnex made major progress in 2017, with many surface sites transforming into road interchanges for the New M4. We ve been opening new sections of infrastructure to both improve connectivity to the M4 and open up areas to allow construction to proceed, which is an essential step on the path to getting the New M4 twin tunnels delivered, New M4 Project Director Terry Chapman said. Already motorists are benefitting on a new eastbound ramp from Homebush Bay Drive and new eastbound lanes on the M4 between Homebush Bay Drive and Concord Road, which includes travelling over the newly built tunnel entrance and exit ramps for the New M4. Moving traffic onto these new sections allows work to progress on the tunnel ramps in the middle of the motorway corridor. Beneath the surface the project team is moving onto the next phase of delivery With excavation of the 5.5km mainline tunnels between Homebush and Haberfield almost complete, the mechanical and electrical fit-out is now underway, and pavement work is also progressing, with more than 2.5 kilometres of surface now laid. The full length of the New M4 is around 6.5km the section between Homebush Bay Drive and Underwood Road is surface motorway, with twin three-lane tunnels providing access to Parramatta Road and Wattle Street, Haberfield, connecting to City West Link. There will also be connections at Concord Road, Concord. 3 tunnelling from construction sites at St Peters Interchange, Arncliffe, Bexley and Kingsgrove 24/7 with more than five kilometres excavated since tunnelling began in November 2016, Mr Reynolds said. At the deepest point, the top of the tunnels will be around 70 metres below ground level, with the average tunnel depth being 40 metres. The tunnels are wider, taller, and less steep than the current M5 East and will provide relief for motorists stuck on one of Sydney s most congested roads. Mr Reynolds said the multi-billion project requires input from a wide range of industries and Sydney s skilled workforce is springing into action to get the job done. More than 300 contracts have been signed with Sydney suppliers to help deliver the New M4 twin tunnels, supporting jobs and expanding businesses, Mr Cliche said. In addition we are fostering skill development with more than 140 apprentices and trainees working on the New M4, and more than 500 set to work across all WestConnex projects. Opening to traffic early next year, the New M4 tunnel will allow motorists to bypass up to 22 sets of traffic lights and gridlock that motorists face every day when they come off the M4 and come to a standstill on Parramatta Road. New M4 fast facts Since construction began in 2016: More than 7.5 million work hours have been clocked up More than 6 million tonnes of spoil has been excavated More than 220,000 cubic metres of concrete has been poured More than 300 contracts have been signed with Sydney suppliers Around 1,900 people are working on the project every day At peak excavation, 21 roadheaders were working 24/7 More than 700 contracts have been awarded at a value of more than $1 billion. New M5 The New M5 remains on track with construction activity under way at all sites, and work for the local road upgrades progressing. Crucially, 80 per cent of contracts awarded for the New M5 are with NSW based companies and suppliers, highlighting the vital role this project is playing in stimulating the Western Sydney economy and the opportunities it s providing for the local community, he said. The New M5 has also provided the catalyst for the remediation of the old Alexandria Landfill site and upon completion of the project will be transformed to enable public use for the first time in decades, Mr Reynolds said. Around 8.5 hectares of new green space will be created at the St Peters Interchange connecting to Sydney Park via a new land bridge across Campbell Road. King George Road Interchange Upgrade The $130 million King Georges Road Interchange Upgrade, which forms part of the New M5 upgrade was the first completed WestConnex project which opened ahead of schedule in December 2016, Mr Reynolds said. This vital enabling project for WestConnex has doubled the length of four on and off ramps to the M5 Motorway at King Georges Road, Beverly Hills. It was the precursor to the New M5 tunnels to St Peters, with the full benefits of the interchange to be realised when this project opens to traffic in early It help improve traffic flow to relieve notorious congestion along King Georges Road in Sydney s south-west. With two-thirds of WestConnex being built underground, much of the work is taking place beneath the surface, to ensure heavy traffic from surface roads is directed into tunnels, returning local streets to local communities, New M5 Director Ken Reynolds said. Twin nine kilometre tunnels are a major feature of the New M5 project which will run parallel to the existing M5 East to provide a non-stop underground journey between St Peters and Kingsgrove, doubling the motorway corridor from two to four lanes in each direction. As we near peak production, 18 roadheaders are now Office: info@besteelfixing.com.au 8 - The Roadbuilder

Boosting Jobs for Regional Communities Concrete precasts destined for the New M5 St Peters Interchange and Kingsgrove sites are being manufactured by local workers in the Hunter and Coffs Harbour region, boosting jobs for regional communities. 65 tonne t-shaped beams known as Super T girders were recently craned into position at St Peters Interchange as the transformation of the old Alexandria landfill site for the WestConnex New M5 ramps up. It has taken a significant engineering and logistics operation to lower these impressive locally made Super Ts into position, which are required to build the New M5 and M4-M5 Link tunnel entry portals at the St Peters Interchange, Mr Reynolds said. New M5 Fast Facts 18 roadheaders working 24/7 5.5 kilometres of tunnel excavated to date There are on average more than 1,700 people per day working on the project, including around 300 workers who make the journey underground each day, and more than 140 apprentices and trainees. There have been more than 1,900 residents of Greater Western Sydney employed on the project to date More than 80 per cent of contracts signed to date are with NSW based suppliers and companies. More than 4 million hours worked Around 2.8 million tonnes of spoil has been excavated to date. ROADSIDE EMERGENCY PHONE SYSTEMS Given the sheer size of each piece, the delivery and installation has required a staged process with three Super-T s transported more than 500 kilometres via truck from the Coffs Harbour precast yard each week. Sixty of the Super Ts are required to build the tunnel entry portals which will allow motorists to access the M4-M5 Link via the St Peters Interchange. A further 60 are being craned into position at the New M5 entry and exit portal which, will form the roof of the tunnel structure. It s incredibly rewarding for our workforce to see a key feature of the St Peters Interchange take shape, with what will be the entry and exit point for motorists accessing the New M5 twin tunnels at St Peters now clearly visible, Mr Reynolds said. 5 by WestConnex Delivery of more than 18 hectares of new open recreational space in Sydney Provisions for future connections to the proposed Western Harbour Tunnel, Sydney Gateway and future F6 extension to continue the growth of NSW. It will deliver more than $20 billion in benefits to NSW and play an important role in supporting Sydney s expected population growth of 1.6 million in the next 20 years. The work to build the tunnel portals has been taking place throughout the day and as Sydney sleeps, requiring a coordinated effort from our engineers, supervisors and workers on the ground. Around 1,000 concrete for the St Peters Interchange and Kingsgrove sites are being built in the Coffs Harbour precast yard, helping to support around 50 jobs on the midnorth coast. Work at the Coffs Harbour precast yard complements a further 600 concrete structures being made at the Hunter precast yard to build the nine bridges at the St Peters Interchange, helping to create around 50 jobs for the region. M4-M5 Link The M4-M5 Link is the most important stage of WestConnex, providing the missing link between the New M5 at St Peters and the New M4 at Haberfield to create a western bypass of the CBD. Construction is expected to start on the mainline tunnels in late 2018, subject to planning approval, with potential to open to motorists in The Rozelle Interchange and Iron Cove Link will commence construction in 2019 and open to traffic in WestConnex Fast Facts Almost 20 kilometres of tunnel excavated to date More than 11 million hours worked Tunnelling almost complete on the New M4 tunnel and under way at all New M5 sites 3,600 strong workforce currently supporting construction for the New M4 and M5 including 1,000 underground every day Across both projects almost 14,000 people have been involved to date Around 20 roadheaders working 24/7 Almost 9 million tonnes of soil excavated More than 700 contracts signed to date with NSW based suppliers and companies 80 per cent of the contracts awarded for the New M5 are with NSW based companies and suppliers Key Benefits The benefits to the NSW economy and community in the two years since inception of the project are clearly demonstrated by the: $1.6 billion in agreed contracts Almost 10,000 jobs to be created directly and indirectly 10 - The Roadbuilder M4 Widening Project value: $500 million Current status: Complete Construction start: March 2015 Open to traffic: mid-2017 Design and construct contract: CPB Contractors and Rizzani De Eccher Joint Venture M4 East Project value: $3.8 billion Current status: In construction Construction start: March 2016 Open to traffic: 2019 Design and construct contract: CPB Contractors, Samsung C&T Corporation and John Holland Joint Venture New M5 Project value: $4.3 billion Current status: in construction Construction start: July 2016 Open to traffic: early 2020 Design and construct contract: CPB Contractors, Dragados and Samsung Joint Venture Specialising in Concrete Construction in the Civil and Mining Industries with Expertise in Complex Structures n n n n Civil Treatment Plants Road and Bridges Mining Wash Bays and Trash Racks Heavy Vehicle Repair Bays Contact n Water Retaining Structures n Pump Stations n Refueling Plants n Hydrocarbon Pits n Mass Foundation for Hoppers and Conveyor Belts galwayconstructions@bigpond.com Ph: PO Box A95, Enfield South, NSW, 2133

M4-M5 Link Project value: $7.2 billion Current status: Planning/procurement underway for mainline tunnels Construction start: Mainline tunnels in 2018 and Rozelle Interchange / Iron Cove Link in 2019 (pending planning approval) Open to traffic: Pending planning approval mainline tunnels to potentially open in Rozelle Interchange and Iron Cove link New M5 Interchange Takes Shape with 4 Million Work Hours Recorded Work on the $4.3 million WestConnex New M5 has reached four million work hours with 60 Super T concrete girders being craned into place to create the tunnel entry points to the St Peters interchange. Minister for WestConnex Stuart Ayres said below ground as Sydney sleeps, 18 roadheaders are carving out nine kilometre tunnels with almost 3 million tonnes of spoil excavated to date across the project. Work is racing ahead on these impressive twin tunnels which will cut up to half an hour from an average peak journey between Liverpool and South Sydney, Mr Ayres said. It s exciting to know that in around two years motorists will be able to travel from the King Georges Interchange at Beverly Hills to St Peters in around 10 minutes. Around 1,700 people are working every day on the New M5, including 300 underground, to build capacity for our motorway network. New M5 Project Director Ken Reynolds said 350 tonne cranes are loading each of the 65 tonne T-shaped beams into place, transported from the Coffs Harbour precast yard where they were manufactured by local workers. The nine kilometre tunnels will run parallel to the existing M5 East to provide a non-stop underground journey between St Peters and Kingsgrove, doubling the motorway corridor from two to four lanes in each direction, Work at St Peters Interchange will return 8.5 hectares of new green space to the community connected to Sydney Park via a new land bridge across Campbell Road, and 12 kilometres of new and upgraded pedestrian and cycle paths around St Peters and Mascot. The project will also deliver a net increase in replacement tree plantings, and we will work local councils in the New M5 corridor on this replanting project. The Roadbuilder - 11

First traffic switch marks milestone on New M5 Motorists travelling towards the city on the M5 East Motorway at Kingsgrove will be driving on a new road surface from today, as construction pushes ahead for the WestConnex New M5 project. Minister for WestConnex Stuart Ayres said the traffic switch for eastbound motorists marks the next construction milestone at the Kingsgrove site, where twin nine-kilometre tunnel entry and exit portals and surface connections are being built to provide a non-stop underground trip between Kingsgrove and St Peters. While tunnelling takes place underground to duplicate the existing M5 corridor, we re making significant progress aboveground too, Mr Ayres said. Motorists travelling on the M5 East at Kingsgrove can see a hive of activity under way either side of the motorway as workers push ahead with building the western entry and exit point for the New M5 tunnels, which will double the motorway corridor from two to four lanes in each direction. Federal Minister for Urban Infrastructure and Cities Paul Fletcher said work for the New M5 remained on track with around 1,700 people on average working on the project each day. This vital project is supporting up to 10,000 direct and indirect jobs during peak construction, Mr Fletcher said. It s yet another example of how the Turnbull Government s record infrastructure investment is creating jobs and driving economic growth across the country. From early next week, weather permitting, westbound traffic between Kingsgrove Road and King Georges Road will be moved onto a temporary section of road to the right of the existing road alignment, Mr Reynolds said. This will allow workers to safely continue construction of the tunnel portals and other required surface connections. These changed traffic conditions will not impact traffic capacity on the M5 East and will be in place until Motorists are advised to stay alert, follow the signs in place advising the changed conditions and drive with care. The 80km/h speed limit currently in place will remain unchanged. When the New M5 opens to traffic in early 2020, motorists will be able to travel from the King Georges Road Interchange at Beverly Hills to St Peters in around 10 minutes. 10 WestConnex Concord Road Interchange The Reinforced Earth Company (RECO) have been subcontracted by CPB Contractors, Samsung C & T, John Holland Joint Venture to design, supply and manufacture Reinforced Earth retaining walls, and supply and manufacture precast road barriers, precast concrete fascia panels and precast concrete structural elements for the WestConnex motorway project in NSW. WestConnex Concord Road Interchange is featured here. This interchange provides the main entry and exit points for the M4 East tunnels at Concord. The twin tunnels extend the M4 (Sydney s main motorway from the CBD to the western suburbs) offering three underground lanes in each direction from Homebush to Haberfield. In September 2017 a series of overnight closures to traffic around the major intersection of Concord Road and Parramatta Road took place to allow steel girders to be installed. The girders support concrete decks that contribute towards the construction of the on-ramp bridge to the existing M4 Motorway from Concord Road southbound and the M4 westbound on-ramp bridge from Parramatta Road to the M4 East. The Reinforced Earth on-ramp retaining walls and abutment featured here are 621m in length and cover an area of 2274sqm. Reinforced Earth TerraPlus concrete facing panels are finished with a smooth black oxide with centred vertical grooves. The grooves are architecturally designed to match the groove created by the panel joints making the walls appear to be seamless. The Reinforced Earth walls for the on-ramp are continued along the adjacent roadway at ground level by 367m of precast concrete fascia panels that have the same finish as the abutment panels. These vary in height from 1m to 7.4m and are installed as traffic barriers. The fascia panels have 165m of black oxide capping attached, while the Reinforced Earth walls are capped with precast crash barriers in a plain concrete finish. The precast elements of the structures supplied by RECO are all manufactured in the RECO Precast Facilities in Tuggerah and Berkeley Vale north of Sydney. The different precast concrete elements are designed and then manufactured to work together, have finishes which match perfectly and are delivered to site for a timely, rapid and easy installation. The Reinforced Earth block is installed completely from within its area therefore having very little impact on the existing roadways. On the WestConnex project all associated surface work needs to be completed with as little impact as possible to the existing traffic. Reinforced Earth structures are the perfect choice.
