Many quality items were available - shoes, clothes, fresh fish, toys, spectacles, houshold china, freshly baked bread and cakes, electrical goods (sold in a shop next door to the town hall,owned by Mr & Mrs Huw Lloyd Jones, whom I believe are both in their 90 s, Mr Jones delivered milk to many of us in the village for many years. I remember how exciting it was to go to Mrs Lloyd, the music shop, to collect records that we had ordered the previous week! Similarly, having taken photographs with my box camera I would take the film to the chemist then wait eagerly over the weekend for the snaps to arrive! I remember, as a young boy, accompanying my great aunt Ena each evening to clean Lloyds Bank. I can still smell the polish she used, it was in an old, round tin! The bank is now a hairdressers I believe. We were very fortunate to have been brought up in, we had the mountains, Aber Lake, the Quarry, Dinas, three streams and Garreg Fawr on one side and the sea of course at the other side...what a wonderful playground for any child!i felt safe in...everyone knew everyone, we were certainly a very caring and happy community in those days.
