2 VILLAGE NOTICE Municipal Office News With summer just around the corner please remember that conservation helps everyone! Stage 1 Watering Restrictions are in effect June 1, 2017 You may water lawns, trees, shrubs/flowers/vegetable gardens using hose connected or automatic in-ground sprinklers as follows: ODD # houses can water on ODD # days (July 1, 3, 5, etc) EVEN # houses can water on EVEN # days Campfire and Open Fire information Check for current restrictions. It is your responsibility to be aware of restrictions. Effective at noon on Thursday, July 6, 2017, all open fires, including campfires, will be prohibited throughout the Coastal Fire Centre's jurisdiction, with the exception of the area known as the "Fog Zone". Campfire: 0.5 metres high by 0.5 metres wide Category 2 Open Fire: burning debris not to exceed 2 metres high or three metres wide Within Port Alice limits, you must obtain a burn permit at the Village Office. Report a wildfire: or *5555 on a cell phone Village Council Meetings Council Meetings are held the 2nd & 4th Wednesday of the month in the Village Council Chambers at 7:00 pm. If there is an issue or concern that you wish to address Council about, you may request delegate status by submitting a signed letter of request by 5:00 pm on the Thursday prior to the next meeting. 3 Municipal Office News Municipal Transfer Station 721 Marine Drive Open to Port Alice Residents Monday - Friday 8:15 a.m. - 3:45 p.m. (EXTENDED TO 6:00 PM WEDNESDAYS) Saturdays 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Sundays 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Recycling Inside Depot (Packaging and printed material) uploads/2014/03/materials_list_pdf.pdf Please drop off your recycling at the inside depot during operating hours. Wednesday 12 p.m. - 6 p.m. Saturday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Sunday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Due to new disposal requirements Drywall can no longer be accepted at the Port Alice Transfer Station. If drywall is found in our blue bin when it s emptied at the 7 Mile Landfill, the Village of Port Alice is charged $325 per tonne for the entire bin. The Village of Port Alice has cameras at the Transfer Station and will pass on the charges to anyone who is observed disposing of drywall in the bin. 6 FALL FAIR 2017 is coming to PORT McNEILL GATEWAY TO THE GREAT BEAR RAINFOREST It s time to get working on your exhibit entries! The Fall Fair is happening this year in Port McNeill on September 9-10 th. Exhibit lists and booth rental forms are already available at the following locations: Port McNeill: Tourist Information Centre; Library; Ministry of Forests/Service BC lobby Port Hardy: Tourist Information Centre; Library; Hobby Nook Port Alice: Library Or from our website: We hope that school children will remember to save their projects from the past year to enter in the fair. Everyone is eligible to win ribbons and cash prizes for their arts and crafts, garden entries, home canning and baking, etc. Businesses and organizations can start planning their booths, and non-profit groups can start working on how to use a fair booth to raise funds (selling food, bake sales, games etc.) and/or recruit new members. Don t forget we can never have enough food booths, and this is an easy way to raise money call us for ideas. The committee has jobs for people who want to volunteer for the next 2 months, or people who just want to help on the weekend of the fair: jobs range from the energetic to less active jobs like ticket tables and taking in exhibits.
