Events / Activities for the year April 2012 April events and activities June July August September 4 th & 5 th Joint Conference with BCA MOU was signed with BCA on June 4th 19 th - Members night Focus on CPD needs in Singapore 2 nd - EXCO meeting Various meetings with the following institutions on possible collaboration strategies. - MOM, - WSHC - WSHI - SCAL Courtesy visits to BCA and SISO 10 th & 11 th - Conference with NUS/IES (IOSH Singapore as Strategic Partner) 12 th & 13 th - Conference with WSHC/MOM (IOSH as Strategic Partner) Participation in the IOSH (UK) Networks Conference on 6 7 Sep 2012 the event was held on 6 7 Nov 2012 at The Radisson Blu, East Midlands Airport, UK Singapore Branch was represented by Harry Ho, Chair, and Kenneth Leong, Director of Events An International Training Session was held in the afternoon of 5 Nov It was a practical, hands on training session delivered by IOSH s Communications team, covering communication tools including the webinars, social media and podcasts. The Networks Conference was opended in the morning of 6 Nov 2013 by the President Mr. Subash Ludhra, who briefed the attendees on the New Direction & Strategy Various IOSH Committees Representatives then briefed the attendees 3 about their roles and how their committees functions and operates with the local and international branches, including Networks and International, Membership, Communications, Events, Research and Information. AGM was held in the late afternoon of 6 Nov 2013, within which the current President Mr. Subash Ludhra hand over the Chain of Office to the President (Elect) Mr. Gerald Hand, who then became the new President this term of year. The end of the Conference in the afternoon of 7 Nov 2013 was closed by an Open Forum with the Executive Directors Team. Page 3 of 10
4 October November 4 th - EXCO meeting 1. Exhibition in HDB Seminar in Nov 2012 A total of 70 participants visited the exhibition booth. Goodies bags with IOSH material were given to participants. 2. Presented a Paper at 2 nd Annual Asia Pacific HSE Forum in Oil, Gas & Petrochemicals 5 6 Nov 2012 Held at Kuala Lumpur Malaysia By Venugopal Hon Treasurer IOSH(SG) Topic Building a Positive Safety Culture December 6 th - EXCO meeting Other items in 2012 Feedback on drafted documents during the public comments stage (Code of Practice for Working Safely At Height Revision, Drafted WSH (Working At Heights) Regulations) Presentation at the University of Newcastle s alumni evening/anniversary event. A great occasion with great food, meeting environment and a casual and relaxing feel, the evening attracted some 80 delegates of old and new friends all with a passion for safety. The Professor gave a great opening presentation and welcomed everyone while the audience enjoyed dinner and got to know each other or catch up with colleagues. Darren presented an overview of the Singapore IOSH Branch where we are and what we have been doing over the last 12 months, which was very well received and generated much interest from the Alumni members who wished to learn more about IOSH and membership. After this evening the branch then sponsored the Newcastle University best 2012 graduate in OH&S at the graduation the following weekend, where by the graduate was awarded one year free IOSH Membership. Nominations by IOSH Singapore Branch in 2012 Honorary Vice President of IOSH Er. Ho Siong Hin, PPA (P), the current Commissioner for Workplace Safety and Health, holds a concurrent position as the Divisional Director for the Ministry of Manpower s Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Division. Honorary Fellowship of IOSH Dr. Jukka Takala, the current Executive Director of the Workplace Safety and Health Institute, Ministry of Manpower Both of them received their above awards during the Singapore WSH Conference 2012, which were presented by Mr. Gerald Hand, President (Elect), and witnessed by the Manpower Minister Mr. Tan Chuan Jin Page 4 of 10
5 2013 Events and Activities February 7 th - EXCO meeting IOSH SG participated in the University of Newcastle's B Env OHS External Advisory Group Meeting on 22 Feb Feb 2013 University of Newcastle's B Env OHS External Advisory Group Meeting IOSH SG participated in the University of Newcastle's B Env OHS External Advisory Group Meeting Feb 2013 Annual IOSH Conference Health and Safety Fit for the Future IOSH (Singapore) Vice Chairman Darren Brunton attended this event in London, where the key note sessions were with Judith Hackitt- HSE UK, Andrew McNaughton, Todd Wright, Karl Ulrich Kohler and Richard Heron discussing their thoughts for the future. Also additional sessions with Lawrence Waterman, David Rowbotham and Alan Spence on the discussion of safety during the Olympics. Several HSE Acops being revised and industry thoughts on this. There was a case study of a court case. The two inspirational speakers John Anker and Mark Ormrod left the lasting impression with all, and Mark especially is an inspiration for leadership and determination. March 7 th - New members night/ open forum for networking purposes. This event was open to all safety practitioners. International speakers gave presentations on current topical issues in the Safety industry, a free buffet dinner and IOSH merchandize was on offer to members and all in all the event was a success with more than 80 people from a variety of industries across Singapore and beyond taking this opportunity to network amongst fellow practitioners. 6 28th March - Technical visit to the large Rolls Royce facility in Singapore. A Technical visit to the Rolls-Royce Facility at Seletar was attended by 20 members of IOSH Singapore on 28th march The half day included visits to the Wide Chord Fan Blade manufacturing facility which will eventually manufacture 6000 hollow titanium Wide Chord Fan Blades (WCFBs) for the Trent 900, 1000, and XWB family of Engines. This is a 26,500m2 production floor area. Production started in 2012 and is expected to ramp up to full capacity in The trip included a tour of the engine build facility which has a 19,500m2 assembly hall & 7,000m2 Test Best area. The facility can produce 250 Trent engines per year when on full build capacity. The engines produced in Singapore will eventually be installed on Airbus A380, Boeing 787 (Dream liner) and Airbus A350(Due delivery end of 2013) aircraft. An excellent and educational trip to this impressive facility heartfelt thanks and appreciation go to Wasiluk Richard Kazimierz (Richard) for arranging this. April Technical Visit of IOSH (Singapore Branch) to Hong Kong 4th April ~ 6th April 2013 A Technical visit to Hong Kong was organized by IOSH (Singapore Brach) from 4th April to 6th April IOSH (Hong Kong Branch) made the arrangement for 3 days technical visit. In total 12 delegates (IOSH members) joined the technical visit. Day 1- Arrival into HK, plus IOSH members introduced themselves to IOSH Hong Kong and OSH activities and countries OSH best practices were shared. There followed a technical visit to the premises of The Occupational Safety and Health Council (OSHC) where Council staff introduced the ISOH members with their core functions and the various OSH training facilities on site. Day 2- A technical trip in the morning to Black point power station where OSH management system was shared by their Safety manager followed by a tour on foot of the electricity generation plant and the maintenance of the electric generator. The group visited the Transport Infrastructure Management Pte Ltd, in the afternoon, a company responsible for maintenance of the Tsing Ma Bridge and other bridges. The unique features of the world s longest bridge carrying both rail and road traffic and controlling of Tsing Ma bridge were shared. Day 3- started with the visit to the Mass Transit Rapid (MTR) construction site, constructing the deep tunnel for MTR by Nishimatsu construction Pte Ltd. The project manager welcomed both the local and visiting IOSH Teams and introduced the Technical and OSH challenges faced in the MTR works. Different OSH management programme were shared by the project team which helped to keep the site accident free. A tour was arranged to acknowledge the physical challenge of the construction by going into the deep tunnel and feel the safety and health environment inside the tunnel. The Technical visit ended at 1:00PM with words of thanks to ISOH (Hong Kong) Branch during the Lunch for all the arrangements and warm hospitality. Page 6 of 10

Contributions / Comments on Singapore s Safety and Health Development IOSH (Singapore) offered feedback and comments to the Ministry of Manpower and Workplace Safety and Health Council on the following topics: 1. Draft Guidelines on Managing Safety and Health for Metalworking SMEs Jan WSH Guidelines on Landscape and Horticulture Works Jan Fall Protection Systems Guidelines Part 1: Anchorages, Lifelines and Temporary Edge Protection Systems July Draft WSH (WORK AT HEIGHTS) Regulations Oct Revision Code of Practice for Working Safely at Height Jan 2013 Page 7 of 10
8 4. Membership Statistics & Branch Growth Total branch membership has increased significantly over the last twenty four months. Month Actual Numbers Percentages Apr Apr Mar Membership Demographics Breakdown of the numbers shows an uneven spread. The majority of our members come from the Affiliate, Graduate and Technician grades. The branch is developing strategies to encourage and develop these members to progress to higher grades through the IOSH CPD program. Industries represented: Page 8 of 10
9 We see a similar skew in the industries represented with the bulk of our support coming from the following sectors Offshore International Construction Consultancy, Fire Risk Management and Hazardous industries show up as a secondary dominant group. Page 9 of 10
