1 IMechE Aerospace North West Meeting Minutes A meeting of the IMechE Aerospace North West committee was held on Monday 19 th October 2015 at David Lloyd Club, Chorley. The meeting commenced at 18:30 till 20:30. 2 2 MINUTES FROM THE LAST MEETING The minutes from the last meeting held on Monday 7 th September 2015 were agreed to be the true and accurate record. 3 TREASURERS REPORTS For ANW finances see Appendix 2. Current balance is There are outstanding actions related to the Yorkshire air museum visit which almost cancel each other out so the end balance would be rather than The outstanding actions are: ANW to pay back to HQ Rebecca Donald-Lopez to pay 85 refund from Bubble Travel into ANW account ANW to pay 5 to attendees who requested a travel refund (total of 20) So the net gain is AEROSPACE DIVISION & HQ UPDATES There is an Aerospace Board committee meeting on Monday 26 October Andrew Medd reported that HQ has updated the events booking website for the better. 5 EVENTS & ACTIVITIES PROGRAMME / Water management & Ice formation in Aircraft Fuel Systems Date: Tuesday 3 rd November 2015 Venue: Lecture Theatre T0.03 MMU Time: 18:00 for 18:30 Speaker: Dave Bradshaw, Commercial Director & Duncan Woods, Senior Engineer, Woodford Engineering Consultancy Title: Water management & Ice formation in Aircraft Fuel Systems Organiser: Martin Hyman The proposed Undercarriage event by APPH could not go ahead, therefore an event on the Met Office was proposed as a replacement. However, Manchester area committee thought this was not mechanical enough and requested a replacement. Martin Hyman has organised a replacement lecture titled Water management & Ice formation in Aircraft Fuel Systems. There will be 2 speakers from Woodford Engineering Consultancy. This event has been advertised and 9 attendees registered so far. Rebecca Donald-Lopez took an action to send the attendees list to Robert Maekin and to post two gifts for speakers to Martin Hyman. 3 5.2 Teranis Flight Testing Joint Lecture with RAeS Preston Branch Date: 9 th December 2015 Venue: Canberra Club Samlesbury, BB2 7LF Time: 19:30 for 21:00 Speaker: Paddy Bourne, BAE Systems Title: Taranis Flight Testing Organiser: RAeS Preston Branch Rebecca Donald-Lopez took an action to add the event details to the website and send via the list server. Andrew Medd informed the committee that the new event booking system sends out an automatic event reminder Air Accident Investigation Lecture Date: Tuesday 26 th January 2015 Venue: Lecture Theatre Warton Time: 18:00 for 18:30 Speaker: Keith Conradi Chief Inspector of the AAIB in Farnborough Title: Air Accident Investigation Organiser: Martin Baxter Martin Baxter reported that due to half term Keith Conradi Chief Inspector of the AAIB in Farnborough could no longer make the October date. It was decided to re-arrange this meeting for January or February, avoiding 13 Jan, 10 Feb & 17 Feb. Martin took an action to see if the visit can be tied in with a business meeting at BAE Systems. Since the meeting this date has been set as Tuesday 26th January Action: Martin Baxter The point was raised that this event was initially going to be a joint event with RAeS Preston Branch. It was decided that we would ask them to joint badge it in terms of promotion. 5.4 Visit to Kaman Composites UK Date: Venue: Time: Organiser: Feb / April / May Kaman Burnley site Martin Hyman Martin Hyman has been back in touch with Kaman regarding a factory visit. They are now happy for us to visit their Burnley site. Martin Hyman took an action to confirm the date to be either mid to late Nov or any time January, avoiding 13 Jan, depending on the date of the AAIB. This event will now need to be organised for Feb (avoiding 10 & 17 Feb), April or May 2016 as the AAIB event is now in January. Action: Martin Hyman Page 3 of 10

4 5.5 Met Office Lecture Date: Feb / April / May Venue: Time: 18:00 for 18:30 Speaker: Title: Organiser: Martin Hyman Martin Hyman volunteered to organise this for January or February, avoiding 13 Jan, 10 Feb & 17 Feb, depending on the AAIB event date. This event therefore now needs to be organised for February, April or May as the AAIB event is in January. Action: Martin Hyman 5.6 Invitation Only Visit to MBDA UK Ltd. Date: Wednesday 23 rd March 2016 Venue: MBDA UK Ltd, Lostock, Bolton, BL6 4BR Time: 18:00 for 18:15 Numbers: 12 maximum Organiser: Andrew Medd Andrew Medd took an action to contact Gareth Humphreys and request a visit for a Wednesday afternoon or evening in March. Since the meeting Andrew has arranged the event as above. 6 WISH LIST FOR FUTURE EVENTS A wish list of future events suggested by committee members at this meeting can be seen in appendix 3.
