Hamburg Aviation is the aviation cluster in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region Members are companies, associations, universities and public bodies Aim: to promote the aviation industry in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region and bring together the industry, research, education, and the public sector

15 HOW IS A CLUSTER FORMED? Companies accumulate at a single locationalong a single value creation chain Training and research facilities are added An initiative is launched to coordinate joint projects The development receives public sector support Cluster: the organised form of an established industry concentration. Triple-helix structure = research + industry + public sector

18 NETWORKING FOCUS Hamburg Aviation Forum brings together stakeholder 3 times a year for specific topics (such as MRO, IT and connectivity, air transport systems) Further events such as the North German Aviation Forum, Aircraft Interiors Expo Senate Reception and working groups such as Aviation WoMen strengthen network

19 RESEARCH FOCUS: ZAL ZAL Center of Applied Aeronautical Research specializes in 6 Technical Domains, such as Cabin, Aerospace Production and Fuel Cells Among ZAL s stakeholders: 25,000 sqm ZAL TechCenter opening 1/1/2016, with Airbus, LH Technik, DLR, Diehl, Zodiac, Siemens, 4 universities among the tenants

21 EDUCATION FOCUS: HCAT The Hamburg Centre of Aviation Training (HCAT) steers Hamburg s education programs in aviation, bringing partners from all sides to the same table 2011-opened HCAT building is being used by industry, schools and universities parallely and has been attracting delegations from all over the world

22 EUROPEAN AEROSPACE CLUSTER PARTNERSHIP (EACP) In 2009, Hamburg launched an initiative bringing together aerospace regions from across Europe, today uniting 34 cluster networks from 14 countries Since then, the Hamburg-led EACP has successfully driven numerous European projects, such as Clean Aerospace Regions (CARE) and Bridging East-West M

24 CRYSTAL CABIN AWARD The Oscar of Aircraft Interiors is being awarded every year at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg. Launched in 2006, the project management is still with the cluster, while the award is completely funded by sponsors such as Airbus and Emirates. The CCA receives worldwide media attention, reaching an audience of over 1.5 billion in 2015 alone
