2 NANSC company Overview NANSC, National Air Navigation Services company is a non share capital company, wholly owned by the government. Page 2 Responsible for preparing and operating Air Traffic Services, Navigational Aids and Safe guarding Air Navigation Services within The Egyptian Airspace and in all Egyptian airports (Twenty one Aerodrome Control Tower) Its mission is committed to achieve Aviation Safety expectation, providing safe and flexible flow of air traffic. Its goal is enhancing ANS field of CNS,Safety coordinating ATM,SAR, & AIS, and improving the delivery and financial performance of services. Representing Egypt in organizations and ANS conferences,conducting ATS as well as search and rescue communication with neighboring countries and participating in making successful military maneuvers.

3 Main activities in MEDUSA National Workshop in Cairo for: Awareness of EGNOS use, operations and benefits Involvement of key stakeholders and decision-makers Evaluating/understanding country's needs and opportunities in various transport domains Exploring synergies with country s relevant initiatives Considering the potential of the country, promotion in aviation and non-aviation transport domains Euromed GNSS WG meetings for regional cooperation on EGNOS Participation in GEMCO for regional cooperation Technical workshop for training and capacity building Regulatory Analysis to: Evaluate/assess the country readiness Identify the necessary steps to be done for EGNOS introduction in aviation Page 3

4 Main outcomes and progresses Huge potential for EGNOS adoption in a wide range of domains: Aviation Non-aviation transport domains (road freight transport and logistics applications, maritime and inland waterways) Precise-positioning applications, such as surveying and mapping Community mainly from universities/research centres very interested and active in experimenting EGNOS Decision-makers appreciate the benefits of EGNOS use in the different domains In aviation: Egypt is ready from the regulatory perspective to introduce EGNOS operations The use of SBAS is presently considered from both MOCA, Ministry of Civil aviation, and Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority, ECAA and it is already included in Egypt national PBN plan Egypt recommended to progress to the next institutional step Page 4

5 Lessons learnt Page 5 There are concrete steps already done by Egypt towards EGNOS proving support and interest towards EGNOS: signature of the contract with ESA on 22nd OCT 2008 ESA contract no /2008/F/V to host two EGNOS RIMS stations in Abu Simbel and Alexandria in formal witnessing (signing) of Minister of civil aviation of Egypt, in addition to renew the O&M contract for these two RIMS for another seven years till Main issues: Lack of the EGNOS signal coverage Slow decision-making process for undertaking the next institutional step

6 To-dos By Egypt: 1. Enhance coordination among the country s decision-makers in charge for EGNOS introduction in the various domains (e.g. MoT, MOCA, ECAA) 2. Establish a national committee on aviation consisting of ANSP, Egypt air, ECAA and military side to accompany the decision-making process Page 6 By the EC: 1. Complete the EGNOS coverage 2. Help in GNSS based procedures implementation for a practical case/airport for: Training Benefit validation in a concrete case Safety case Business case also to support decision-making process (similarly to Tunisia, Lebanon in MEDUSA)
