CREATING RELIABLE BUILDING OPERATIONS AT AIRPORTS Gateway Gardens at Frankfurt Airport Sept 27-28, 2018 The Smart Approach to Facilities Management and Integrated Communication at Rome Airport Mariano Altamore Johnson Controls Hosted by Partner Airports Partners
Aeroporti di Roma (ADR) then 2004: multiple systems connected to legacy Metasys version 1998: installed Metasys on Cargo City 2004: single seat station based on OPC technology 2006: new BACnet open standard; ADR understood potential of BACnet protocol 2
ADR now Fewer systems and BACnet connectivity throughout all tiers Vendor independent Normalized point definition BACnet protocol support (IP and MS/TP) No license costs Peer to peer communication Alarm notification defined with priority management; eventdriven data access (COV) to increase performance Other standard features (trending and scheduling) Johnson Controls is ADR s technology partner 3
Currently installed: 190 Metasys BACnet IP Network Supervisory Contollers 1300 Third Party BACnet IP & BACnet MS/TP devices (Chillers, AHU, VRF, VAV, Pumps, BTU Meters, Energy Meters.) 3500 Graphic Pages 5000 Metasys BACnet MS/TP field controllers Trends Alarms Points managed by Metasys 4

Terminal Indoor Temperature Control Cooling Plant Heating Plant Benefits with BACnet Uniformed way to manage connected equipments Ability to define priority stucture for commanding Simplified scheduling management on all devices 7
Fast and simple alarm management for airports to handle large numbers of alarms Customer Benefits: Reduced nuisance alarms Grouped alarm occurrences for easy management All info in single place Benefits with BACnet Well defined and standardized alarms structure Priority management Alarms defined by BACnet controllers Alarms dispached to several destinations 8
Integrating Flight Information System with Metasys Building Automation System Automates operator commands Turns lights on/off and HVAC managing Airplane Time and delays Benefit for Customer: Provides energy and operational savings Metasys activates the gates only when necessary, managing flight schedules and delays without manual interventions 9
Added Value and Benefit of BACnet Benefits for the operator Single user interface for several systems Single, unified command and controls structure Easy alarm management Energy efficiency through integration of multiple systems Added value for Rome Airport One Integrator with full responsibility for a working environment Product agnostic for easier procurement management Data normalization and standardization Easy energy management and optimization Reduced total cost of operation (better CAPEX and OPEX management) Future cost savings through system scability and BACnet integrations on all levels 10
