2 DAYS 1/2 ~ IOWA CITY/CAPE TOWN VINEYARD HOTEL AND SPA. (Meals Aloft) Your journey begins as you board your overnight flight to Cape Town, arriving the next evening. Your hotel has over 200 years of history within its walls and is situated in six acres of attractive landscaped parkland on the banks of the Liesbeeck River. Located in the lush leafy suburb of Newlands, your hotel is within easy walking distance of the upmarket Cavendish Shopping Centre and is just 10 minutes away from the City Center and the popular Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. DAY 3 ~ CAPE TOWN: CAPE PENINSULA VINEYARD HOTEL AND SPA. (B,L) Discover a cornucopia of culture, natural beauty and history around every bend on your drive to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve highlighted by quaint seaside towns, rugged shorelines, and majestic rock formations. At Cape Point, see rare proteas, the endangered sago-belly frog, Cape grysbok, Cape mountain zebra, and Cape fox. After lunch, get up close to the braying jackass penguins at Boulders Beach. Return to Cape Town in the evening, where you have another chance to discover one of the numerous restaurants that Cape Town has to offer. DAY 4 ~ CAPE TOWN/ROBBEN ISLAND/ KHAYELITSHA (NEW HOME TOWNSHIP) VINEYARD HOTEL AND SPA. (B,L) Visit one of the most significant and moving sights in South Africa, Robben Island, where former President Nelson Mandela spent 17 years imprisoned for his beliefs. After lunch, visit the Townships, a tour that offers insight and interaction with different cultures, communities, and individuals. Tour the living accommodations created at the height of the apartheid era, and end your tour with a visit to Khayelitsha ( new home ). Duties permitting, you will meet founder Vivian Zilo, and spend time with her gaining a personal insight into her work in the community and learning more about the area in which they live. Crisscrossed by five rivers, Kruger serves as refuge for 300 different types of trees, 49 species of fish, 34 types of amphibian, 116 different reptilian species, 505 species of birds, and 147 species of mammals. Your guide will interpret the ecosystems and animal behavior, and help you to identify the strands in the web of life. Your lovely lodge is set on the banks of the Nwatswitswonto River. This World Heritage Site features some 1,470 plant species. Afterwards, drive to the winelands, a tapestry of vineyards interwoven with the historic towns of Stellenbosch, Paarl, and Franschhoek at the base of the Boland Mountains. This is the cradle of the South African fruit and wine industries, every season offers enchanting foliage: spring flowers, summer fruits, autumn leaves and the fresh greenery of the rainy winter.
