2 YOUR ITINERARY JULY 31/AUGUST 1/2 ~ HOME/YOGYAKARTA, INDONESIA Depart the U.S. on an overnight flight to Yogyakarta, Indonesia arriving on August 2. After checking into your hotel, gather this evening for a private welcome dinner at the Ndalem Kaneman, a residence belonging to the Sultan s brother. PHOENIX HOTEL YOGYAKARTA. (Meals Aloft, D) AUGUST 3 ~ YOGYAKARTA ~ CITY TOUR Explore the sights of Yogyakarta starting with the Sultan s Palace, known locally as Kraton. Next visit the historic neighborhood of Kotagede by traditional three-wheeled pedicab. Tour Bumen Village and experience the Kembang Waru bread production process, then stroll through the Pasar Gede market. End the day with a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage designated Prambanan Temple, the largest Hindu temple complex in Indonesia. PHOENIX HOTEL YOGYAKARTA. (B,L,D) AUGUST 4 ~ BOROBUDUR Discover the iconic 9th-century Mahayana Buddhist temple Borobudur. Boasting more than 500 Buddha statues and 2,600 relief panels, Borobudur is the world s largest Buddhist temple and one of Indonesia s greatest treasures. The University is not responsible for Conditions of Travel Your Leader Michael Laffan Professor of History Born in Canberra, Australia, Michael Laffan s first taste of Southeast Asia came in the last year of primary school, when he had his first Indonesian classes. A trip to Bandung on a brief youth exchange was later the highlight of his schooling. Since then he has embarked on the study of Indonesian history and its connections to the Middle East and Indian Ocean world, writing most recently on the narratives of the many peoples taken from Java and the Eastern Isles to Lanka and the Cape of Good Hope. While more apprised of Islamic history, he is looking forward to revisiting the sites of much earlier connection between Southeast and Southern Asia, and to avoiding being bitten by a Komodo dragon. changes to trips or travel arrangements or for losses or additional expenses resulting from travel. From April 28 to May 17, 2019, deposit is forfeited. From May 18 to May 27, 2019, 50% of the tour cost. After May 27, 2019, no refund due.
