2 YOUR ITINERARY DAY 1~ CAPE TOWN Your flight arrives in Cape Town, South Africa s Mother City where you will be met and escorted to your hotel. The provincial capital, Cape Town, is a sophisticated city with plenty to see and do, particularly around the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront area, where delightful buildings of the Cape Dutch and Victorian-era architecture have been restored as shops, restaurants, museums and pubs, while the busy water traffic of the docks goes on unabated. The Mount Nelson Hotel has always been the most famous of South Africa s hotels. At the forefront of hospitality, it is regarded as the epitome of elegance and the last word in luxury; it has long been regarded as the jewel of the Mother City. Situated in the very heart of Cape Town, it is set among seven acres of lush landscaped gardens and now boasts the largest gardens of any hotel in Cape Town. In a city dedicated to hospitality and entertainment this is no small accolade. The hotel s most recent addition is the Palm Avenue wing, which consists of four beautiful buildings Taunton House, Green Park, Helmsley and Hof Villa all set in private gardens. (Meals Aloft) DAY 2~ CAPE TOWN: CAPE PENINSULA/KIRSTENBOSCH BOTANICAL GARDENS Coast down the highway alongside quaint seaside towns, rugged shorelines, and majestic rock formations as you make your way to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. At Cape Point, rare proteas bloom vibrantly against the grasses and endemic species such as Cape grysbok, Cape mountain zebra, and Cape fox frolic nearby. Get up close to braying African jackass penguins at Boulders Beach. Next, explore the world-renowned Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, a testament to the original Dutch botanists in this area and preservation of the beautiful ecological diversity of South Africa. 3 DAY 3~ CAPE TOWN~TABLE MOUNTAIN & WINELANDS Ascend Table Mountain in a cable car and share the magnificent views with scampering hyraxes. A World Heritage Site, Table Mountain is brimming with an active and diverse bird population and boasts 1,470 plant species. Afterward, venture off on a scenic expedition to the winelands region, situated below the spectacular Boland Mountains. Here you ll discover the internationally acclaimed vineyards of Stellenbosch, Paarl, and Franschhoek on the Western Cape. Visit the estate of Boschendal, with its brilliantly preserved Cape Dutch architecture and period furniture. All the wine estates you ll visit in the region offer tastings and cellar tours and you ll enjoy lunch in one of them. Return to Cape Town in the late afternoon where your evening is free to relax or explore at your leisure. Overnight at the BELMOND MT. NELSON HOTEL. (B,L) DAYS 4/5 CAPE TOWN/OKAVANGO DELTA (BOTSWANA) Transfer to the airport and fly to Maun, where you ll catch a light aircraft to the world s largest inland water system, the Okavango Delta. Situated on the banks of the Khwai River, Belmond Khwai River Lodge overlooks the vast floodplains of the Moremi Wildlife Reserve and is known for its exceptional range of big game, including lion, hippo, and cheetah. Your days here are designed for luxury with private viewing balconies and indulgent spa services. (B,L,D Daily) DAYS 6/7/8 OKAVANGO DELTA/ SAVUTE/CHOBE NATIONAL PARK Jet via light aircraft to the Savute region of the Chobe National Park. Perched on the banks of the Savute Channel, the Savute Elephant Camp offers a spectacular birds-eye-view of elephant in their natural habitat. Prides of lion up to 40 strong prowl this wilderness, making for excellent chances of seeing them in action. Keep your cameras ready as you search for predators such as endangered wild dog, leopard, and hyena. The draw of the channel is not limited to animals. Humans have long found this

4 scenic paradise welcoming, as evidenced by the rock paintings drawn by the early San Bushmen and the spectacular Gametrackers Baobab trees. Nearby is the former Savute Marsh, which is now a dry expanse of land that plays home to the zebra migration during the months of February and October. (B,L,D Daily) DAYS 9/10 SAVUTE/VICTORIA FALLS (ZIMBABWE) Today you will connect via light aircraft to Kasane and then by road transfer your hotel in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River. Five separate cascades, plunging more than 300 feet with a thunderous roar comprise the world s largest waterfall. Enjoy a private sundowner cruise along the Zambezi River. 5 DAYS 11/12 VICTORIA FALLS/JOHANNESBURG Transfer to the airport today for your flight to Johannesburg. Your luxury hotel, the Fairlawns, is situated in the heart of Sandton. Set in an attractive, landscaped garden with an outdoor swimming pool, the hotel provides an informal atmosphere which is combined with efficient service. Next day, set out on an exciting tour of the De Wildt Cheetah and Wildlife Centre. Nestled in the foothills of the Magaliesberg Mountains, De Wildt is renowned for its breeding success of rare endangered species. While the Cheetah project was the base from which the Centre launched its conservation ethic, it soon widened to include other rare and endangered animal species such as wild dog, brown hyena, suni antelope, riverine rabbit and vultures. In the afternoon, immerse yourself in South Africa s complex history at the Mandela Family Museum, the Apartheid Museum and Hector Peterson Square. Reflect on the fight for equality as you view eye-opening photographs, artwork and exhibits with memorabilia from world leaders and scholars, and enjoy lunch in a traditional shebeen in Soweto. (B; B,L) DAYS 13/14/15 JOHANNESBURG/KRUGER NATIONAL PARK Today fly to Skukuza and transfer to Kruger National Park and your secluded and tranquil lodge, Lukimbi Safari Lodge. Safaris are conducted either on foot or in open-sided game-viewing vehicles and led by professional rangers and Shangaan trackers. The reserve is home to the great cats lion, leopard, and cheetah, as well as elephant, buffalo, black and white rhino, zebra, giraffe and a host of antelope. Night drives may afford you a glimpse of elusive nocturnal animals such as the armadillo like pangolin and African wildcat. 8 BRING-A-BOOK FOUNDATION Your safari will include a visit to a local school at New Rest in Cape Town. We encourage you to bring colorful books and magazines, as well as schools supplies such as pens, paper, crayons, soccer balls, etc., which you can present to the children during your visit. Many of these children have never owned a book in their life and the connection you ll make with them is invaluable. You ll find that children in the schools are eager to meet with visitors, practice their English, learn about your culture and proudly share their own. You are often welcomed with a local song or dance. After seeing schools first hand, meeting the dedicated teachers working under the most difficult conditions and children hungry for knowledge, many travelers have wanted to help the schools they visited or continue to support a child s learning opportunities after they return to their homes. Bring-A-Book is an innovative effort adopted by Classic Escapes to expand education opportunities for school children. The Bring-A-Book Foundation is a registered Kenyan Charitable Trust that was created as a way to facilitate travelers wishes to help the schools and is used to get books into the hands of children as quickly and economically as possible. 9 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SOUTHERN AFRICA Participants: Must be able to climb in and out of safari 4 x 4 vehicles, minibuses, small aircrafts and boats/mokoros unassisted. People need to be willing to rotate seats. Must be able to stand and/or walk moderate distances when visiting villages, towns, or other sites. This walking will be on uneven ground or uphill, often at altitudes many people are not used to. Should generally be in good health and prepared to travel in locations without medical facilities. In general, this trip requires: Flexibility and good humor unexpected changes and/or glitches will occur A spirit of adventure and curiosity Interest in and willingness to appreciate a destination with uneven infrastructure and a bending definition of comfort. That being said, some locations are nestled in absolute luxury where pampering is the norm. Air Schedules Choosing the best possible air arrangements for our travelers is always a challenge.
