4 Paddling Trail Trip Planning Overview: Forming the border between Florida and Alabama, the Perdido curves past extensive woodlands of pine, cypress and juniper cedar. Several small sloughs provide additional paddling opportunities and numerous sandbars offer ideal rest spots. The sparkling waters are often tinted with yellow or red-black tannins from swamp vegetation, depending on rainfall levels. County: Escambia Nearest town: Pensacola Total Trip length: 15.4 miles Mileage: 1. Mile 0 Fillingim Landing 2. Mile 4.3 The Pipes Landing 3. Mile 9.9 Muscogee Bridge 4. Mile 13 Interstate 10 Bridge 5. Mile 15.4 Sand Landing *The provided mileage data is approximate (rounded to the nearest 0.5 mile). Points for Muscogee Bridge and Interstate 10 Bridge are provided as navigational markers; there is no public access. Difficulty: Easy Skill level: Beginner Trip Recommendation: For a day trip with scenic beauty and little development, you can t beat paddling from Fillingim Landing to The Pipes Landing. The river is narrow, swift, and winding and there are numerous sandbars available for a picnic or swim. Little paddling is necessary; mostly steering. From the Pipes Landing to Sand Landing, the river is still scenic, although it becomes wider and much slower, with fewer sandbars. More paddling is necessary. Access Points: Access Point 1 Put-in: Fillingim Landing Nearest city: Pensacola Distance from access point: 23.5 miles From I-10, travel north on US 29 (exit 10) about 13.5 miles. Turn left (west) on CR- 196 and travel 3 miles to a crossroad marked by a church. Turn left (south) on CR 97 and travel less than a half mile. Turn right at Fillingim Landing Road and travel about a quarter of a mile to the river. The launch site is a series of wide steps leading to the water. Access Point 2 Put-in: The Pipes Landing Nearest city: Pensacola Distance from access point: 21 miles

5 From I-10, travel north on US 29 (exit 10) about 8 miles to Cantonment traffic signal at County Road 84 (Muscogee Road). Turn left (West) for 2.6 miles to County Road 97, Jack s Branch Road, and travel northwest on Jack s Branch Road (Muscogee curves to the left). Travel 3 miles and take a left onto Old Bridge Road. It is a neighborhood street. Go to the end of Old Bridge Road and take the dirt road to the river. It is a total of 1.1 miles from Jack s Branch Road to the river. The launch site is a natural sand bank. Customers of Adventures Unlimited outfitters can take out at their business location on the river 2 miles below The Pipes Landing. See contact info below. Driving distance from Fillingim Landing to the Pipes Landing: 4 miles. From Fillingim Landing Road, travel south on Jack s Branch Road (CR 97) about 3 miles and turn right onto Old Bridge Road. It is a neighborhood street. Go to the end of Old Bridge Road and take the dirt road to the river. It is a total of 1.1 miles from Jack s Branch Road to the river. There may be a large water-filled dip in the road near the river, although it has a gravel bottom. Access Point 5 Take-out: Sand Landing Nearest City: Pensacola Distance to access point: 19 miles Directions to access point: I-10 West out of Pensacola to Alt US90/SR10 (Exit 5). Take Alt US90/SR10 west which merges into US90 just west of the town of Beulah. Take US90 west to Sand Landing Road and take a right (north). Travel about a mile and take a left at the sign for the landing. Note: The unpaved Sand Landing Road off Highway 90 may be missing a street sign, so look for a Wildlife Management Area sign just past the weigh station and power lines on the right. This is the entrance to the road. Ruby s Fish Camp near the Highway 90 Bridge is also a possible take-out point, about 2 miles below Sand Landing. There is a fee. Driving distance from the Pipes Landing to Sand Landing: 20 miles. From the Pipes Landing, return to Jack s Branch Road (C.R. 97) and travel southeast about 10 miles until it runs into Alt US 90/SR10. Take Alt US90/SR10 west which merges into US90 just west of the town of Beulah. Take US90 west about 7.5 miles to Sand Landing Road and take a right (north). Travel about a mile and take a left at the sign for the landing.
