5 Town of Nokiidaa Trail - South Sheppard s Bush Conservation Area is a 26.2 hectare green space in an urban setting in, owned by the Ontario Heritage Trust and managed by the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority. This property was donated to the Province in 1971 by Reginald Sheppard, who wanted to ensure the property and its natural environment were preserved for future generations of Canadians. Vandorf Woodlot is located in the valley of the Holland River, between Sheppard s Bush and Vandorf Sideroad. The main trail is known as the Klaus Wehrenberg Trail, named after a local resident for his dedication to trail development and promotion in the Town. Discover the Woodlot s beautiful old growth characteristics, such as a multilayered canopy, rich variety of species, and fallen trees, as well as the pileated woodpeckers creating their elongated holes in the large standing snags. Stream springs, upwelling areas and trout spawns in the gravel bed can be seen in the Holland River. Follow the unmarked side trail in the southern half of the Woodlot, west of the stream, to see what you can find! Sheppard s Bush has five kilometres of hiking trails, 13 soccer fields, two picnic pavilions and several historic buildings including the original Sheppard family home built in the early 1920s. The majority of the property is forested and includes mature pine plantations, mixed forest, an old sugar bush and a ravine along the East Holland River. 10 Trail difficulty: Easy-Moderate Distance: 4.5 km (15 km total trail system) Access points: Via Industry Street, which extends south form Wellington Street E. in and off industrial way South just north of Cousins ive For more information: Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Area lsrca.on.ca
