2 Page Two Saint Bernard Church January 15, nd Sunday Ordinary Time ~ The power of God abounds in the readings of today. First, Isaiah speaks of the servant through whom the glory of God is shown. God forms his servant from the womb and God s strength is revealed through him. Through him the relationship of Israel and Jacob is restored with God. You will be a light to the nations. Then Paul speaks of being called to be apostle, called to holiness, and one who now calls upon the name of the Lord. The Gospel highlights John the Baptist who recognizes and proclaims that: Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world ; Jesus is the one who pre-existed; Jesus is the one to be proclaimed to Israel; Jesus is the one on whom the Spirit rests; Jesus is the Son of God. Through these Scriptures, God s power bursts forth as he calls and sanctifies and sends and strengthens and forms and gives light and redeems. Who are the recipients of this power of God? They are Jesus, and Isaiah, and Paul and you and I indeed, all of the baptized. As we come back to Ordinary Time in the church year, we are called to see that the extraordinary power of God becomes ordinary every day in our lives. God wishes to love us and empower us and to bring his love into the world through us. We are true apostles and true servants and true sons and daughters of God. God does not hold back. He gives to us the greatest dignity in our call and in our baptismal faith. His will is that peace and justice and love will reign in his kingdom and he invites us to be the instruments to bring it about. Our greatest and simplest response might be the refrain of the responsorial psalm today: Here am I, Lord, I come to do your will. Fr. Primero, Isaías habla del siervo a través del cual se muestra la gloria de Dios. Dios forma a su siervo desde el vientre y el poder de Dios se revela a través de él. Después Pablo habla del llamado a ser apóstoles, llamado a la santidad, y que ahora invoca el nombre del Señor. El Evangelio destaca a Juan el Bautista que reconoce y proclama que "Jesús es el Cordero de Dios que quita los pecados del mundo"; Jesús es el que preexistió; Jesús es el que ha de proclamarse a Israel; Jesús es aquel en quien reposa el Espíritu; Jesús es el Hijo de Dios. A través de estas Escrituras, el poder de Dios estalla al llamar, al santificar, al envíar, al fortalecer, al formar, dar luz y redimir. Quiénes son los receptores de este poder de Dios? Ellos son Jesús, Isaías, Pablo, tú y yo indudablemente, todos los bautizados. Al volver al Tiempo Ordinario en el año de la iglesia, estamos llamados a ver que el poder extraordinario de Dios se vuelve ordinario todos los días en nuestras vidas. Dios quiere amarnos y darnos poder y traer su amor al mundo a través de nosotros. Somos verdaderos apóstoles, verdaderos siervos y verdaderos hijos e hijas de Dios. Dios no se reprime. Él nos da la mayor dignidad en nuestro llamado y en nuestra fe bautismal. Su voluntad es que la paz, la justicia y el amor reinen en su reino y nos invita a ser los instrumentos para llevarlo a cabo. Nuestra respuesta más grande y más simple podría ser el refrán del salmo responsorial de hoy: "Aquí estoy, Señor, para hacer tu voluntad".
