1 AUSTIN AREA CAR CLUB S Information Station Visit our website: O CT., 2009 President s Message: Well after a hot summer, we finally get some rain. And typical of Texas weather, it's a long drought and then near flooding. After the deluge we had two years ago I lost my bottom pond, got it repaired and it has been dry for two years until last night. Now in one evening it's running over. Only in Texas. I'm glad the drought is coming to an end. And now that the year is coming to an end ( two more meetings and then the Christmas dance in December) we have to think about electing officers for next year. Get your thinking caps on and nominate someone, or better yet, volunteer yourself. New blood is always welcome and we hope to see some volunteers at the next meeting on the 11th of Oct. See ya'll there!! Billy The October meeting will be at the El Patron Mexican Food Restaurant located at 603 West University Ave in Georgetown. We have arranged to have Beef and Chicken Fajitas with all of the trimmings. El Patron is across the street from the car wash on University Ave which is across a side street from Auto Zone, hope to see every one there, I made arrangements for 25 with the option to increase if necessary. NOTE: All calls and s will be to Ruth Fredericksen see below AACC MEETING: Oct 11, 2009 GEORGETOWN PARKS & RECREATION BLDG EAT AT 1:00 P.M. $5.00 co-pay RSVP: to Ruth or r2fred@suddenlink.com BY:Oct 09 El Patron Mexican Food Restaurant, 603 West University Ave Georgetown

2 PAGE 2 September meeting minutes: Billy Hutson called the September meeting to order. He asked if any one would volunteer to take the meeting minutes, no one volunteered. Jim Curl reluctantly agreed to do the deed. Billy asked if there were additions or corrections of the minutes of the August meeting as published in the news letter, there was none and Dennis Springer made a motion to except the minutes as publish, they were accepted. Mary Lou Smith read the treasures report provided by Ruth Fredericksen. Lyndon Stearns made a motion to approve the treasurer s report. Steve Koehn gave the Pate report: The Pate board was to have a meeting the week following our club meeting and he would report on it at our next meeting. Sunshine Report it was mentioned that Bruce Stokes mother in law fell and hurt herself seriously. New Business: October Fest in Jonestown 12 PM to 4 PM, Billy asked if anyone who could help park cars do so. Jerry Horton asked about getting caps with the club logo on them for the club members. Steve is going to check about price and feasibility. Old Business: Burnet car show, Billy gave a report on the Burnet car show, which was curtailed by the rainy weather. They were expecting 1000 cars and only had about 100 because of the weather. Rodger Gunter gave a report on a Chevy 409 event he and Joyce along with Wayne Clawson attended in Ohio. The club talked about reinstalling the car of the month award at each meeting. It would be for one of the old cars that were driven to the meeting. Buck Jones presented flyers and talked about the Jarrell car show on September the 26 th at the Jarrell High School. Dennis Springer made a motion to adjourn and Tom Moore seconded the motion and it carried. The October meeting will be at the El Patron Mexican Food Restaurant located at 603 West University Ave in Georgetown. We have arranged to have Beef and Chicken Fajitas with all of the trimmings. El Patron is across the street from the car wash on University Ave which is across a side street from Auto Zone, hope to see every one there, I made arrangements for 25 with the option to increase if necessary. 6 If GM had keep up with Technology If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25.00 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon.' In response to Bill's comments, General Motors issued a press release stating: If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics: 1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash twice a day. 2. Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to buy a new car. 3. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would have to pull to the side of the road, close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could continue. For some reason you would simply accept this. 4. Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine. 5. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive - but would run on only five percent of the roads. 6. The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all be replaced by a single 'This Car Has Performed An Illegal Operation' warning light. 7. The airbag system would ask 'Are you sure?' before deploying. 8. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna. 9. Every time a new car was introduced car buyers would have to learn how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car. 10. You'd have to press the 'Start' button to turn the engine off.
