Some of you may already be aware of this useful program - It will enable you to view all our photos, past and present by simply clicking the link of the ride you are interested in. Once on the web album, you will be able to view a slide show of the photos, download them to your own computer, share them with friends via and print them if you wish. If you have any problems viewing these, please do not hesitate to contact me at jujubabyfr@gmail.com. Also if you have photos you would like posted on the web, please let me have them via , CD or USB drive (I will return it to you) and I will post them as soon as possible. Also, if you have (or set up) a Picasa account, you could upload your pictures and send Julie the link. Treasurer s Message: Some members have been using PayPal to pay for upcoming events. This works well if you have a PayPal account set up. You just Send Money to jrichrd@cwaveisp.net along with a note or telling me what it is for. There is a small fee (much like using a credit card) for the transaction but for the time being, the Corral will pick this up. Let me know if you have any questions. Credit goes to Terry Kenney (aka TK) for coming up with this!! General Meeting Our next general meeting will be held on May 21 tst at Mi Casitas in Sunland. Every time John goes away, the whole place falls apart! Chuck DuBay had back surgery and is doing wonderful!! He can finally stand straight!! I m sure they will be camping with us soon.

HORSIN AROUND Page 4 Bert s 99th Birthday Ride What a HOOT! Go Bert, Go Bert!! We ll all be there to join you for your 100th Birthday Ride! We love ya Bert!! Fox News was there to see us off on Bert s Ride. Thank you so much to Christine for televising this spectular event. One correction, It s Bert Bonnett instead of Bert Bonner. However, we do thank you for the publicity. Around fifty riders followed Bert out on the trail. Now just because he is 99 n holdin doesn t mean it s going to be an easy ride. No Sir! Bert put us through our paces and the horses really worked up a sweat! We rode back to Gabriallano Park and enjoyed a delicious pot luck lunch put on by Corral 20. Great Job!! Thank you on behalf of Corral 22!!

HORSIN AROUND Placerita Canyon Ride The Placerita Canyon ride was beautiful, fun and ended with some excitement. Ten riders enjoyed the beautiful 75 degree weather and some breathtaking scenery. We rode the Canyon Trail to Walker Ranch then rode about 2000 feet up the Los Pinetos Trail and had lunch at the top of the ridge. After lunch we rode down the firebreak overlooking the Santa Clarita Valley. The wind picked up down the mountain so we took a detour down the, slightly technical, Manzanita Mountain Trail. About 50 yards from the trailhead, Mary Timmer s horse, Scout, slipped while crossing the bridge and went down. Luckily, Mary was able to get free without injury. However, Scout s front hooves and right rear hoof were pinned between the bridge railing and the bridge tread. Scout stayed calm as everyone, including a passersby, that worked to help free him. He suffered some scrapes to his pasterns, but otherwise appeared to be fine. Special thanks to Kelli Land and Patty Hug who helped pre-ride and Paul Anderson, Tiffanie Bailey, King Davis, and Paul Jacques who helped free Scout. Kathleen Ungamrung Page 5

HORSIN AROUND Day At The Races On March 20 I called Santa Anita and told them I wanted to cancel our reservation for April 19 (I had only 10 people and had to guarantee 70). I was told I was a day late and could not cancel. A few days before the event I called to give them a head count for the food. I got a real shock when they told me they had canceled our reservation. Seems they decided since I was only a day late they went ahead with the cancellation. Trouble was nobody bothered to call me! They had taken a reservation for our area from another group so they did some scrambling and gave us another location. It wasn't as nice but we were closer to the horses and the food was really good. Everybody had a good time but I don't think any of us came home any richer. Gwen Page 6

Page 7 Dinner Progressive Ride (May 9th) Ride LEAVES at 11:00AM. You can arrive anytime, even Friday evening if you like. Please let Sharon know if you will be spending Friday night. From the Santa Clarita Valley, follow Route 14 towards Palmdale and exit at Agua Dulce Canyon Road. Turn left and follow Agua Dulce Canyon Road north under the freeway through Agua Dulce to Sierra Highway. Turn right (east) on Sierra Highway and a short distance past the Peppertree Market (on your left across Sierra Hwy from winery) turn left onto Wyse Road. Follow Wyse Road until it becomes dirt then turn right onto Hierba will be about a mile east on Hierba on your left. From Palmdale, exit Route 14 at the first exit past (west) of Crown Valley Road. When you stop, turn left onto Sierra Highway. Follow Sierra Highway (bear right at first intersection or you ll be back on the freeway) over Boiling Point, past Fire Station 81 (on your left) to Wyse Road and turn right. The right turn for Wyse Road will be where the passing lane on Sierra Hwy ends. Proceed to 8907 as above. Mt. Waterman (May 17th) I have not had time to pre-ride yet (snow just melted) but will try to get up there in the next couple weeks. We will stage at a turn-out/paved parking lot with bathrooms on the right side of the road just past Three Points. Should be about a six hour ride with steep terrain so horses should be fit, surefooted, and shod. There will be one water stop approximately half way and right before the lunch stop. This will be the same ride that Patty Hug did with the Blazers last year. If people don't want to ride so long, another option is staging at Three Points or Bandido (if we can get in for a day ride) and just ride to Newcombs for lunch and back. Please let Tiffanie know what you would like to do. Phone: (818) MTPocketsRanch1@aol.com Tiff Corral 138 Extreme Cowboy Race On June 6, The new Corral 138, Barrel Springs Riders are putting on an Extreme Cowboy Race at the Barrel Springs Arena in Palmdale. Sorta, it will be simpler, safer, not sanctioned by Craig Cameron, cheaper, more like a play day. We're calling it the Wild West Challenge. Our Corral 138 board member Lisa and Trish competed in the one recently at Vincent Arena. Contact Trish at Carpediemfarm@aol.com for more info. There are trails nearby to ride while watching or waiting for your turn.
