2 October 2014 Page 2 Hi Everyone, As you know by now I lost Magic my Foxtrotter who died Friday September 19 th at the age of 31. Thank you so much for all the wonderful s. It made the grief I was suffering easier. It was nice to hear from everyone and to be able to share their stories of loosing their beloved horses and mules. We love these animals so much and it is so sad when we have to say goodbye. Everyone tells me to remember the good times we had together. I ll do just that. Thank you again. On September 12 th we had our Trail Plan Meeting at the beautiful home of the Dohmen s. Fifteen members joined us and together we brainstormed and came up with an exciting 2015 Ride Schedule!! October we re camping at Mojave Narrows. This is a first time for us and we re really looking forward to this. Billie McGuire will be your Trail Boss. Billie says it is a beautiful place to ride with water, cottonwoods and cat tails. The flyer is in this Bulletin. The price is $50 for the weekend. C22 does not make any money on this ride. I am taking reservations, so please send me your check, along with your reservation. October is a campout ride at The Gipson s Ranch! This will be a Memorial Ride for Sandy Hendricks. The ride will be held in Acton and we will be riding new trails! The cost is only $ This includes a delicious Italian dinner. Don t forget to bring your chairs and a big appetite! I hear the food is delicious. The flyer is in this bulletin. 3 October 2014 Page 3 WHAT S NEW IN 22 Illnesses: Doran Sharff is doing better and showed up at our Trail Plan Meeting! Gusie s husband I hear is doing better. Losses: Sharon s Magic died Sept 19th BRAGS: Gerry Onstott is back to riding! He showed up in Morro Bay and is styling in a beautiful black, new saddle. He rode, went out to eat and had a great time. So wonderful to see him! Bill Pollard was named Member of the year for his outstanding service to ETI Corral 22. Thank you ever so much Bill for all your hard work! Especially with the Silent Auction held September 27 th. Paul Jacques is now riding a beautiful black and white Paint mare named Inca! She is a beauty! Chuck and Susan Dubay have a cute new Australian Shepherd puppy named Zepher! Boy oh boy, do they have their hands full with this active pup! What a cutie! Gerry Onstott General Meeting Our General Meeting will be Thursday, October 16th. The location will be at; Mi Casitas 8069 Foothill Blvd; Sunland Dinner at 6PM. 4 October 2014 Page 4 HIT THE TRAIL October 10-12th / Mojave Narrows Ride / flyer page 9 October 18th-19th / Sandy Hendricks Memeoral Ride / Gibson Ranch / flyer page 10 November 3 7th / ETI Death Valley Ride 2015 Ride Schedule Page 11 News update Hazard Peak Problem in Montana de Oro Meeting held on at Hazard Horse Campground at 3:PM We had a meeting with the California Start Parks Coastal Sector Superintendent San Louis Obispo Coast district Brook Gutierrez along with Vince Cicerro about the very narrow blind trail on Hazard Peak. The word spread that this meeting was going to take place and over a dozen people showed up for it. Apparently my complaint about the trail spread to the Coast Mounted Assistant Unite who thanked me and said they were in total agreement with me! Yes! Someone agreed with me! To reiterate, a cable had closed off the trail we have been using for over forty years. The reason for the closure was because they found fossils on the trail. So they put in a new trail, which is dangerous, narrow, and on a blind curve. It s only a matter of time before some one gets hurt. We were told they would not take down the cable. We have to fix the existing trail. Options: (1) Widen line of site with peeler poles (2) Labor by hand or bring in trail machinery at the cost of $13,000 or $15,000. Also discussed, was leveling the camp ground better so we can have level places to park. Placing 5 mile an hour signs to slow drivers down and also Smokey the Bears signs to make sure all campfires are put out. The manure removal is costly. It costs around $1800 each time to remove it! Brooke asked us to please get some input from other parks and find out how they remove their manure. As you can see we have a lot to discuss. We ll be working on these questions very soon. The Coast Mounted Assistance Group is very willing to work with us. Stay tuned because I ll be asking for your ideas and will be working with Brooke Gutierrez, who happens to be very nice to work with and very helpful. She is also a great communicator and gets back with me right away. You know how I like to communicate. Sharon

5 October 2014 Page 5 Horsing around Morro Bay 2014 Our Morro Bay Ride was very successful! A special thanks goes to Craig and Cindy Tognazzini and Patty Hug and Jim Renze for securing the reservations for Morro Bay. This is very difficult maneuver. Every year I have a nervous breakdown when we do this. It s like a land grab, except it s more dramatic. And thanks to these members we were able to go again this year. I have to tell you about the events that John and I incurred while going into Madrone Campground. (1) We were late three hours entering Madrone because some poor woman couldn t get her horse loaded. (2) John backed the horse trailer in and in doing so tipped over the solar panel, which set off the fire extinguisher. He didn t tell me until we got the motor home leveled. I opened the door and found yellow substance all over the carpet. I found my cat hiding under the chair covered in this stuff. I grabbed her and thought she was dead. I dusted her off outside and she was still alive. I went for a short ride with Gerry and told John not to use my vacuum. He would burn it up; instead we would go into town and by a shop vac when I got back. (3) We got back from our ride and I smelled something burning. Yep! John burned up the vacuum. Got a new shop vac and John told me to go ride and he would clean up the mess. Got back and I asked John, did you clean out the shop vac? Yes he did, so I went to go vacuum Gracie the cat on the bed. (4) The shop vac didn t work, so I called John. He told me to put the hose in the other end. Well now all this yellow stuff has blown all over the bed and my clothes. It was the blower part of the vacuum(5) Next we lost keys to the motorhome! (6) Next we lost the extra keys to the motor home! (Now we can t find the car keys!) All I wanted to do was go back home. However, we don t have any keys! We went to bed very disgruntled. The next morning I searched the car for the keys. I found some! However they were car keys that had been lost for seven years! From then on, our luck turned around. All keys were found and we stayed in Hazard Horse Camp and had a great time! Mary and Brian Johnson came all the way from Las Vegas to camp with us. The other members that joined us were Heidi Furer, Lori Morris and her lovely mother Hope. Bari Bonnett, Jane Lewis, Joyce Frazier, Paul and Charleen Auerbach, Gerry Onstott, Max Schetter, Paul Jacques, Pam Patterson, Bob and Elaine Macdonald, Tawna Born, Josef and Antoinette Dohmen, Tom and Jeanne Hill, Bill and Wilma Bartlett, Steve and Danielle Fox camped with us at Hazard Horsecamp! We had a few members become ill for a few days, aside from that we all had a great time. We enjoyed riding the trails, eating out and had a very delicious potluck along with fire. It s such a blessing to ride at Morro Bay, especially along the ocean. Happy Trails, Sharon

You MUST arrive at the Park before 4:30PM on Friday, October 10th; Gate opens at 7:30AM Saturday morning. Departure time is 1:00PM or earlier on Sunday, October 12th.
