3 President s Ramblings Vicki and Joe Morgan did an excellent job of being our chair people for our 2018 Fall Tour, and I wish to thank them and all of our workers that helped make our fantastic fall tour possible. At our last business meeting and Halloween pot luck dinner on October 27th, we had 51 people attend our party. That was one outstanding SS/HCCA attendance record! Donna McGinnis did an excellent job of recording our minutes and listing everyone s name that attended. Our weather was all day sunshine and there were some nice old cars in attendance too. Our 2019 Officer nominations went well with all of the positions spoken for, but if you didn t get nominated and you wanted to be, don t despair, nominations will be opened up once again at our December 8 th Christmas dinner/meeting which will be held at the Buzz In near the Arlington airport. The evening of October 14 th, Donna and Mike McGinnis graciously hosted our well attended annual S/S HCCA board of directors meeting. Plenty of cookies, candies, and pastries were provided by Donna for our partaking. Discussed was that we will have available three board of director openings for the years 2019 & We would like to have some new people filling these prestigious positions. Please let your voices be heard at our December business meeting. Also discussed was our 2019 S/S HCCA Fall Tour. We are searching for a venue that is located closer to our Skagit/Snohomish area and we need ideas and volunteers to help make this happen President Elect Harold Musolf III is spear heading our search of the different possibilities. Our Board of Directors established the 2019 Fall Tour dates as being Sunday September 8 th through Thursday, September 12 th Please reserve these date on your 2019 tour calendar. With my recent Chemotherapy treatment, my health has greatly improved. I can now swallow solid foods once again. Thank you for all of the wonderful cards, prayers and kind thoughts that I have received during my difficult time while fighting my esophageal and stomach cancer. See you all at the December 8 th Christmas Party. SSsssteamer President Pat Farrell 2018 Calendar Please submit calendar updates to Tom Brethauer promptly, as future planning depends on this information. 4 SKAGIT-SNOHOMISH REGIONAL HCCA August 18 th, 2018 MEETING MINUTES The meeting was called to order at 12:55 PM by President Pat Farrell at Farrell's Unique Museum in Sedro Woolley. Members in attendance included John Anderson, Tom Brethauer, Benny Cassel, Fred and Penny Cruger, Joe and Colleen Davies, Dave and Elaine Ellis, Pat and Merrily Farrell, Larry and Aurore Fickeisen, Ken and Chris Findlay, Rick Gilmore, Les Gitts, Bill and Rob Graham, Steve and Phyllis Hammatt, Dennis and Mary Hood, Robb Johnson, Ray and Vicki Markley, Mike and Carolyn Martin, Mike and Donna McGinnis, Howard Musolf and Candy Johns, Wayne and Cathie Musselman, Darrell and Jeannine Pitts, Steve Schmidt, Scot Taylor, and Mike and Marcia Yeakel. Guests included Ray Emling, Dan Findlay, Ken Kelly, Nels and Amber Lagerlund, Art and Jenny Reichlin, Frank Reichlin, Chris Ross, Ron Royer and Julie Rosario ( the good witch, alias the Farrell's daughter.) Obviously, Pat and Merrily broke our club's record with 51 people in attendance, and we wish to thank them not only for the meeting location but also for the inspiration they provided for all of us! President Pat had the 11 guests introduce themselves, and then gave a big thank you for those who helped decorate and provided the delicious food for the pot luck. MINUTES: A motion was made by Elaine Ellis to approve the minutes as printed in the newsletter. The motion was seconded by Donna McGinnis (for Vicki Markley who wrote them) and was passed. TREASURER'S REPORT: Report was given by Vicki Markley who said the club is solvent; both the tour portion and the basic treasury. SUNSHINE REPORT: Chairperson Elaine Ellis would like everyone who knows of any club member who needs a card to please call her with the information. OLD BUSINESS: The 2018 Regional Tour is successfully completed, and now it is time to plan for next year's tour. At this time, there were no volunteers ready to take on the leadership. The Silverdale area was suggested; Ray Markley did volunteer to check with the Portland HCCA about a possible combining of talent and helpers for a tour like the one that group is planning for Bainbridge Island in July. Another idea presented was perhaps a tour by Lake Chelan; finding an adequate motel would be the challenge, according to Larry Fickeisen. The December meeting place was discussed. Candy Johns announced that the location has been changed. It will be at the Arlington Buzz Inn (at nd St. NE in Arlington - just south of the airport.) The date is the same: December 8, Donna McGinnis brought the few extra rosters for anyone who wished to have an extra. NEW BUSINESS: President Pat Farrell opened nominations for officers, starting with the president's position. Harold Muoslf III has volunteered to take the helm again; Ray Markley volunteered to remain as Vice President; Vicki Markley was enthusiastically asked to continue as Treasurer; and Steve Schmidt was nominated to take Donna McGinnis's place since she has too many conflicts to continue. Further nominations may be made at the December meeting, and the vote will be taken then. Mike Yeakel with help from Tom Brethauer and Scot Taylor gave a report about the Hershey Swap Meet. They actually attended the swap meet, and Mike and Tom hit antique stores in the area as well as traveled through Amish country, a great old Ford dealership which had many cars (old and new), and to Jim Grundy's business where he keeps some cars. The weather was acceptable except on Thursday, and after the car show, they found themselves behind in time to get to the airport for the flight home so drove 85 mph to get there in time. Seems like they were enjoying their ice cream, though.
5 When Pat became too tired, Elaine Ellis continued with the last few minutes of the meeting, reviewing the information about next year's 1 and 2 Cylinder KISS Tour on Thursday, June 19 to Saturday, June 22, Preliminary plans include visits to the Yamhill County Heritage Center Museum, the NW Vintage Car & Motorcycle Museum, a cheese factory, two private car collections in Cornelius and Lafayette, Oregon, and an optional tour on Saturday to the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum; Kelly and Sally Bledsoe are the chairmen. Facebook Page: Keep in mind we have a club facebook page. Visit it here /about/ join up and contribute by posting photos and adding updates when you have the urge. Dan Findlay told about an interesting tour that he and Samantha will be leading in the Selkirk mountain area, so watch for notices about that. Gas with no ethanol is available at the Indian Smoke Shop on Hwy 530. It also can be found at the Coop in the town of Snohomish. (Remember, the government has just given permission for the ethanol level to be raised to 15% from the present 10%.) There is no November meeting, so plan to attend the Christmas Party instead; December 8, Arlington's Buzz Inn. ADJOURNMENT: Carolyn Martin moved to adjourn the meeting. Seconded by Dan Findlay (and a couple of other voices.) Meeting was adjourned at 1:25 PM. Participants helped clean up and store the tables and chairs so that it was not left for Pat and Merrily to do. Cool Coastal Byways Tour Many thanks for contributions to the writing and photos for this by many members, most notably Steve Schmidt for photos and Joe and Vicki Morgan for commentary. Monday, Sept. 10, was registration day and a short tour around the Bay and back to the Mill Casino Hotel tour headquarters. Dinner that evening was held at the Black Market Gourmet with good food and entertainment. Christmas Party and Business Meeting Our next meeting will be at our annual Christmas party on December 8, Please note that the venue has changed and will now be at the Buzz Inn Steakhouse in Arlington. The address is: nd St NE, Arlington, WA From I-5, take the Smokey Point exit (172 nd St. N.E./SR 531) east toward Arlington. The restaurant will be on the right, just after 51 st St. N.E., across from the airport. The greeting crew included a rather sedate Gregory the Ape, and, to make up for his lethargic ways, Elaine Ellis and Vicki Markley were all smiles.
6 ladies had their annual craft night. The men held a small swap meet out in the parking lot. Friday, Sept 14, we traveled a short distance south to the botanical gardens at Shore Acres and wonderful views of the ocean. A final lunch on our own in Charleston and then farewells were shared as we departed for home. Harold and Gayle Musolf standing beside their 1913 Cadillac touring. Wednesday, Sept. 12, cars headed north to Reedsport and Winchester Bay. Had a delicious coffee stop at a local church in Reedsport and then enjoyed the Umpqua Discovery Center and other points of interest in Reedsport.
