FMCA --- Lewis & Clark Thousand Trails Busy Bee Newsletter - Volume 3 September 2012 President - Roger Beausoleil Vice President - Andy Andersen Secretary Schar Olsen Roster Manager Susan Rasmussen Treasurer Russ Watkins National Director Janel Burger Alt. Natl. Dir. Larry Rasmussen Wagon Master Sherry Cederlind Newsletter Editor Becky Everson Badge Maker Roger Epps PRESIDENT S CORNER Roger & Nancy Beausoleil As we head into fall and one last rally left for 2012, many of us are planning to head south. The rallies at La Conner, Leavenworth and Bend / Sun River were well attended and the food and games continue to just get better. We have four new members that have opted to join in the fun and friendship of our club, the new members are: Keith & Mary Fisher, of Sedro Woolly, WA Ove & Linda Jakobsen, of Madison, Alabama Robert & Penny Williams-Young, ofbeverton, OR Dan & Suzanne Harris, of Portland, OR A BIG WELCOME to our new members. At the Bend / Sun River rally, we set the rally schedule for 2013 as follows: DATES LOCATION HOSTS APRIL (Fri-Sun) SEASIDE, OREGON MAY (Tue-Fri) PARADISE, WA Nellie Graves, Rick and Iris JUNE (Mon-Thurs) LEVENWORTH, WA No Host JULY (Wed-Sun) LA CONNER, WA 1

AUG 8-11 (Thurs-Sun) ALBANY AUG (Sun- Wed) WHALERS REST, OR SEPT (Fri-Mon) SUNRIVER/BEND, OR OCT (Fri-Mon) SEASIDE, OR No Host Board members Jerry & Gail McMurtrey, Phil & Mary Norstrom Ken & Mary Jo Ayers Roger & Nancy had a busy spring and summer. We put our house up for sale on May9th and it was sold on July the 11 th. We had a target date of August 20 th or so to close and move into our new home, but things took longer than expected and we didn t get into our new home until September 16.. As a result of the delay, we didn t make it to the September rally until the 18,th. At this time we are still working on emptying all the boxes and trying to find a lot of things that have seemed be in hiding. We have a new mailing address, it is PO Box Keizer, OR If you want to come visit us, we can be found at: 3920 Rivercrest Drive N Keizer, OR Looking forward to seeing you at the Seaside rally and/or down south this winter. Russ & Kay Watkins We have enjoyed attending each L@C Rally this year but had to miss the Leavenworth Rally last month as we went on a 14 day Alaska Cruise-Tour. We were very fortunate that Kay's broken arm has been healing well so she could enjoy the trip and we had great weather that really made it a special time. We had smooth water every day we were on the ship so it was a nice cruise and we had some great land tours including one to the Mendenhall Glacier near Juneau and a full day trip into Denali NP. We were lucky to have a very clear day to at Denali NP to see Mt McKinley which is the tallest peak in North America at 20,300 feet in elevation. It was very impressive and we took lots of pictures. The La Conner Rally & Crabfest was really enjoyable thanks to all the work by hosts and the Rasmussen s and their crab crew. We're looking forward to seeing those of you that will be at the Bend-Sunriver and Seaside Rally s. 2

Wanda & Charley Donati We left Oregon on August 22nd and stopped at Minden Lake, at Nicholas, CA. We spent the night and drove on to San Luis Obispo. We stopped at Kettleman City for diesel. Each station had diesel listed for $4.799, but down at the end of the road, there was a Valero s Station and diesel was $ All the trucks stopped there and of course that is where we filled up. Onto to San Luis Obispo for Charley s 57th class reunion with Happy Hour and visiting on Friday night at the Embassy Suites. Saturday was a wonderful dinner at Embassy Suits and lots of visiting and storytelling. Then we attend a nice picnic on Sunday afternoon. We were able to visit family and friends while in the area and then left for San Jose on Wednesday, the 29th. We checked into the Fremont ELKS Club and we had an early dinner with Junior High School friends of Wanda s in San Jose on the 30th. Then back to Minden Lake on the 31st. We visited family in Vacaville and also in Sacramento and rested, then drove on home to Cottage Grove on Tuesday, Sept. 4th. We had a wonderful trip and always good to be back home. Wanda is scheduled for back surgery on November 5th, so we will be very late in going south this year. Brent & Marilyn Wisely The winter luncheons for L&C-TT will again be held at the Miracle Springs Spa Resort, N. Palm Dr., Desert Hot Springs, CA The luncheons will be every Monday at 11:30 starting November 19th and ending April 15th, There will be no luncheon on Monday, Dec. 24th, If you are in the Palm Springs area during this time, please join us. Please RVSP to Marilyn either by or phone. Brent & Marilyn... God Bless You wiselybw@yahoo.com Scott & Lois Siler ONCE again it's time to get ready and wing our way South for the winter to flee the rain and snow to parts known and unknown. Oh, the things we will see, we can hardly wait. The Grand Canyon train trip, the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta and all of Texas for the Winter. The town of Canton has the World s largest flea market, even bigger than Quartsite. You can spend days there and never see everything we have been told, sounds like fun. We have been visiting Presidential Libraries around the country, and plan to visit President GW Bush at College Station, TX and go to Little Rock, Arkansas to visit President 3

Clinton's library.if you are interested in history, you will find these libraries very interesting. We would like to thank those who came to the La Conner Rally, all 74 of you folks. We all had a great time, and a special thanks for Bill Rasmussen and fellow Crabby fisherman and all those who made this a great rally. You can follow us in facebook (Thomas Siler) and in the Lewis and Clark locater site. Rvtravler's - Scott and Lois Siler Daryl and Janell Johnson In July we spent a week at Detroit Lake campground with family and church family and had perfect weather. At age 83 Daryl got on the saucer and stayed on for quite a while but it was too rough to be able to stand up on it. It brought back memories of the days when Ardell drove the boat and Daryl helped many learn how to ski on this lake. Our last mini vacation was at South Jetty campground over Labor Day. We had great weather there also. We will be attending Bend Rally and hope to see many of you there Our prayers continue to go out to those members who have health problems. Our schedule for our trip south has been made and some reservations are made. We plan to be at Wilderness Lakes from Dec. 3l through Jan. 8. From Jan at Southwestern Rally. Jan , TT Palm Springs, Quartsite Jan , Feb El Prado Estates in Yuma, March 1-14 Countryside at Apache Junction and then on to Las Vegas March and then going home through Reno and Klamath Falls. We are looking forward to seeing many of our Lewis & Clark friends at these places. 4

Janel Burger; National Director Report The Bend board rally is in the books we had tri-tip, baked potato, coleslaw and pie everyone loved the meal. 58 people were in attendance. Thanks to all the board for the great help Now on to the FMCA report. The Governing Board met on Monday, August 27, 2012 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Treasure, Will Young reported our investments are providing positive returns and increase in market value. The present value of our investments is approximately $7.2 million. FMCAssist is de-funding. On Call is currently supplying this benefit and have chosen not to do business with us after September 30, The Governing Board, after much discussion, voted for a member Purchased Plan at a cost to the members of $105 per year for a couple or $85 per year for a single. More information on this will be in the FMCA October Magazine or online at The proposal for allowing towables was voted down. Membership is declining, this year we lost 2606 at this time, we have a total of 83,183 members. The next convention will be the 88th Family Reunion & Motorhome Showcase, celebrating the 50th Anniversary of FMCA to be held in Gillette, WY, June 19-22, Janel Burger, National Director of Lewis & Clark Becky s Corner Wow, have the days gone by in a rush to get to fall! Seems just a month ago it was still spring and everything was starting to bloom and now the fall colors are making their way to all the maples and bushes. Everyone is canning and preserving the bounty of the season for winter use so, on that note I thought I would give one of my favorite fall recipes that says the frost is on the pumpkin. Apple Pie Pan Cookie 21/2 3 cups flour, 1 cup shortening, 1 Tbl sugar and a dash of salt (crumb as for pie crust) 5

1 egg separated with yolk in a 2/3 measure cup. Fill with milk, mixing well then add to flour mix. Divide dough in half and roll to fit cookie sheet. Crush 1 cup of corn flakes and cover the dough. Slice 8-10 cups of apples and spread these on top of the flakes. Sprinkle with 1 cup sugar and a tps or if you are like me 1 Tbl of cinnamon. Roll out second dough and cover all, pinching the edges to seal. Brush with the white of the egg (beat a bit) and sprinkle with sugar (I use raw sugar because it s course) Bake at 350 degrees for minutes or till golden. Mix ½ cup powdered sugar, a bit of milk or half-n-half and a bit of vanilla then brush over the pan cookie for a glaze. I hope you enjoy this recipe as it has always been my go to for any family get together or a potluck. This can be made with pears or peaches also, but remember to increase the corn flakes to 1 ½ - 2 cups as these are a juicier fruit. Happy Fall Y all! 6
