NORTH ALABAMA RV ers A chapter of the Family Motor Coach Association Chartered March 2003 Greetings, friends! I ve forwarded Tim Day s reports on Barbara Day s condition at Ft Wayne Lutheran Hospital. Please continue to hold Barbara in your prayers as she recovers from heart surgery. As of last report, Barbara is due to be released from the rehab on 12 September. is: When Barbara returns home, the Day s address Having no hosts for the August rally, I volunteered Kathie and I as not-hosts. We rallied at Editor: Bob Erickson mhsurfr@gmail.com Greetings from our President Bob Erickson Page 1 of Chelsa Dr Cleveland TN Last month, Linda Winters and I exhorted members to sign up for the South East Area Rally in Lakeland FL. Kathie and I paid for full hookups. If you want full hookups they are going fast! This has been a great rally in years past! I will be calling members in the next month about volunteering to be a club officer and host rallies. Expect my call! Please pray for those members and friends that are experiencing health problems and/or other issues. Also pray for those that have lost loved ones. Those I m aware of that need prayers for recovery are members Carl & Linda Hall, Gene Hammond, and Dwight & Gayla Hayes. Also include previous members Tim & Barbara Day. Please let me know who to add to this list (I know there s more). Bob Erickson, President Texas T Rally Report Bob Erickson Texas "T" in Cornersville TN, August As usual, rain was predicted for the entire rally! See below for when it actually DID rain! Attendees: Chuck & Sue Borcher Randal & Pam Caruthers Bob & Kathie Erickson (non-hosts) Carl & Linda Hall Donett Murphy Rick & Teresa Steinberg First of all; I was happy to relay Barbara Day's recovery progress to the group during the rally!
Kathie and I called ourselves "non-hosts" to encourage those that have not hosted to volunteer, as a guilt trip. Despite that, it was great fun! Thanks to Linda Hall for providing some pictures. We gathered at Texas T Campground on Thursday afternoon. The campground is clean, with gravel sites and lots of grassy areas. There are few amenities (no pool or minigolf), but we have NEVER seen such a nice meeting room! It has a full kitchen and bath, and room for about 30 (that's a guess) to gather and eat! It's very close to home (about 60 miles for us in Madison), but easy to get to off I-65. cookies and brownies. Kathie Erickson introduced her new "Fasttrack" game board. Friday morning the non-hosts served waffles and fruit for breakfast. Waffles had the option of butter and syrup, or strawberries and whipped topping. The Borchers and Donett Murphy went to an Amish community, while everyone else visited the Picker's Creek Winery. Apparently, the winery buys wines in bulk; blends, bottles, and labels it. That given, the property was beautiful and the folks were friendly. The tasting was free, and everyone bought some favorites. Caruthers and Steinbergs purchased chilled wine, cheese, and crackers. We all sat on the veranda (nice breeze) and talked. The winery has live music on Saturday nights in the summer. Chuck Borcher said the Amish community was farther than he thought, and not as nice as others. James & Pat (owners) could talk an ear off! They were so nice, and gifted us with 2 cartons of ice cream-the way to any person's heart! We enjoyed that after a dinner out. We left plenty of time to take care of pets between activities. At 5pm, we left for the Starlite Cafe in Cornersville. Randal Caruthers said his aunt and uncle had raved about it. Most folks loved the food. The ones that ordered fish & chips did not... After dinner, we played games and enjoyed the ice cream provided by the campground (with brownies and chocolate chip cookies provided by members). The first rain of the rally started about 9 pm. Pat & James (owners), in the park s nice meeting room. So, Thursday night we shared in a covered dish dinner. The non-hosts provided ham, and there were salads, sides, and desserts. Everyone had plenty! Afterward, we played games and continued eating Page 2 of 10
From left, clockwise: Donett Murphy, Teresa & Rick Steinberg, Sue Borcher, Pam Caruthers, Kathie Erickson. The girls are playing Fasttrack with Kathie s new board. Saturday morning we had egg casserole provided by Sue Borcher. Sue also provided different breads and a fruit blend. Teresa Steinberg offered pecan rolls. We also had fruit from yesterday. In the afternoon, we went to Tenn-South Distillery. They started in 2012, and are expanding. They make whiskey, moonshine, vodka, and gin. We took a tour, and they gave us sufficient information to brew our own beverages at home. Unfortunately, they gave us sufficient samples after the tour to forget everything! From left: Chuck & Sue Borcher, Randal Caruthers, Bob & Kathie Erickson, Pam Caruthers, Donett Murphy, Teresa & Rick Steinberg, Carl Hall. Page 3 of 10
The downtown area was quaint, and a railroad museum was across the street. The usual suspects, in front of vodka distillation and platinum catalyst stacks Next, we visited the Lynnville Fried Pie Company. Many had fried pies with different fillings, and some had chocolate candy as well. I had a buckeye, which tastes like a Reese's Cup (plus a lemon fried pie). Then, we visited Milky Way Farm. We didn't have a reservation (didn t know it was necessary), so only got a picture of the outside of the manor house. Saturday night we went to Sarge's Shack for dinner. I believe we all agreed the food was great! Sunday morning we had lots of leftovers (still VERY good): Sue Borcher's breakfast casserole and lots of fruit and breads. We cleaned up the meeting room before departing. Page 4 of 10
Newsletter Editor s Ramble Bob Erickson Our driveway was severely cracked already, so we had planned on replacing it after this job. We decided to widen the RV pad so we have a patio area, plus widen the drive so it would be straighter. We also decided to pay to landscape our front and back yard. This part was done first, then we had the hardest rain I can recall! The landscapers had put pipe in for downspouts, but had not yet connected them to the rear drainage ditch. Last month, I showed a picture of our old retaining wall. Much of the work on the wall was done while at the August rally. Here is the final RV pad. The right section in the rear is my original pad. The 12 inch curb is to catch rocks Here is the new wall (pile of rocks): Page 5 of 10 I buried a 1.5 inch electrical conduit under the concrete for my internet cable (we didn t have internet for about 3 weeks, except for phones), and a 2 inch electrical conduit to push ½ inch PEX through for a water connection to the RV. I may also push
cable through this 2 inch PVC, so that we can bring a DirecTV Genie slave to the RV. Please consider sending input (and errata) for YOUR newsletter. I LOVE being told I made a mistake, because then I know the newsletter is being read! Prayer requests, RV used items for sale, family milestones, family biography, recipes, crafts or any type of motorhome project are requested. Also, if you have RV questions or issues you need help with. And don t forget to tell us where you ve been, with pictures! Bob Erickson Editor While this was going on, I also rented a big stump grinder to grind over 25 stumps at our house & rental. It cost $450 Per day! Page 6 of 10
