FMCA --- Lewis & Clark Thousand Trails Busy Bee Newsletter - Volume 15 September 2014 President - Roger Beausoleil Vice President - Andy Andersen Secretary Paula Shaffer Roster Manager Nancy Beausoleil Treasurer Russ Watkins National Director Scott Siler Alt. Natl. Dir. Rick Shaffer Wagon Master Laurie Anderson Newsletter Editor Becky Everson Badge Maker Roger Epps A SPECIAL WELCOME to our newest members: Dale & Pam Brock, of Harrisburg, OR Roger & Nancy Beausoleil Well, fall is here, it s raining, all is well in Oregon. Nancy & I have had a great summer; all of our kids (3) were here so we got to have lots of good quality time as a family. In August, Nancy and I attended the memorial service for Arlene Miller. About 20 of our club members were at the service, it was a very moving service and we all miss Arlene. After the service, Eddy & Judy Wilson, Rick & Paula Shaffer and Nancy and I spent some time with Mike & Sheila May at their home in Aberdeen, WA, (it was like a mini rally). The rally put on by the board at Whaler s Rest (Sep ) was another successful rally, a good time was had by ALL. Lots of fun friends and food, (best salmon dinner ever). We put together a rally schedule for 2015 and elected a Nomination Committee for the election of officers. We also picked up new members (Dale & Pam Brock), of Harrisburg, OR. looking forward to seeing them at the Seaside rally. 1
Following is the minutes of the business meeting at the Whaler s Rest Rally FMCA -Lewis and Clark Chapter Business Meeting Whalers Rest Friday, Sept. 12, 2014 Meeting called order at 10:00 AM by President Roger Beausoleil Minutes of last meeting approved as read. 4 National Director, Scott Siler We're in the planning stages for the Coo's Bay NW Rally next year, June We still have a final meeting next April at Coo's Bay, to finalize and to take a first hand look at the facility. We voted on the name for the Rally, drum roll, " PLAY AT THE BAY " So plan now and mark your calendars. We have a lot of FUN things to do. Our chapter requested for a SWAP meet and we got it. We're also in charge of it. I need someone to head this up. They requested us to lay out the bus/tram stops. We won't be doing trams. The casino is going to provide all that. Details on parking and groups coming in together will be addressed at the next meeting. I want to thank Rick Schaffer for filling in for me at Redmond while I was in the hospital. Lois and I won't be at Coo's Bay as we will be on our way to Madison,Wisconsin for the FMCA National Reunion. Rick again will fill in for me at home during my absence, thanks Rick. More news later as we get it and we will blast it out. Deb & Phyllis Bolton Life at the Bolton's comes in 3's. Attended only one L & C rally - new engine in our coach - Deb's heart repair. Yes, 13, there's something in that Looking at attending 5 rallies with the high point being that Whalers Rest rally by the L & C board and that scrumptious salmon dinner, at that meal that were a plethora of members dressed in their best Hawaiian fashions. Long dresses (don't ask about grass skirts), just look and take a selfie. Lets keep those officers, they are phenomenal! With rally dates set, looking at our game plan: a few boat races, trips, doctor appointments, maybe get in the group hosting thing by the Salem people. They started planning this week. We had 19 for Sept. lunch. If you are in the Salem area on the 4th Monday of the month contact us and come by. Almost forgot the Branson trip to see the Christmas shows. I get 147 points for scrabble or was it words for this article. Deb & Phyllis Bolton 4
Ken and Mary Jo Ayers From Ken & Mary Jo Ayers: after 15 months in the Rogue Valley (Medford, OR) we are gearing up to start traveling again. We leave here October 1 and make our way to the Albuquerque Balloon Festival. It has been on our bucket list for years and now we finally get to go!!! I will definitely post pictures on the Locator. From there we will travel to Texas, and the gulf states, winter in Florida and head up to NYC when the weather gets warmer. From there we plan to see friends in PA, travel to the upper peninsula of MI and stop to see family in MN! We hope to be back in the Northwest next June or July. I want to thank everyone for their support and prayers. I'm feeling "normal" and glad we can head down the road again. Penny Williams-Young We are back on the road again at last! After the La Conner rally, we stopped at Birch Bay briefly and at Chehalis long enough to get mail. Then we were off to fulfill a two-year old dream to see Yellowstone NP. We are now at Star Valley, south of Jackson Hole. See you in Southern Cal later this winter Shirley and Bob Lindahl It has been a busy summer for the Lindahls, a much warmer summer than usual, with very little rain. Shirley has had no surgeries this summer! We did get to the rally in La Conner as it was in a TT park. We were charter members of Whalers Rest and one other park years ago. When Leisure Time bought it, they wanted another $5000 to join LT. We didn't feel that was fair, so now we cannot go to the L&C-TT rallies as they have changed to LT parks the last two years. We have taken several Can Am trips; one being a day trip to Artist's Point at Mt. Baker, a 155 mile round trip. Another fun round trip was a 600-mile round car trip to the Othello High School Retired Teachers Reunion. We hadn't seen these teachers in 30 years! A great time! Son Kent drove 400 of those miles and enjoyed the day with us. Returning home on I-90, we managed to tangle with a deer at 8:00 at night. After picking up a trunk load of car pieces and stabilizing the car exterior, we were drivable with one headlight for the next 80 miles where we stayed at their house in Carnation for the night. The collision repair place says we can get our car back in 3-4 weeks as it takes Nisan a while to ship large pieces like car hoods, fenders, etc. We are all ok and God was looking over us. The car was drivable! We plan to head south as Snowbirds about the first week of November for perhaps our last winter south. We are 85 and 86 as of last spring. We love our L&C-TT family and miss not going to the summer rallies. Shirley and Bob 5
Ron and Ingrid McKeown Although this summer has been wonderful weatherwise, unfortunately we have been unable to enjoy RVing. Ron has had some issues with kidney stones, and after 4 trips to ER, 2 surgeries, 2 nephrostomies, and 8 days in hospital, he is now on the mend. Moral of story, drink lots of fluids, as this helps prevent stones from forming. Depending on what the surgeon says next week, we hope to join you all in Seaside in October. If we don t bring the coach, we may just rent a cabin. It has not been all bad news, we were blessed by another granddaughter this summer, we now have 4, all girls. Bobby continues to do well, still enjoying life as only a dog can. Work continues in our condo as we prepare to downsize. Ron has done an amazing job on the renovations. The floors are down, kitchen upgraded, the new stove installed, some of the new furniture is in place. Bathrooms have been left to the last. Now, if I can just figure out what to throw out and what to move. Hope to see you in Seaside. Ron and Ingrid McKeown Roger and Diane Epps Diane and I finally have gotten to use the coach this season. After several surgeries Roger was allowed to again drive and enjoy the summer, or what s left of it. Whaler s rest was enjoyed by many and the weather was outstanding. I got in some horse shoeing and Diane and I even went for walk on the beach. As we have told many at the rally, we have put our home up for sale and looking to start full timing. Of course that will depend on the sale of the house. Looking forward to the rally at Seaside in October, and hopefully to seeing many of our club members there for the last of this season. Scott and Lois Siler Our travels and plans came to a dead stop when Scott came down with the chills and shakes on three different occasions. The last time it happened it was 80 degrees when he was outside. The paramedics were called and he was rushed to the hospital. He was there for nine days undergoing every test known to man. At one time we had seven specialists in to see him, all with their prognosis of his malady. It all boiled down to diverticulitis and two blood clots on his lung. To make a long story short, the follow up CT scans showed no clots and the diverticulitis is now normal. Scott has to be on rat poison (Warfarin) for an undetermined time. Avoiding nuts and seeds and dark greens. But he is back to normal and is ready to travel again. We will be heading South about the first week of November. Will be hanging out in So Cal mostly, but it is subject to change. Our first stop will be Las Vegas. Hope to see you there as we cross paths. Happy Travels...Fulltime RV Traveler's.. Scott & Lois Siler 6
Becky s Corner We hope everyone has had a wonderful summer this year! It has been a hot one for us on the coast, as we start to wither up if the sun stays out for more than three or four days at a time!! Randy and I have stayed home for the summer due to family and health issues. We will be going hunting in eastern Oregon so we may not be back in time for our Seaside rally, as opening day is the 4th. We both have tags this year and if we get them filled in the first few days we will come home asap!! We have missed going to the rallies and seeing everyone. Hope next year the traveling will be better with God s Grace!! Got this from Allrecipes.com and it is so yummy and easy!!...enjoy.. Chili Rellenos Casserole Original recipe makes 6 servings 2 (7 ounce) cans whole green chile peppers, drained 8 ounces Monterey Jack cheese, shredded 8 ounces Longhorn or Cheddar cheese, shredded 3 eggs, beaten 1 (5 ounce) can evaporated milk 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour 1/2 cup milk 1 (15 ounce) can enchilada sauce Directions 1.
