Central Oregon Chapter of Family Motor Coach Association (FMCA) September 2016 Newsletter Peter Ribble - Editor 2016 Rim Rock Roamers Rally Schedule Last One of the year! Wagon Master - Warner Butler (541) September 8-11, 2016 Arrive Thursday, depart Monday Camp Sherman RV NF-1419/113 #1419, Camp Sherman, OR Charlotte & Rod campshermanrv.com It is hard to believe our rally season is coming to an end. (Not that you can t continue to use your RV until the snow flies!) 2016 has been a fun year as we welcomed a few new members and were saddened by several of our friends passing. The cycle of life is never predictable, so get out there and do what you want while you can, for as long as you can! The Rim Rock Roamers have enjoyed a fun year, with the Hanford B Reactor tour, a clam chowder cook off, clamming in Silet Bay, a long island ice tea contest, the NW Area Rally in Albany, fun with new pets and even a marriage. WHAT FUN! Editor A note from your 2017 Wagon Master Marion Pratt Some of you I know, some of you I don t, but hope to. I have volunteered to take on the Wagonmaster role for the club for I am somewhat new to RVing so do not have a long list of favorite parks. Thus, it seems to makes sense to come directly to you. Soon you will be receiving an from me asking for suggestions for places you d like to visit, places you ve been and loved and want to share with the group, or places you ve never been but would like to try. I know two things for sure: 1) Our 2017 Northwest Area Rally will take place June 22-25, 2017 at the Cowlitz County Convention and Event Center in the Longview/Kelso, WA area. It would be fun to set up a Roamers pre-rally rally somewhere south of Longview, so let s think about that. It would make it easier to go in early if we decide to do that. I will need to set this up soon, so please think about whether it s something you d like to be involved in. 2) I would love to go to the Newport Marina as a group. Lots of fun things to do there. Other than that, next summer is wide open, and I look forward to filling it with gatherings that will be fun for all of us. Please be in touch any time: marion.pratt49@gmail.com. I ll get back to you soon.
Siletz Lincoln City, OR Look out Purple Varnish clams...here come the Roamers! But I want more than 72! A Note from Kathy Balogh FMCA National Vice President - NW Area One item from the Governing Board meeting that I would like to mention, so you have a chance to act on it before it takes effect on October 1, 2016, is a $10.00 annual FMCA dues increase. If you pay before October 1, 2016 ( you can add on to the number of years that you have already paid ) you may even add 5 years by paying for 4 years at $ This can be done online at or by calling Secondly, FMCAssist has received recent inquiries regarding the return of vehicles over 10 years old. Seven Corners, the insurer, cannot find Professional Drivers to transport vehicles over 10 years of age. However, they will pay for the transportation of a driver to the location of a vehicle over 10 years of age within North America and will also reimburse the member for fuel and tolls/ferries during the return, provided the return has been approved by Seven Corners (the insurer) and the vehicle is returned directly and expediently to the member s permanent primary residence within the USA, Canada or Mexico. The coach owner must make the arrangements for a driver themselves. In addition, the plan will provide a $100 per day benefit, up to a maximum of 5 days, for incidental expenses while driving. In no event shall the total expenses of a vehicle return exceed $5,000 for all expenses associated with the vehicle return. As a reminder, FMCA does have a list of pitch hit drivers listed in the January issue and online. Kathy
Cutest Puppy Ever! Zoey Langford Mr. and Mrs. John Doermer "The best and most beautiful things in this world cannot be seen or even heard, but must be felt with the heart." Helen Keller Congratulations John and Shoshana from the Rim Rock Roamers!
Rim Rock Roamers National Director Jerry Andres Hi Roamers: Yes, as part of the RRR September Rally at Camp Sherman, for those who are interested, on Saturday September 10 we have been invited to the McIntosh Farm in Terrebonne, Oregon to attend their annual thrashing bee. I attended my first thrashing bee in Illinois in 1951 with my father at my cousin s farm. A thrashing bee is a gathering of friends who come together to cut and process oats. The oats are cut with a team of three draft horses pulling a vintage binder which cuts and binds the oats in small bundles. Teams of draft horses with wagons follow the binder in the field and pick up the bundles of oats and then take them to the thrashing machine where the final product becomes oats in burlap bags. Jinny and I have been involved helping at this outing for many years. The McIntosh thrashing machine is a 1920's Case powered by an old Oliver tractor that is attached to the thrashing machine by a long belt. The binder also dates back to the early 1900's. If you want to experience some of our country's history, you will not want to miss this thrashing bee. Jerry From Secretary Kathy Butler Arriving Thursday Sept 8th and departing Monday Sept 12 is.the LAST RALLY of the season and it is fast approaching..if you need just one more reason to get out on the road, Camp Sherman is the place. It is a small and cozy location in the pines. There are still spaces available (as of this writing) so make your reservation. It will be an unstructured event with a few options for activities and outings to be suggested. Call and reserve your spot today and let Kathy know that you will be coming so she can send you the details! kstanley.butler@gmail.com Camp Sherman Motel & RV Park, Forest Service Road 1419, Camp Sherman
Rim Rock Roamers President Warner Butler A really good RRR Rally at Devil's Lake RV, Lincoln City!!! Great turnout with 9 RRR coaches and 3 coaches from the Oregon Trail Drivers. Really pleased to have them join us. A grateful THANK YOU!! for all the research, planning and activities coordinated by Kathy Butler...arrival night pot luck, then Tuesday night Clam Chowdah cook-off with Marion, Carol Brown(Oregon Trail Drivers), Joe Bolkovatz(Oregon Trail Drivers) and Kathy each preparing their own recipes. Really, really tasty. I know Jerry and I had difficulty doing "push aways" from the table. And Jinny's cornbread...wow!! Wednesday morning we had "Clamming Class" at the Lincoln City Library and then went to Siletz Bay for Purple Varnish clam digging. Peter, John Doermer and Kathy dug their limit(72). I was close with 62. Our clams are cleaned and in the freezer here at home awaiting Kathy's next "Chowdah" preparation. Wednesday night dinner at Chinook Winds was marginal in my view. I think that we were all expecting another "Spirit Mountain (Grande Ronde)" seafood spread of several years ago...which was superb!! And we didn't get to all sit together either. Tuesday morning we had elections. Dave Coleman graciously stepped forward to be Vice President for 2017 and Marion Pratt had already volunteered to be Wagon Master. The rest of the slate for 2017 remained the same as 2016 with Jinny Andres - Treasurer, Kathy Butler - Secretary, Jerry Andres - National Director and I will stay on as President. We had a quorum and all were confirmed by vote. Next RRR rally is at Camp Sherman just west of Sisters, 8-11 September. Kathy already has an out on that. Thanks to all and I am never going to miss a chance to say "Thank You" to Peter for such a great Newsletter! Warner Camp Sherman!
