2 Director s Chair July 2014 Once again we had a great turnout (with at least a dozen Model A s meeting for breakfast) on June 1st for a trip to Model A Days in Sharon Wisconsin. Other members joined us at Sharon where clubs from the Tri State area filled the town with our favorite car. If you haven t ever made it to this meet, you have missed a good one. Several of our members are attending the MARC National Meet at French Lick Indiana this month and will report at the July Business meeting. Several couples have signed up for the Summer Tour July to Clear Lake Iowa. We will have a busy schedule with much to see and do as we visit several places in Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin. Please plan to help the club on the fourth of July in several parades we have contracted to supply cars for. This event is one of our most important fund raisers that provides the club with the funds needed to operate through the year. At the June Business meeting Jim Antoni asked the membership if the club might consider running another National Meet possibly in the next five years. In 1985 our club hosted a meet in Itasca, IL. Personally involved, I felt that the club put together one of the finest National Meets ever. Ten years later our club once again hosted a very successful National Meet in St. Charles. Nearly 20 years have passed since then. Numerous questions need to be researched before our members can decide if we should consider doing this again. We will schedule a Directors Meeting in the next month to explore this possibility. I hope to see everyone on the Fourth of July, the Summer Tour and the Club Picnic July 27th! 5 The 6th Bracket In reading a Restorer from 2007, I was intrigued to learn about the 6th frame bracket found on the Standard Fordor Sedan 160-A, the Town Sedan 160-B and the Victoria 190-A (Frame Assembly A-5005-D). The complete article on frames, which I highly recommend reading, as written by Steve Plucker from Touchet, Washington can be found at:
6 Cover Photo Don Morman s 1931 Roadster Don bought his1931 model A Ford roadster in 2006 from a dealer in Wisconsin. The dealer had bought it from a restorer in Michigan. The car has a five speed S 10 transmission Borg Warner that lowers the RPMs, when in fifth gear. The dashboard has a custom scroll done by a friend who does pinstriping. Don had the engine rebuilt by Antique Engine Rebuilding in Skokie, it's a 12 volt negative ground system. Don has done trips in the past with the car to Kalamazoo Michigan and he also went to Gilmore Michigan to the grand opening of the model A museum. On the Fourth of July Don has participated in three parades one in Niles,Skokie and Evanston for the past five years. Don is an active member in the club as he has been treasurer for many years. Ken Ehrenhofer asked me to post the list of tools available for club use. They are as follows: 1. Head removal tool 2. Steering wheel removal tool 3. Rear spring spreader 4. Distributor removal tool (to be used when the distributor body is rusted into the head) Please contact Ken at the following: kehrenhofer@msn.com Home: Mobile:

9 Fashion In The Model A Era ( ) Hats remain a staple of a proper man's wardrobe. Homburg and fedora styles are the most common and sophisticated of the available styles. These are the accepted hats of the business professional. Working class men would generally favor a fedora for formal occasions--such as attendance at church. Considered more casual, cloth hat styles were also very popular throughout all three decades. The driving cap/newsboy was just as common as the fedora. Somewhat of a working man's style, this cloth cap was actually worn by all classes. Upper class men favored them for driving (thus their name) or for sporting purposes. There were even versions of the fedora and homburg made out of cloth (seen here in the middle of the bottom row in the image at the left). These were particularly popular during the war when wool becomes rationed. For more information, please visit:
