As long as we were passing through the Central Valley, we decided to take in the Turlock Swap Meet. In size, it s second only to the Portland Swap Meet, but like Portland, Model A parts which once were plentiful, are now few and far between. But it was well worth it just to see many of our California friends. It was also great to get a respite from the fog and cold, rainy weather. Saturday at Turlock was sunny and warm. There was a lot of anticipation amongst Model A ers there about the upcoming MAFCA National Meet June in Reno. It s a fairly short drive from southern Oregon, and if you ve never been to a MAFCA National Meet, this is your chance. Here is a link to the website You don t have to drive your Model A. You can trailer it or drive your modern. Please give it some thought. Let me know if you have any questions. You may have seen that MAFCA has hired a new editor of The Restorer magazine. His name is Andy Scheer and he is from Colorado Springs, Colorado. The issue you just received in the mail will be the last one from current Editor Jim Spawn, who is retiring after being on the job for 17 years. In my mind, the new editor has some pretty big shoes to fill, but I am hopeful he is up to the task. Before you throw away the wrapper for the January-February issue, be sure to make a note of your MAFCA membership number that is located on the mailing label. You can write it on the 2018 membership card that came with the magazine so you will always have it handy. See you Saturday, February 10 for our regular business meeting. Afterwards we will head to Medford to tour Aries Muffler, Joe Davis Model A muffler assembly facility and restoration shop. Joe and his wife Sid Fredericks are new members of Henry s Lady. Page 7 MAFFI Newsletter Minute MAFFI is a non-profit organization Founded by the Model A Ford Foundation. What a nice collection of history available for all to see. If you are not able to go see the museum in person there is a lot of neat information on their website. An interesting link I have enjoyed looking through involves articles of past and current displays at the museum. Type in: Page 3 One featured interactive display allows visitors to learn how to start the mighty Model A. Lights prompt the driver what to do in the sequence of events leading up to the engine acutally starting. This Model A Ford sounds really good, but won t be going down the road any time soon! What a great idea to spread that historic car itch to future generations.

4 Remember: Name Badges All of us are getting older, and for some of us, remembering the names of our members, both old and new, is sometimes a challenge. So help us by wearing your name badge to all meetings, either the Henry s Lady badge or the MAFCA badge. Thank you! Technical Tips and Resources The following two notes are provided from Mike McKey: I got a great deal on my Model A tires. It is "Performance Plus Tire Ctr.", in Long Beach, CA, or you can just type that name on the computer and the site will come up. They sell 440/ tires (Lucas) for Model T's for $99, 450/ and 500/ (Universals) for Model A's again for $99, these are black walls and all tires are free shipping. They also have tubes for $19.95 with free shipping. If you need wheels sandblasted and powder coated Les Schwab will do it for $32. They are limited to about 7 colors but have some Model A colors. I sent two off today for them to do. It takes about a week to get them back. John Firth put me on to them. I sent it through the Schwab store there in GP. John said they do a great job! Thank you to Rick Black for doing the newsletter and thank you to all officers for Announcements: Andy Scheer is the new Restorer editor. John mentioned those with birthdays and anniversaries this month. Number of members present is 52 and guests 1 Mail was circulated. 6 Kitsy Wikkerink and Pam Green made and seconded a motion to approve the minutes of the November meeting as published in the December newsletter. Motion passed. Nancy Firth gave the treasurer s report. Grace Peary and Rick Black made and seconded a motion to approve it. Motion passed. Sunshine: Pam Green asked all to remember Lou & Joeann Murphy and Paul & Betty Jones who are experiencing health challenges. John Firth reported that founding member Dorothy Allen of Carlsbad, California passed away recently. The club will make a $25 donation to the Model A Ford Foundation Inc (MAFFI) in her honor. Old Business: 2018 dues are past due as of today. Nancy Firth is still working on the order for the club caps. John asked if the club wants to continue meeting for lunch at Allen Creek McDonalds on the last Tuesday of each month. General consensus was in favor of continuing. New Business: Club books for 2017 were audited by Bob Fleishman and Nancy Firth. All bank statements and other records were reviewed and found to be in order. An income statement will be created for the books. Motions were made to pay the following current bills: Rick Black and Kitsy Wikkerink made and seconded motion to pay the $75 insurance invoice from MAFCA; Jerry Schulte and Mac MacDougall made and seconded motion to pay the $10 annual dues invoice from the Northwest Regional Group, MAFCA. Both motions passed. Nancy Firth reported that the price for our luncheon today has been reduced by 50 per person because our headcount was greater than expected. Bob Fleischman and Art Peary made and seconded a motion to add the extra money paid by members, approximately $30, to the gratuity. Motion passed. John asked for volunteers for refreshments for September and November meetings. There were no volunteers. Tours and Activities: Tom Rogers will continue as tour coordinator. John asked new member Joe Davis if he would give us a tour of his shop in Medford after the February meeting. He agreed. Tom is working on some additional tours. Membership: John mentioned that MAFCA offers free one year memberships if you have not been a member before. Chuck Green has the forms and a list of who qualifies. Chuck Green said he will continue as membership coordinator. Editor: Our new newsletter editor will be Todd Calvert. Rick Black said he would offer any help Todd might need. Other committees: Art Peary will continue as the librarian. Jerry Schulte will continue to make club name badges. Lynn MacDougall will continue to be the refreshments coordinator. Mike McKey will continue as Chapter News reporter for The Restorer. Page 6

7 Car Talk: Mike Wing gave warning to all when approaching a police car at night in the fog that it may be difficult to see. Art Peary explained why a modern points setup is more efficient than original. 50/50 Raffle: Total collected $71, winner Bob Schmidt $36, club treasury $35.
