2 what s on Ignite The Spirit Of Christmas Over 250,000 lights have been added to this year s Christmas Lights Spectacular at Hunter Valley Gardens ensuring that the event, with over 1.25 million lights in total, will be the best yet! The Gardens will be fi lled with vibrant colour, incredible light and sound displays every night from Friday 9th November, 2012 until Saturday 26th January, 2013 (excluding Christmas Day and night). In its sixth year, Christmas Lights Spectacular is the largest lights display in the Southern Hemisphere, making it a must see for the entire family and a great way to kick start that festive season. Hunter Valley Gardens General Manager, Kyle McKendry says, This year will be bigger, brighter and better than previous years. We ll have live entertainment for all ages, delicious food and wine and more Christmas lights than ever illuminating the Gardens. The Twelve Days of Christmas music and light display in the Border Garden, the cactus musical extravaganza and the three mega trees that are an incredible 12, 9 and 6 metres high are sure to amaze visitors. 4 creative Creative Arts arts With Love, From Cupids Flower Studio Creativity and passion are a family commitment at Cupids Flower Studio & Event Hire in Muswellbrook. Nicole Lawrence knew she wanted to continue in the business of fl oral arrangements and event managing when she moved to the area from Sydney, and August 6th this year saw the dream become a reality together with family members Jackie, Elle, Stacey and event supervisor Kimberlee. Nicole has some impressive credentials to her name. Trained by some of the top fl orists in the industry and having studied event management at university, Nicole has taken part and placed in many competitions. However, she says this is not what attracts her to the industry. I just really enjoy fl owers and seeing how happy they can make someone feel, she says. All fl owers used by the studio are climate controlled and not stored in a cool room, which Nicole says keeps them at their highest quality. We also offer a free delivery service to make it more affordable for customers to send fl owers. 5 creative arts Muswellbrook Community Christmas Carols The Upper Hunter Conservatorium of Music (UHCM), in association with Muswellbrook Shire Council, is excited to be presenting this year s popular Muswellbrook Community Christmas Carols evening for the enjoyment of all residents located in the Muswellbrook Shire. A variety of fun festivities involving local schools, churches and community organisations; a visit from Santa and of course a selection of Christmas carol favourites, will be showcased at Muswellbrook s Highbrook Park on Saturday 15 December, commencing at 5:30pm. It is always tempting to fi ne a cheaper source, but hopefully after reading this article I can persuade you that Cheap Online drugs are not the way to go. If you spend a couple of hours surfi ng the internet you can fi nd amazingly cheap drugs especially on foreign websites. They offer the convenience of delivering to your home and seem like a great idea. But all drugs are regulated in Australia and part of the additional costs are related to these stringent quality controls. Drugs produced in other countries especially China, Cuba and Mexico have been shown to have much less of the active ingredient than they state on the pack. This is due to less or no regulation of the industry or an illegal producer. Essentially when you give the tablet you are not giving the amount needed to have the benefi cial effect especially important with drugs like antibiotics. These drugs will at best be a waste of money as they will not help your animal, in other cases may actively harm them. A second major cost to us is the correct storage of drugs. We have to use drugs within a certain time to ensure the ingredients are still active and will work correctly. Sometimes this involves keeping them refrigerated. This does not mean sending them in a box, then putting them in a fridge, they are kept cool at ALL times in a refrigerated truck or on special ice blocks, on an urgent delivery (less than 6 hours) and immediately unpacked and placed in the fridge. Drugs such as vaccines are inactivated by a short time of warmth, so should never be sent in the post. Any company doing this knows you will be receiving a useless product at the end. Drugs which are stored in bulk may have had a period of lack of care. You can be sure your local vet will have gone to every effort to follow correct procedures, and we send back any drugs which has defrosted or got hot in transit, because we see the end result in your animal. Can you trust an internet company in this way? Lastly, it is important to support your local veterinarian. They work hard to offer round the clock excellent care for your precious pet. 12 local gig guide Local Radio Presenter Has The Power If you stopped and said hello to Dane McGurk down the street you d be left thinking, where have I heard that voice before? Gurks, as he is known to listeners of Power FM has been a regular presence in the lives of locals since landing the radio gig in September Hailing from Brisbane, Gurks studied at Queensland University of Technology, graduating with a Bachelor of Journalism in After holding a number of jobs in the radio business working for Nova FM and Parkes Broadcasting Company he made the move to Muswellbrook, saying I was getting too tanned from working on a private island in the Bahamas for Disney. It s his witty sense of humour that is largely responsible for his popularity with listeners. As well as hosting on air, Gurks also acts as Music Director for Radio Hunter Valley, a job he describes as talking into a silver stick thingy and listening and putting music into a computer. A self-proclaimed simple guy, Gurks enjoys all things Brisbane, Will Ferrell movies and meeting new people the last of which is an attribute that he says makes for a successful radio presenter.
