We are just a few short weeks away from the 23rd Annual Rogues Hollow Festival, which will be held on August 5th and 6th. I m looking forward to this annual celebration which is like going to a family or class reunion for many of our residents. I invite you to come out to the festival this year, which always begins with the Grand Parade on Friday night. The entire schedule is on page 7 and there are quite a few new events to come and experience. I hope you can come enjoy our family friendly festival which has something for everyone. On behalf of the Village, I would like to say thank you to the Rogues Hollow Festival committee for their tireless efforts in putting this together for the last 23 years. Our summer concert series will end in July, so if you haven t made it to one of the Friday night FREE concerts, you still have a few opportunities to experience two shows. We have been very lucky this year and have had wonderful weather which makes for a great evening out. Enjoy the rest of your summer and I ll see you at the Festival! 2 P a g e 2 V i l l a g e o f D o y l e s t o w n A u g u s t, Empty Bowl Project Coming to Doylestown Empty Bowls is an international project to fight hunger, personalized by artists and art organizations on a community level. It was founded in 1990 by civic-minded people in a Michigan town whose idea was to organize an event to give artists and art students a way to make a personal difference. Local crafters and student artists created ceramic bowls to be used as individual serving pieces for a fund-raising meal of soup and bread. Contributing guests kept the empty bowls. Since its humble beginnings this concept has grown and spread throughout the United States and Canada raising millions of dollars to aid in the fight against hunger and supporting food related charities. Now a group of volunteers in Doylestown have teamed up to bring the first annual Empty Bowl Projec to our community in hopes of raising funds to benefit the Doylestown Community Food Cupboard. On September 18, 2016, from noon until 2:00p.m., participants will come together at Chippewa High School for a simple meal to be served in an atmosphere of giving. For a minimum donation of $30, each guest will receive soup, bread, a cookie and water and will be able to choose from a variety of handcrafted bowls to keep as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world. If one wishes to make a minimum contribution of $10, the meal alone is provided without the gifted bowl. There will also be a silent auction, basket raffles, and a 50/50 drawing with all of the money raised going toward support of the Community Food Cupboard. One hundred percent of each meal s proceeds are devoted to curtailing hunger in our community. The Doylestown Empty Bowl Committee is looking for local artists and crafters who would be able to donate handcrafted ceramic, wood turned, glass blown, fiber, or metallic bowls to furnish the needs of this worthy project. Donations of such can be made by contacting Marianne Woodside, the projects chairperson, at , or by at: mar.woodside@gmail.com. Reservations for this event can be made by completing this form and returning it along with a check or money order made out to The Doylestown Empty Bowl Project. Tickets will be issued at the door on the day of the event. Fire Chief Retiring Soon I would like to start off by saying that Doylestown is my home as it has been for the last 11 years, and I have no plans to leave. I have been in fire service for 43 years and now is the time to see what life will be like after the Fire Department. I can honestly say it has been a great ride over the years. As one of the first paramedics in Medina County, I was actually in the very first paramedic class held at Akron General Hospital! When I was hired as the first full time Fire Chief for the Chippewa Township Fire Department in May of 2005, it was truly an honor. Coming into this department 11 years ago, I was able to witness all the work that was done prior to my arrival by so many dedicated members; and now with the help of all our current members, has made my job a true blessing. Over the past 11 years, our work load has increased tremendously. As an example, our run volume went from 700 to over 1100, our staffing went from six hours M-F to sixteen hours seven days a week. Because of this increase, we were able to update vehicles and also remodel the station to accommodate staff to sleep overnight. Last year, I hired Joyce Forrer as the full time Assistant Chief. She is now ready to take over the helm as your new Fire Chief. Joyce has 22 years of experience and has worked her way up through the ranks. She has proven herself to be a dedicated and caring person. These traits are needed to be in this position. July 29th will be my last day in the station. I invite you to stop in anytime between 11 am and 3 pm. I would love to talk with you and say thank you for all the support you have given me. Lions Club Rose Sale COMING SOON Roses need to be ordered by October 28th. Pick up or delivery is November 4th. Call Kay Kerr at to place an order. Orders can also be placed with any Lions Club member. All proceeds benefit various community projects. As always, thank you for your continued support! Village Wide Trick or Treat Will take place on Thursday, October 27th from 5:30-7:00. Turn on your porch light to participate. The Snollygoster Parade begins at 6:45 pm on the square and marches to the Middle School where the Lions will host a costume judging contest. We hope to see you there! The 5th Annual Christmas At The Square will once again enhance our downtown with beautifully decorated Christmas trees during the holidays! The Village of Doylestown cordially invites all businesses, non-profit groups and families to display a tree in the spirit of Christmas. With registration, you are encouraged to decorate a tree for placement by Village Hall. Tree lighting will occur Saturday, December 4th at 5 pm when Santa arrives at the square. After the tree lighting, take the kiddos to visit with Santa in the lower level of Village Hall. Registration forms will be on the village website and will also be available in Village Hall in September. Mark your calendars!

4 P a g e 4 V i l l a g e o f D o y l e s t o w n A u g u s t, Community Bulletin Board A perfect summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, the birds are singing and the lawn mower is broken! ~ James Dent Mosquito Spraying Continues Mosquito spraying will continue now and throughout the month of September. Spraying takes place every Wednesday evening. If it is raining or if there are relative high winds, spraying will be moved to Thursday evening. Spraying will help keep the mosquito population down, but will not eliminate them. Please use protective precautions when enjoying the outdoors. 7th Annual Document Shredding We are offering this service to Village residents on Saturday, September 24th from 9 am to noon in the back parking lot of Village Hall. This program is made possible thanks to the funds which we receive from the Recycling Makes Sense Grant through Stark- Tuscarawas-Wayne Joint Solid Waste Management District. This grant is based on the tonnage produced by our residents who participate in the curbside recycling program. So that we can accommodate everyone, please limit shredding to 5 boxes per person. We ask that you please bring one or more canned food items for donation to the Doylestown Food Pantry. Thank you from our Village Council members. Summer Brush Pick Up Monthly pick up is held on the 2nd Monday of each month from now until October. Pick up dates are as follows: August 8th, September 12th and October 10th. Please note that pick ups will begin on the specified dates, weather permitting. Depending on the amount of brush that needs to be picked up, it may take several days to complete. Brush must be at the curb by 8 am on the scheduled pick up date. Once pick up has taken place in your neighborhood, the crew will not return until the next scheduled date. Each pick up is limited to a maximum of 15 minutes. If more time is needed, it will be left until the following month. Shrubs will only be taken if the root ball has been removed. Please keep sidewalks clear of brush as stated in the Village s Codified Ordinance Thank you for your cooperation. Clothe-A-Kid Applications Now Available Now through August 1st and can be picked up at Zion Lutheran Church 65 W. Clinton Street Monday thru Thursday from 9 am to 2 pm, just inside the glass doors. To qualify: Student (s) must attend Chippewa Local Schools grades K-12; Family receives financial assistance from Wayne County; Family member is available to shop for or with child Mon. The Lions will have doughnuts available at Memorial Park off Gates Street in the morning, and will serve barbeque chicken in the afternoon. Come down to the park and support them while you shop! *Public restrooms available at Memorial Park. Goodwill Drop Off After Yard Sales Please be advised that AFTER our Village Wide Yard sales on Saturday, September 17th, Goodwill Industries of Wooster will be in town the next day, Sunday September 18th. VILLAGE WIDE CLEAN UP October 7th Multiple large items (couches, chairs, etc.) are accepted, NO HAZARDOUS MATERIALS, TIRES OR ELECTRONIC DEVICES. FREON MUST BE RE- MOVED from any appliance and red tagged by a licensed technician. Paint cans are accepted but the paint has to be dried completely. Kitty litter can also be used to absorb the liquid inside each can. Please leave the lids off so Republic can see that they are acceptable for pickup. Thank you. *This service offered to you by the Village of Doylestown and Republic Waste. They will be located in the rear parking lot of Village Hall. There will be a truck at this location and will accept any of your unsold items from 11 AM UNTIL 2 PM. TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 8TH Voter Registration Forms are available at Village Hall. Deadline to register for the November 8th election is October 11th. Absentee Ballot Applications are also available at Village Hall. These need to be received at the Board of Elections by noon on November 3rd. All Information must be sent to the Wayne County Board of Elections, not Village Hall. Noxious Weed and High Grass Ordinance Ordinance passed May 7, 2014 states that grass and weeds must be cut when they exceed 8 inches in height between May 1 and October 1. Lindeman Managing Editor: Kristen Robison From the Doylestown Police Department The Doylestown Police Department will be providing security for events and attendees for the up-coming Rogues Hollow Festival on August 5 th and 6 th. To help us ensure the safety of the people attending as well as those in the area, the Police Department is asking for the community s help by following a few safety tips: Keep little ones off the street as much as possible during the parade Encourage children who are on their own to stay in groups within the barricades and have a check in time Be aware of your surroundings Immediately report suspicious activity to law enforcement officers Lock ALL vehicle doors and roll up your windows Do not leave any valuables in your vehicle Securely carry your purses and put wallet/valuables in a safe place Choose alternate routes to avoid congestion if you do not need to be downtown Drivers should slow down and be aware of increased pedestrian foot traffic Pedestrians should extra cautious and watch traffic. Different roads and alleys are closed at different times Do not leave bags, purses, or drinks unattended Remember that open containers of alcohol are not allowed except for in the beer tent Alert citizens are essential in helping us to keep our community safe. We urge you to pay attention to your surroundings and immediately report any suspicious activity to one of our Police Officers. If you are unable to locate a Police Officer report it to the nearest Fire/EMS personnel, to the information booth near the statue, or contact our non-emergency dispatch number at As always, you can call 911 in case of an emergency.
