City Hall Business Office Mon.-Fri. 9:00 a.m.-12:00 noon & other times by appointment July & August 2018 RAGBRAI S COMING TO TOWN! Colo, roll out the welcome mat. RAGBRAI is coming to town on July 25th. Here is our chance to show the world why we like living in Colo. Upwards of 20,000 people are expected to roll through our town on that Wednesday morning. What an opportunity to tell our story! Join in the fun! Volunteer to help with the activities, which will all take place on Main St and at Niland s Corner. There will be food vendors, games, entertainment and lots of people watching. Remember the riders will only be here for a few hours. We expect most of the cyclists to be in town between 7 & 11am. And all will be out of town by 2pm. The bicyclists will use the following streets as they come through Colo: Lincoln Way to West St, turn on Main St. They will exit town via 4th St to Warner to 2nd st and back to Lincoln Way. Main St will be closed to traffic that day and we encourage all residents to avoid the RAGBRAI route if possible. We are aware this will make getting to the post office difficult that morning. But it is only for one morning. I suggest you park by St Mary s Church and walk to the post office. Or wait until the afternoon to pick up your mail on the 25th. We certainly encourage Colo residents to mingle and visit with our guests. They come from all over the world to ride across Iowa. They all have a story to share. And we have a story to tell. Vendors for RAGBRAI are still needed. If you are interested in selling food items, etc. contact Amy at City Hall and get a vendor application form. Clean Up Colo. If you live along the RAGBRAI route we encourage you to spruce up your property. Add some curb appeal that will leave a good impression on the riders. Welcoming displays with a bicycle on them are encouraged.

3 IT S TIME TO TRIM LOW HANGING TREE LIMBS Almost everyone agrees that mature trees add value to our property andprovide welcome shade during these hot summer months. However, that tree does occasionally require some TLC. City hall receives several calls each year regarding low tree limbs overhanging streets, alleys and sidewalks. Even though the tree may be located within the city street right-of-way the Colo City Code requires the owner of the property abutting the street or alley to trim the tree. Tree branches are required to be trimmed to a height of no less than 15 feet above streets and alleys and 8 feet above sidewalks. The code gives the City the authority to trim trees and assess the cost against the adjoining property owner or to issue a citation for a municipal infraction if trees are not trimmed after notification. The code also prohibits the planting of any new trees or shrubs in any street right-of-way. To get more information on tree planting restrictions or many other City Code Fire Hydrant Flushing The City of Colo will be flushing fire hydrants beginning July 1st through August 31st Because of the nature of the work it is not possible to predetermine how long flushing a given area will take. This work is being done as part of the City s annual water main and hydrant preventative maintenance program. Customers should be aware of the potential for dirty or discolored water. This is a temporary situation resulting from flushing sediment out of the pipes. The water may also be cloudy or appear white due to air entrapped in the water. All water system customers are cautioned to check the water before use. Should you experience dirty water, simply wait for a period of time and it will clear up. We at the City of Colo apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our customers and appreciate your understanding. Anyone having any questions can call City Hall at THANK YOU! A big thank you to the Clover Leaf Club for their donations towards the flowers in the Main Street Pots! MOVING SOON! CWC will Shut down July 13 - July 15 We will be open for business on July 16 at 2017 Main Street in Collins. Stop in and also check out what we offer at Collinsiowawellnesscenter.com
