2 Sylvia manages the Imperial Valley Red Cross, which is located on Broadway Avenue in El Centro. She is well known in the community for her tireless efforts and generosity to make a difference in the lives of people here. She too is very active in the community and is an advocate not only for the Red Cross but also for the Imperial Valley Special Olympics and many other community events. Ms. Preciado is an active member of the El Centro Fire Chiefs Association, Police Advisory Board, Law Enforcement Memorial Committee and the Desert Cruisers Car Club. The crowning of Eusebio Arballo and Sylvia Preciado will take place on February 4, 2011 and the good times will roll down Main St. on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 5 p.m. in downtown El Centro. The highly anticipated Mardi Gras Light Parade and Street Festival with glitter and lights of purple, green and gold will reign during this year s family friendly parading of floats and participants of every description in a nighttime moving carnival. There were many nominations, but it was Eusebio Arballo and Sylvia Preciado that are the 2011 winners receiving the most nominations. Eusebio is a Public Affairs Specialist with SDG&E managing the Renewable Energy Resource Center here in El Centro. Mr. Arballo is active in our community and serves on many boards such as the Imperial Valley Young Professionals, El Centro Chamber of Commerce and is the El Centro Rotary Club Director. 6 Holiday Safety Reminders From ECPD Crime Prevention With the 2010 holiday season upon us, the El Centro Police Department would like to give you some helpful crime prevention tips to make sure you have the best possible time with family and friends. Report suspicious activity immediately by dialing 911. You could be making someone s holiday a lot happier. Home Safety & Crime Prevention Don't let the rush and excitement of the holiday season make you careless in protecting your home from potential criminals. The holiday season is a time when busy people can become careless and vulnerable to theft and other holiday crime. When leaving home for an extended time, have a trusted neighbor or family member watch your house and pick up your newspapers and mail. Set indoor and outdoor lights on an automatic timer. Leave a radio or television on so the house looks and sounds occupied. Large displays of holiday gifts should not be visible through the windows and doors of your home. Be aware that criminals sometimes pose as couriers delivering gifts. It s okay to ask for your delivery person s credentials. It is not uncommon for criminals to take advantage of the generosity of people during the holiday season by soliciting donations door-to-door for charitable causes although no charity is involved. Ask for their identification, and find out how the donated funds will be used. If you are not satisfied, do not donate. After opening large or big ticket items (televisions, computers, gaming systems, etc.), break down the boxes to fit inside your trash can. If the box is too big, take it directly to the dump or recycling yard. Big boxes sitting next to your trash cans act like a billboard to thieves looking for their next score. Keep candles away from flammable objects such as decorations, Christmas trees, draperies, wreaths and wrapping paper. Also, make sure to extinguish them before you leave your house or go to bed.
