4 AGIS/eALP Project Experience Valley International Airport FAA Pilot A-GIS/eALP Bryan Wren, Assistant Director of Aviation, Valley International Airport: Valley International Airport is farther along in the FAA s A-GIS pilot program than any other airport, and I credit that to the great communication and coordination efforts from AECOM with the FAA and Valley International Airport. The knowledge of AECOM s GIS team has proven to be very valuable in the success of our A-GIS implementation. G. Thomas Wade, Federal Aviation Administration (former), Southwest Region: The Valley International ealp Pilot Project has an excellent team... They have progressed the furthest of any of the pilot program projects and we expect them to be the first team to submit their Airports GIS data for verification and acceptance. The team has been excellent to work with on the project.

A GIS Combines Spatial Information (Lease Boundaries, Aerial Photographs, Utilities, etc) Data (Pipe Material, Tenant Name, etc) Metadata (How recent is the data, How accurate is it, etc) Into a Single, Accessible Location CADD is geometry with applied styles, while GIS is geometry with associated data.

31 Data Maintenance Definition After AGIS data submitted/accepted Airport is responsible for keeping data current AGIS should reflect the current conditions on the airfield and for the project area ft. runway extension for Runway 3/21 at SAT will have to be updated.

32 Data Maintenance Issues to consider Who does the data maintenance? Specialized skills needed: Survey, CAD, GIS Limited resource capacity for new work? Job redesign? How often should data be updated? Whenever a change to actual conditions When a new data source is obtained or field observation has determined existing data inaccuracies When should updated data be submitted to AGIS Varies by project type Table 2.1 is a good source
