5 How to get to the venue by public transport: By Metro: Piata Universitatii Station (University Square Station). This station is on the main metro route that links the North and South parts of the city. 6 2. Travel from the airport to the city centre All flights arrive to HENRI COANDA (Otopeni) Airport The airport is 17 km from the city centre. The Bucharest centre where the meeting venue and all the recommended hotels are located can be easily reached by public transport or by taxi. By Public Transport The bus route no 783 links the Henri Coanda Airport with Piata Universitatii (the city centre and the meeting venue). The bus stop is downstairs, in front of Arrivals Entrance - from the International Arrivals, take the stairs, and follow the signs to get to Arrivals and then exit. Alternatively, follow the yellow Bus signs. There is a kiosk/vending machine where you can buy the bus tickets; the price is 7-8 RON (approx. 2 EUR). Please note that the driver cannot sell tickets. For the venue and the hotels recommended (see below) please get off at Piata Universitatii stop (University Square stop). By TAXI On-demand taxi services are available at Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport. You may order a taxi by using the touch screen devices in the public area of the Arrivals Terminal. The Taxi parking is right outside the terminal, on the first floor and you must show the ticket issued by the touch screen device to the driver. The ticket offers you information about the taxi company that operates your taxi car and the registration number in the company, visible on the side of the car. The charges vary between 1.39 and 3.50 RON/km (approx EUR/km). The recommended price for a taxi journey between the airport and the city centre is around RON (15 18 EUR). 3. Transportation in Bucharest The main two public transport operators in Bucharest are: RATB the surface public transport, that operates buses, trams, trolleybuses and light rail, and Metro Bucharest the underground public transport system The ticketing system is integrated for the public transport in Bucharest and you can use the same card for both systems. The ticketing system uses contact-less smart-cards, called '''Activ''' cards The cost for 2 trips card is 5 RON, 1 day pass for one person - 8 RON= 1.8 Euro, 10 trips - 20 RON, weekly pass for one person - 25 RON and 62 trips card, valid one month - 70 RON. 7 Once bought (you will need ID to do that) the cards can be loaded with various ticketing options, including some that allow usage on both the subway and surface networks. To validate the card after entering a vehicle (or subway station) hold it in front of the validating device (an orange box with a small LCD screen) until you hear a short beep (The LCD display will show "Calatorie Placuta" = Have a nice trip). If you hear a long beep followed by the message "Repetati validarea la acelasi validator" = "Repeat the validation on the same machine" or any other message, please validate the card again. For this reason, is better to buy a daily (8 RON = 1.8 Euro) or weekly pass (17 RON = 4 Euro) for your trips in Bucharest, because the pass will not require any validation. The prices are very small compared with the travel options available (busses, night busses, trams and trolleys), so the pass will help you to have a trip without any headaches. 4. Local Currency The local currency is LEU (or LEI as plural), but you can also find it as RON (ROmanian New leu). The exchange rate at the date is 1 Leu (RON) is roughly 4.41 EUR. We recommend you to use the ATMs inside the banks. In the Henri Coanda Airport you can find few ATMs in the International Arrivals Hall; there are also two major Banks offices located in the airport, where you could exchange your currencies. 5.
