GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE HAGUE The Hague is the second largest city in the Netherlands. The atmosphere is friendly and animated. The Hague offers visitors a combination of beach pleasure and modern city life in a historical setting. It is the second UN city in the world and the international city of peace and justice, a place where leaders meet every day to tackle global challenges regarding peace and justice and other major topics such as security, energy, ICT & Telecom. Distances can be covered easily: the city has an extensive public transport network and the beach is 15 minutes away by tram from the city center. As a result of its rich history, current seat of the Dutch government and international character, the city has an allure of grandeur. 4 GETTING TO THE HAGUE By Air International travelers are advised to fly to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) ( From there one can go to the hotel by taxi (see also By Taxi) or by train (see also By Rail). By Taxi A taxi from Schiphol airport to Bel Air hotel costs approximately Eur 90,=. The service charge is included in the price, but the taxi driver will usually expect a tip of approximately 10%.For a taxi please follow the taxi signs at the airport. By Rail The train journey from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to The Hague Central Station takes minutes and ticket prices range from EUR 8,20 (2nd class) to EUR 13,90 (1st class). The train station is situated below the airport. For more information please go to NOTE: train tickets cannot be purchased on board the train but must be bought at the airport at a ticket counter or ticket machine. From The Hague Central Station one can take a taxi to the hotel. A taxi from The Hague Central Station to the hotel costs approximately EUR 10,=. Parking Bel Air Hotel offers parking facilities. The current self-parking rate is Eur 17,50 per vehicle, per night. The parking rates that are in effect during the dates of the meeting may be higher or less. WEATHER Daytime temperatures in September are between 13 and 17 degrees Celsius on average while nights are cool with temperatures averaging between 7 and 11 degrees Celsius. While September can be fairly sunny in the Netherlands, rain and wind should be expected. GRATUITIES It is customary to leave a tip of approximately 10% in restaurants and taxi's. ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES Voltage is 220 volts. CURRENCY The currency is Euro. All major credit cards are accepted in hotels, the majority of shops and restaurants. Cash machines are available at the airport and throughout the city. Foreign bank notes in the major currencies can be changed at the airport, the hotel and at local banks. You can check the current exchange rates at BUSINESS HOURS Banks in The Hague operate different opening times. Most banks open Tuesday to Friday from 9.00 till hrs. and Mondays from till hrs. All banks are closed on Saturdays and Sundays. On these days, one can visit the GWK with branches at all train stations. SHOPPING In The Hague city centre most shops open weekdays from 9.30 till hrs and Saturdays from 9.00 till hrs.
