5 Modern hostel (refurbished in 2013) beautifully situated between the Hohe Mark Nature Park, the "Westruper Heide" heathland and Haltern's reservoir. All rooms ensuite. Huge outdoor area and indoor games room.

6 Dienstag 5 ten Juni Morning (8.00 start!) at Liebfrauenschule to meet penfriends and spend morning at school. Afternoon in Freibad, Haltern-am-See. Evening: Outdoor sports, relax & journal writing.

7 Community Primary School A beautiful picturesque town in an area of natural outstanding beauty located close to the lakes within the boundaries of the magnificent "Hohemark" nature park.

14 OUT AND ABOUT You must never go anywhere by yourself. The group will be divided into 5 small groups and if you are allowed to explore independently you need to be in a minimum of a group of 3 and always report back to your adult at the correct time. You need to be ALERT and AWARE when crossing the roads in Germany. Remember traffic drives on the RIGHT, so when you cross a road, look LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT. Even if there is an adult in front of you, YOU NEED TO CHECK YOURSELF. Drivers in Germany do not automatically stop at zebra crossings so you must wait for the traffic to stop before you cross the road.

15 YOUR BEHAVIOUR We shall expect, and insist on, a high standard of behaviour at all times. We are representing our school and our country, so you need to behave well wherever we are. ON THE COACH We shall be spending many hours on the coach. Everyone must stay seated and wear their seatbelt. There will be no shouting, no chewing gum and no litter. Feet are not to be put on seats. If you get travelsick, sit at the FRONT. IN THE HOSTEL Hostel staff must be treated politely at all times. Rooms must be kept tidy and their furnishings treated with care. You do not run around or shout, and do not go into each other s rooms. We will be doing ROOM INSPECTIONS. IF YOU CANNOT BEHAVE, YOUR POCKET MONEY WILL BE WITHHELD, YOU WILL HAVE TO STAY WITH TEACHERS DURING ACTIVITIES/ON COACHES & YOU RISK LOSING DISCO TIME. YOU MUST NOT BRING ANY EXTRA MONEY WITH YOU.

16 MEALTIMES We may be sharing the hostel restaurant with other people, so you need to be considerate when walking around and talk quietly to the people on your table. Try new foods, but please only take what you can eat: you can always go back for more. Be polite to the restaurant staff Bitte schön and Danke schön. Tidy up after yourself & sit back down when you have finished.

17 TOILETS There are not so many public conveniences in Germany as in England. If you can t find one, the law states that you may use one in a café, but ask first. (DIE TOILETTEN, BITTE SCHÖN). When you do find a public loo, you may find that men and women use the same entrance, then turn different ways. Often there is an attendant and you will have to pay a small amount.

18 Shopping in a foreign country is always fun, as there are things on sale which you can t find at home. DO be polite; call people HERR, FRAU, FRÄULEIN and say BITTE SCHÖN, DANKE SCHÖN, GUTEN TAG and AUF WIEDERSEHEN when appropriate. DO check your change BEFORE you leave any shop and KEEP all receipts. DO buy genuine German items, particularly local specialties. DO look after your money carefully. Keep it in a NAMED purse or wallet, in your bag. If you loose it we cannot replace it. DON T descend on a little stall/shop in a big group. Stand by/go in a few at a time. DON T lapse into English if the assistant does. Keep on using German as much as you can. DON T handle lots of things you have no intention of buying. DON T buy things that you know your parents or teachers would disapprove of. These things will be confiscated. YOU MUST NOT BUY cigarettes, fireworks, knives or any other weapons, live animals or any alcoholic drink, not even to bring home as a present.

19 Remember to collect tickets, receipts, bags, leaflets, postcards etc. to use later for your journal when we return. Take photos of the places you visit and people you meet (ask permission first) VIEL SPAß & MACH S GUT!
