1 The Local Cancer Community Update of Submitted by: Tim E. Renzelmann March 10, 2016 Stories of the Local Cancer Community TLC Survivorship Can Be Fun: A One-Night Wood Carving Workshop with the Kettle Karver s Klub! As they say a picture is worth a thousand words so here are a few thousand words describing the most recent TLC Survivorship Can Be Fun night that featured a one-night wood carving workshop with the Kettle Karvers Klub! Van Horn Automotive Presents $1,000 Check To SCCCF! Above: Many first-time carvers at work. Left & Below: A herd of hedgehogs and a cute pair of hedgehogs! Visit our Facebook page for more. At the recent Sheboygan County Chamber Gala, Gregg Voigt representing Curt G. Joa, Inc. was the winner of a $1,000 donation provided by Van Horn Automotive to the charity of his choice. We like to give community members an opportunity to choose a charity to support. Gregg knew immediately that he wanted the donation to go to the Sheboygan County Cancer Care Fund! explained Teresa Van Horn of Van Horn Automotive. Many of you may recognize Gregg who has volunteered his time and expertise at recent SCCCF Survive, Thrive & Be Fit activities including Up/Down the River WITH a Paddle canoe/kayak excursions and Hiking Along the Cancer Journey backpack adventures. Special thanks to Van Horn Automotive for providing the donation, to Gregg Voigt for choosing SCCCF, and to the Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce Gala Event! Watch for the next TLC Survivorship Can Be Fun Session and know that the Kettle Karvers are already discussing ideas for next year s wood carving project! 2 SCCCF Survive, Thrive & Be Fit Survivor-Athletes Will Row Across Lake Michigan This Saturday! At the start of 2016 I don't think any us thought that we would be preparing to ROW ACROSS LAKE MICHIGAN! But on Saturday, March 12th eighteen survivor-athletes will be attempting the equivalent of just that! Starting shortly after 7AM in the Sheboygan YMCA Lakeview Center SCCCF's ST&BF "Row Team" along with Sheboygan YMCA LIVESTRONG participants will be taking turns on Concept2 ergometers (rowing machines) with the goal of accumulating 100 kilometers (the approximate distance between the Sheboygan Lighthouse and the Ludington (MI) Lighthouse! For many of the rowers (Including me), this is our first rowing experience! I have been inspired by the sights, the sounds, and the feelings of energy that this enthusiastic group of survivor-athletes has displayed!
