JETTY AND FORESHORE REDEVELOPMENT

2036 WILL MARK OUR STATE S BICENTENARY By the time our State turns 200 years old, I want South Australia to be a place of prosperity. Planning and delivering on my vision for a better future starts now. This policy is just part of our plan to deliver a clear and responsible pathway to recovery and success. See where it fits in below: 1.0 GROWING OUR ECONOMY 1.5 Investing in productive infrastructure that drives expansion of existing industries and unlocks new opportunities in the industries of the future 2.0 THE BEST EDUCATION SYSTEM IN AUSTRALIA 3.0 BEING A HEALTHY STATE 4.0 STRENGTHENING COMMUNITIES 5.0 BUILDING OUR STATE 5.1 Taking a strategic focus on the future to plan for and deliver on the needs of South Australia in an efficient and sustainable away 5.2 Prioritising the productive infrastructure that our State needs 5.3 Working in partnerships to grow jobs and deliver real outcomes for South Australians 6.0 ENSURING SAFETY AND JUSTICE 7.0 PROTECTING OUR ENVIRONMENT 8.0 EMBRACING OUR UNIQUE CULTURE 9.0 RUNNING AN EFFICIENT AND STABLE GOVERNMENT

WE NEED TO ENSURE THAT OUR GLENELG BEACH PRECINCT IS A WORLD CLASS TOURIST ATTRACTION AND A FANTASTIC PLACE TO LIVE AND DO BUSINESS.

OUR PREMIERE TOURISM PRECINCT We are lucky enough to have some of the world s most beautiful coastal locations here in South Australia, with some of the best beaches located centrally in metropolitan Adelaide. These beaches provide endless opportunity for recreation and relaxation, but also support a significant amount of economic activity as tourism and hospitality attractions. The Glenelg tourism precinct - comprising the Jetty, Mosely Square, the tram connecting the Bay with the CBD, as well as dozens of hospitality and retail outlets - is one of the jewels in the state s tourism crown. Visitors travelling from intrastate, interstate and internationally look to Glenelg as a unique tourism experience in metropolitan Adelaide. Although Glenelg remains one of the most recognisable metropolitan beaches, the precinct has struggled to reach its full potential as a tourism and cultural asset in recent years, with the key infrastructure underpinning many of the attractions in dire need of redevelopment. The current precinct is tired, out-dated, and in need of a significant redevelopment. South Australia needs to put it s best foot forward when it comes to our growing tourism market; we need to ensure that our prime tourist destinations are able to compete with our interstate rivals. A centrally located beach precinct so close to the CBD is unique, and we need it to be world class. Glenelg is one of the most popular tourism destinations in South Australia, but it is in urgent need of an upgrade The failure to reinvest in the infrastructure which makes Glenelg such a popular attraction is limiting opportunities for new and existing businesses to expand, and will begin to diminish the experiences had by visitors and locals. The businesses and traders who make up the Glenelg precinct have been calling on Government to take action, to ensure that they are able to remain competitive, profitable and to keep employing South Australians. If we are to make the most of this world-class location, we need rejuvenate the precinct by investing in the infrastructure that brings it all together. Glenelg needs a cohesive plan to ensure that visitors are encouraged to visit all areas within in the precinct. Rather than having siloed areas, we want all of the foreshore, Jetty Road and the iconic jetty to work in tandem and provide the best visitor experience possible.

REINVIGORATING GLENELG The State Liberals Plan If elected in 2018 a Marshall Liberal Government will invest $20 million towards the redevelopment of the Glenelg Jetty to reinvigorate the precinct. This will enable a range of new tourism and retail offerings, while also strengthening those businesses already operating in the area. Preliminary designs for the project include a major expansion and refit of the existing Glenelg jetty to support a range of commercial developments, including a hotel, restaurants and recreational facilities. By investing in this important piece of tourism infrastructure, we will unlock the potential to attract hundreds of millions of dollars of private investment. This will in turn create hundreds of jobs for South Australians during the construction phase, as well as long-term tourism, hospitality and retail positions. Our commitment is contingent on a detailed cost-benefit being undertaken, and contributions being made by the local and federal Government, as well as the private developers. This ensures South Australian taxpayers will be getting value-for-money for this investment-and jobs for the state. Importantly, the jetty and facilities will remain accessible to all South Australians and tourists. This development will add another function to the jetty; one that will create jobs and enhance the experience for all users. We will work in partnership with local and federal governments and the private sector to realise the vision currently being developed by stakeholders. This will unlock a wave of investment by new and existing businesses to create new jobs, new opportunities and greater choice for locals and visitors alike. This plan will breathe life into Glenelg.

A reinvigorated Glenelg precinct will be the jewel in the crown of South Australian tourism. Steven Marshall- State Liberal Leader
